When the general tone of each faction is known, even without knowing the in game benefits, is it surprising that people will choose the sides that they have favored in the past, or that they agree with the aesthetics or philosophy of?

I agree. I think anyone who's read a BT book should know exactly what aligning themselves to a faction represents.

Mercs, mercs, mercs, the boys are marching!

I have always been one for trailing pike, and getting on with a strong Company.

Gonna Merc it up with my Lancemates from MWL. I know for a fact that we will take planets and will be a force to be reckoned with.

We still won't know what is "faction" means in the game. Only cosmetics (nice logos, discount on some mech's price, etc.), or it's actually means something, so the players who follow a house are played in one side all the time, etc...

Without these knowledge, i cannot be sure i'm wan't to be play as one of the Great Houses (plus FRR) mechwarrior. I rather play a mercenary...

That would be the fun of being a mercenary, fight along side and against whoever you like.

actually, the information to which you seek is out there. forget where, but its there. it lists the benefits of actually fighting for a specific house over mercing or lone wolfing.

I for one don't care about those things. I've always favored the Dragon, so fighting for the Dragon it will be.

I haven't decided yet. I'm leaning towards Rashalhague but until there's more information available about the boni and possible penalties I'm not choosing anything.

So I want to get an idea of the expected population distribution of the game by measuring the population distribution of people repeatedly clicking refresh in MWO general.

This won't be completely accurate but we can still get a vague kinda jist of how things are going to go.

Added House Marik to the list...

And Rasalhague, but we all know what happens to them...

Yes we start by beheading the snakes quickly before the tin-can wannabes show up. After that we invest heavily in can-openers and drive them back to Stana Metchy!

Last one to Strana Metchy buys the mead!

They were indeed, and it turns out the SIC doesn't put up much of a fight.

Mercenary all the way. I don't have any specific preference for the house as well as they pay. That said, I'll shy away from houses where I repeatedly run into people I'd rather shoot than work with. I swear I remember the DC being a bit poor towards mercs as well, wonder if that'll show up.

Steiner, but only because they don't allow Periphery Bandits or the Magistracy of Canopus.

Merc's have been romanticized a lot, but I personally dislike the idea of killing for money. Defending my homeland I can get behind. Killing for survival, yeah ok, survival of the fittest. Just for capitalist reasons? No. Can't get behind that.

I think the lonewolf number will change once people get sick of getting owned in PUGS over and over.
