At least in the initial stages of the clan invasion I would personally enjoy seeing a system similar to the Black Ops units from Planetside. Have the devs select active, skilled players and give them a Clan pilot mostly leveled up and access to clan mechs. If there's matchmaking, remove their ability to queue as a group and limit community options like friend lists. Put a hard limit on how many clan pilots can deploy in a match and disable C-bill and XP rewards.

In short, they should exist only in an adversarial role and not as a primary character to play.

It's a chance for active players to log some hours in shiny clan tech and provide a serious challenge to IS forces (which canonically got their rears kicked unless they were veteran units, and even then it was a crapshoot) without encouraging them to permanently play clan and never go back.
