Yes - with current game play speed is important and the stock 64kph speeds of the Hunchback are not great.

EDIT:

Here are my modern takes on what I would run for the 4G:

2 AC5 3 ML
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e762c2f702a5585

1 GAUSS 3 ML
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a7580ea3633b3f8

I ran the 2 AC5 3ML variant. Loved it! Just fast enough to get up those stupid hills and to escape. And a great punch at a distance and in close. Causes some good havoc and when paired up with other teammates even more damage is had.

sell the 4g and buy a 4h then run 5med lasers and a gauss with an xl260 and have fun doing 90kph and dealing the damage of a heavy mech.

Plan on it as soon as I get the XP. And yea, show that build.

Oh my... it's been a while since I took my Founder-G out for a drive but today had a few rounds. This mech is just so unbelievably fun to pilot and for some weird reason very effective as well. Might actually be my favourite mech ever in this game.

Exact build I have on my G, and it works well on the H, too.

It's really rather stupid-good if played right. You pack staggering up-front firepower and move at about 81kph before speed tweak, 89 after. Assault mechs will blunder about trying to hit you while you open them up like a cheap tin can. The only weakness is don't waste your AC20 shots, but that's about it.

It's a build I highly recommend for anyone who wants a mix of real speed and firepower.

Yes I sometimes play it with a 4th ammo ton. Strip some armor off somewhere to get it done. But usually that 3 tons is enough.

Hmm can't understand how to get this build done. I simply do not have enough tonnage. What am I missing?

Took your build and made a minor improvement to it. Check the armor. You might never lose your hunch now.

Note this:

Everyone aims high on your hunch, and the entire "hunch" counts as front torso, even from the back. Beef the armor as high as possible to RFT to make it last.

----------------------
A new player chose a Hunchback 4G for his first mech after spending some time with me (was actually trying to get him into a Centurion or a Hunchback 4SP).

It's why we try to find out what they like doing before giving a recommendation on their first mech. For example while the general mech to recommend that fits virtually any kind of player is the Hunchback 4SP (you can't make a failing build with it unless you genuinely tried), [New Player] told me he really likes cannons and isn't much of a laser person. We juggled through the various mechs, and he chose the Hunch 4G. Walked him through one of the two 4G builds I use (the easier one since he wouldn't have the money for the XL required in the other one yet) and now he's got one.

Also gave him my armor allocation tip about the right front torso. It's helped me survive with an XL engine in the 4G, so with his standard engine it'll help him keep his hunch longer.

Sorry everyone I read through most of the replies and they have been very very helpful. I went with the 4G Hunchback that Koniving built me. This mech is incredible! I learned quite a bit from Koniving and enjoyed running with him. I also played some PUG matches on my own with my new hunchie. A few of my matches I ranged from 1-3 kills, 1-6 assists, 40-90 match points, and anywhere from 140-600 damage a match.

In a few of my matches I didn't even have a single death. I've come a long way and all of your advice and tips especially Koniving's has improved my game quite a bit. I know I still have a far way to go but man am I glad to have posted this thread. I have to say though the Mech he built me.. can't say enough good things about it. Even a noob like me can use it well and it hits hard. :D Also in all 6 of my matches I only lost my hump once and that was when I was being blasted by three assaults.

Wow. Never realized this. Actually it seems that my smurfy build was a bit wrong, in truth I have 40/8 allocation in both side torsi on all my Hunchies instead of that 38/10. But after this tip will surely set right torso to 48/0 and leave left torso to 40/8. I just checked and even 4SP has the same thing of the entire right shoulder being frontal armor even though the hunch in 4SP is pretty small.

HBK-4G(F) AC20 (3 Tons ammo), 3 Medium Lasers, Standard 250, Endo, Ferro....anything else isn't as good. This is the only load out for this chassis with the current selection of weapons.

Keep something for the back. I do 46/2. I rarely lose the back armor but sometimes it goes red. Shorter mechs are prone to hit lower than taller ones and it's almost always the shorter ones that get behind you when you least expect it.

Also I typically run an XL in my Huncback 4G. :D So when I lost my hunch recently I stopped as if I had died.

3 AC/2s, 3 small lasers, XL engine. If it does not timeskip, then go to 8:18 into the vid.
Spoiler

Minor note: 1 AC/20 = 5 DPS. 1 AC/2 = 4 DPS. 3 AC/2s = 12 DPS. :D

The problem is that you have to stay on target to land all that, with my build you stick and move! This keeps you from being in the line of fire all the time while trying to land your AC/2's. I prefer Burst fire as opposed to sustained fire. Also XL in a hunchback is instant death if I see you on the field, I go for the Hunch first to eliminate your main weapon and one arm, then go for the kill, but if you're running an XL you're already dead.

What about removing the 3 Medium Lazers and instead going for two machine guns in the hunch and two small lazers? You can also squeeze in 1 ton of Machine Gun ammo. I'm still new so bare with me Koniving helped me build my first mech which is a hunchback 4G. Last night I toyed with the idea of making it faster and that's the setup I'm currently running. I found that the machine gun is great in ripping through armor with the lazer support. I haven't done enough runs to see just how efficient it is but I think I'm doing better than my previous setup with the speed boost. Might be worth it to check out.

I don't like to mix that many weapons on a build if at all possible. The MG's are really only useful for destroying internals and again you have to keep them on a target which keeps you open to hits as well, again with my build you fire and torso twist to spread damage and protect that shoulder and arm. Another upside to my build is the ability to fire and cover till the weapons cycle or you emerge from cover on the other side to fire again.I'm not a fan of the small lasers due to the short range and damage, with the 3 meds you have 540 max range and they cycle slightly faster then the AC20. Also the optimal range to the AC20 and meds is matched at 270 so anything inside that gets full damage. If they manage to strip everything but the med in your head you can still put out damage and I've had many matches where I got the last kill with that single med. I've been running this build for a long time, and I've shared it with many of the guys I drop with who have never changed from it once they get use to it and how to use it effectively. I've even built my 1X as a bigger badder version of it and regularly do better then 600 damage and multiple kills with it.
