Would be nice to have a Wide Angle Rear View Camera show up somewhere on the HUD, switch to it as primary (I.E. Full Screen) with a Hotkey Hold.

Maybe as part of the "360 Target Retention" Module to make it more interesting/optional.

There is a very good reason why RL tanks don't come equipped with rear view mirrors...

Cry Engine 3 simply can't do it.

Talk those Germans into making that thing possible in the next installment.
I'm sure they'll scrap everything and just do it for you. ;)

That actually would be pretty cool, and give those little screens in the cockpit something to do.
Hotkey to make that little screen the primary view would be awesome.

Although, the resources required for all this would probably cripple a lot of the computers running this game. As it is now I have to assume that most people here are just making the cut. This is based on the fact that none of my lame-*** friends can even run MWO with their current rigs.

Yeah, that's one reason why it'd be ideal as an optional add-in, like the module, in case it does overwhelm some systems. However, Rear-view tech has been something that's been in racing games for ages, and doesn't seem to have a drastic impact... but those have engines specifically designed to handle it.

They do have that zoom thing though, and that's modifying view. However, that's modifying what already rendered by the engine. I dunno, if the devs are going to be stopped by "that's not capable by the engine right now" at any fun or interesting ideas, this is going to be one very limited game.

+1

This back view would be very helpful to see who firing at you and finding way to hide by moving backwards.

If you think some typ of weapon does a 'knock-knock' at you and you don't see any bad guy on your radar or in your field of view, it could be the right time to turn around...

Please don't ask always for an easy mode instead of learn to play... B)

Aaaand don't think i would bother anyone of you! Really its just my point of you. :P

Well, miwei, saying learn2play isn't exactly just sharing a point of view. Also, I don't see it as an easy mode but as a tool to advance gameplay.

While yes, I COULD turn around, but this would allow you to do more at once if you can process the information. I mean, your opponents Paper Doll is on display when you target someone so you know what's crit and if it's better to go for the legs, CT or take out some arm weapons. Still, some people don't even target their opponents, others don't use that information. Just because it's there doesn't make it easy mode. It allows people who know how to use it to be quite effective with the information.

Also, simply turning around isn't always possible. With my Raven, I've been able to keep out of view on quite a few opponents.

They don't have flat screens in 3050? Personally I'd prefer not to have just a pane of glass keeping LRM fire out of my cockpit.

No. Our 2012 top of the line, next gen engine can't handle multiple viewports.

kinda silly when you think that all those crappy german "simulators" have such a feature and run on what seems like a coal engine in comparison.

even though since mechwarrior 2 there have been cameras on all mechs or a third person option. I don't recall a decade ago people saying MW4 was 'easy-mode' because it had rear/down cameras on hotkeys....

Rear facing cameras wouldn't break the game, but the engine doesn't support picture in picture at this point. If it ever does, I think this idea has some merit.

Let's not forget that along with a rear view, it should have the "beep...beep...beep" sound of a truck backing up as well

It would also be nice to have a rear camera to see your allies without turning around. Sure, you get the arrows on your minimap, but it would be nice to spot which mechs are backing you up when you're out in front.

If it's specifically picture in picture that the game engine can't support, I think a hotkey that fills your screen with the image should work just fine. I wouldn't want it as a module though. It's simple enough tech that it should just come standard for all mechs. But there should be an option to deactivate it in the options menu if one so desires.
