You just need to be strategic about how you run up on people. It is definitely a gank mech.

The SL 4P is one stuck in the closed beta mindset when you could mount a 300XL on a Hunchback and SL's were the only lasers you could fire without encountering massive heat issues.
ML 4Ps can mount massive engines and large batteries of lasers when optimized correctly. Here's mine:

The 4G can mount 2 UAC5's... someone in my unit did it, however they did mention that was all they could fit on so it does leave you probably short ammo, and run the large risk of all your eggs in one basket located in the right torso ballistic barrel.
My personal rides went 4SP (SRM or LRM builds as wanted), 4P (2 LL with 3 ML or 7 SL), then the 4H (5ML with an LBX10). Those were the builds I found most effective for my playstyle of fast flanking and scare tactics.

You can do it though it requires some concessions. It's not worth it by my experience. Here's an example:
2 UAC5 2 ML STD200

Looses a fair amount of speed and the third medium laser. You may be able to play around with it but the requirement of running a standard engine to have enough room for the dual UAC5's limits you. The YLW is a better mech if you want dual UAC5's as the guns are in the arm freeing up torso room.

Oh, that's terrible. I'll give the AC/20 build a go and see how that fares for me.

Haha well it's not terrible The DPS is quite high. The problem is that UAC5's demand a lot of ammo and you can't put two in a side torso with an XL engine. Of course you almost never want to run an XL engine on a Hunchback anyway
In the end I prefer a simple 2 AC5 3 ML build. Fast, reliable, and deals healthy damage.

4G with AC20/Medium lasers - Firepower ~ 35
4P with 8 Med lasers - Firepower ~ 40 (81kph mech)
4SP with 2 srm 6 and 4 med lasers - Firepower ~ 50.
If your looking to deal damage then the 4G and 4H arent exactly tops. The fire speed of the AC20 in the 4G feels sluggish and with lag is pretty bad - plus the hit box is the largest of all the builds.. ..it makes a difference i can tell you that.
4G would be good with AC2/5's for that dakka dakka freak out the enemy mech kind of play, but if your doing that might as well go for a phract really...
Edit: In a nutshell i dont really like either, but will play with my founders 4G so i can get my 4P, 4SP up to master...

This is probably the biggest legitimate issue with the Hunchback - in many regards it is interchangeable for a Cataphract and for some people the greater armor will be worth losing some mobility.

4H with an AC/20 and 5 SLAS.
4P with 2LLAS and 7SLAS.
4SP with 5MLAS and 2 SRM6.
My favorite is the 4SP. My damage is consistent with it. It also requires only minor tweaks from the stock setting so is cheap to set up. The 4H with the AC/20 is a blast, but ballistics take some getting used to. It can be my highest damage mech, though. I just redid my 4P tonight, and I like it so far. I was able to hide and seek with a Stalker and put a good hurt on him before he was swarmed. Just remember you are and escort and a flanker. Try to avoid toe to toe battles as much as possible.

AC20's are probably my weapon of choice in general TBH, and to run an AC20 in the 4H, I feel that you can't use the energy slots to their best potential.
I had a lot of fun running a 4H with an ER PPC and a LLAS in the Torso with no ballistics, but felt that was defeating the object that and they are a little low, which makes trying to fire over things a pain.
Currently trying an AC10 and 5 MLAS once I've finished levelling my 'Phracts.

Rt-Gauss rifle 2xML
Arms-2xML
Head-ML
Standard 200 engine
Endosteel
Double heatsinks
A little slow but packs a mean punch.
