Show me a stock mech that would still suck after swapping out 2 hardpoints, upgrading to DHS, and possibly endosteel and an XL engine.

That would make them ...not stock.

Right. While I am one of those who wouldn't mind everyone playing nothing but stock, I know it's a minority position, so I've advocated something in between stock and full customization. (If you read the thread, you can see what that is).

Idk. Would be a nice addition but i suspect it would end up people playing 1-2 variants that do not suck THAT BAD allthetime.

Oh your talking about the terrible idea of a chassis primary weapon being fixed.

Stock-only matches would be nice.

I mean, balance-wise, they would be really easy to be balanced out, since the IS mechs weren't made for boating and couldn't run at insane speeds.

Yes, there would be some more prevalent chassis, but definitely morevaried than now.

Play with the trial mechs already. They're there for you.

I'd like to see a stock mech option. I don't see THAT many mechs like srmcats running around to make me think 'OMG THE GAMES BROKEN, DEVS SUCK!' like some do but it's always nice to have more options for varied matches and gameplay. Comments like 'play trial mechs then' sound just as much like tears as 'the games broke cos he's got only lasers'.

The mech manglers don't have to play with the stock warriors and vice versa if there's a game mode for it and no ones limited by this.

Stock-Only is a game mode I´d play. The concept of modification is fun, yet totally un-canon in the way mechs are modified to fit the current playstyle. And yes: modified mechs are better... in the concept of a 8v8 mech-only skirmish. But mechs aren´t designed for this in the canon, and this is why they aren´t equipped like they are by players.
Most of the original mechs feature a balanced set of weapons for mixed ranges, with a low DPS and interesting strategies. There is a reason why many mechs are carrying a small set of LRMs, why they use lasers of different qualities and why mediums are useful in the TT.

At this moment, I wouldn´t know what stock mech would be the best of its class.

Stock-only, Vassago.

If you ever played MPBT:3025 you'd know what I'm talking about.

Vassago is a childish troll. there is only one way to communicate in a thread with him. And this way is to ignore all his posts and keep on the topic.

Never heard of that game. Did it fail because it didn't let you build your own robots?

It didn't even get past Beta, oddly familiar.

No, it failed because Microsoft asked a great deal from EA for the MW license. Microsoft being the greedy ******** they are asked for a highly exaggarated amount and EA showed them middle finger.

As far as success goes, the game was more successful than any MW to date and there were no whiners, nor cheese or horrible imbalances.

If the heat system was working right, a stock mech game mode would be fun. I believe it would have been good for weapon balance and the playability of stock mechs if the game hadn't had its mech lab since the early days of Closed Beta. Not being able to optimzie your mechs for the increased heat loads in this game would probably have forced the devs to refine their design of the weapons and their heat system instead.

As it is, I don't think a stock mech mode would be fun for many players. ANd I believe that is even true for (some) of the players that want such a mode.

Yeah, it would require a separate rebalance of the game, which would be quite a resourse intensive process. That's the biggest problem withc such a mode, imho.

How many stock variants are really worth playing? With the limited ammuntion the stock 'Mechs have I guess we would mostly see energy-heavy or energy-only 'Mechs running around all the time.

I don´t know... every stock mech is a class of its own. The Hunchback, for example:
one heavy hitting ballistic
one energy weapon bank
one medium ballistic
one SRM
one with LRM

So, this one chassis has 4 completely different variants. and none of its variants is bad. Just completely outgunned by the way the mechs are modiefied at the moment.

They will do everything in their power not to force people into a situation they don't want to be in.

You can already do this by finding another group of 8 people who want to play against your 8 all in trials and sync drop against each other.

It's ghetto, but it works.
