In terms of design every mech that looks too human, especially if it even carries weapons in the hands.

In terms of gameplay anything that uses the LBX/2, the single most useless weapon in BT.
(Yes I know that some people use them to snipe at slow close range tanks and hope for criticals that kill/disable them despite doing 1 damage, but its still a useless piece of equipment for me)

Urbanmech. Respect for the UAC 10, but g-d is it an ugly trashcan on two legs.

Remember your own words once one of them blows you up. ;)

It seemed like an effective fighter though. Its strange profile made it harder to hit than hell itself. Plus it was fast. Really. Really. Fast.

its hard to hate on a mech because of the different variants and the use of a mechlab can fix it. looks wise i dislike the different clan mechs that have the box look to them. hopefully if/when MWO bring them in they can fix those issues.

The Yeoman and the Hatamoto-Chi are two of the goofiest looking mechs ever.

And now show me a Cougar doing something awesome...

Like I said, simply hating a mech isn't a good idea. 99% of them have a real use. ;)

Was never a fan of any mech with hands - I really just don't understand why they need them, and it makes little sense. Also goes for mechs with melee weapons - completely impractical in reality (and yes I understand the irony of complaining about realistic practicality when dealing with 100ft tall walking tanks).

A few of the mechs that are in MWO's lineup I didn't like the look of until I saw the MWO versions - I can't wait to see 'em do more!

They use them to manipulate things as shown here:

Or (the real reason) to carry the salvage. I know you can take a team of people, but when you're fighting in a hostile territory, you need every single piece of scrap you can take and without support, only the battlemech itself must take that piece of armor from enemy mech that you need to fiy yours. ;)

The Dasher/Firemoth always looked ridiculous to me. But I did build one in Mechwarrior 2 that was armed with 20 machine guns and had jump jets. I'd jet in at high speed and use the MGs from close range to shoot the arms and legs of the Daishis. It was silly, and certainly didn't work against multiple opponents, but it was fun.

This is a very interesting topic mostly because i think the question intends to find out the basics of which mech chassis do u hate and why. I think most of the results are based upon the mechs as they have been known in pc games relating directly to the game designers graphical liberties from incarnation to the next one. The artwork in old technical readout manuals is very nice hand sketches, while only describing the mechs in a handful of stock or specific group customization. I don't think you will get a very realistic anwser unless u can get the context. EXAMPLE: i dislike the annihaltor's visual appearance in the mw4 mercs mektek mod. OR i never managed to do diddly in a jenner in the first mechwarrior game. (Once the limited LRMs were gone) The mechwarrior world battlefield is intended to be very versatile and ultimately, fully realized, it would bring great shame to any modern version of warfare like battlefield. The mw battlefield would be filled with tanks planes choopers turrets hovercars tanks a full evironment from urban to rural world to moon to asteroids. All mechs iz bootyful. Most annoying MW4 both versions feature in game... the bobbing mechs in flight in the first person view. Now I am not an engineer from the future but id think they would work out aerodynamic problems on mechs equipped with jets especially as stock. Huge reason i preferred to play 3rd person view. (Probably a bug of some sort that could have been caught since it doesn't relate well to the actual shape of mech chassis, some simply did it while others didn't.

Without pulling up any books or references and just going with what-immediately-comes-to-mind:
  • ost* : all of 'em. Yeah, the stats weren't bad on some, but I never liked the look.
  • Urbanmechs: Too slow, too ugly.
  • Javelin: For some reason, in table, I never saw one of those things make it past the first salvo of weapon fire. With regularity you could set your watch to in the first round of fire someone would sneak a shot in and set off one of the ammo bins.
  • Quads: all of 'em. Shut up. You KNOW why.
  • Hunchback: It just looks...goofy.

In MW4, I hated the Argus. Stupid weapons loadout but at the same time, stupidly hard to kill. That, and it looks like an emaciated man-toaster.

I never really liked much of the original designs - flimsy looking 'Mechs with art lines that went nowhere. Seriously, some of that art was just BAD. Like the original Dungeons and Dragons art, looking at that stuff you can understand why nerds were ridiculed.

I hate underarmored high speed mechs. The greatest offender happens to be the Hussar. I mean sure it has a large laser on a light frame, but what the hell, a machine gun array can chop it to pieces in one volley. It can be taken out by an SRM2 STREAK. One alpha strike from a Jenner and it's TOAST! I am not even kidding about the Jenner. To me the Hussar is the worst, but there are other offenders out there, cough Cicada cough. I know every person who likes these designs will always plead the speed is life case, but seriously you will be singing a different tune the second a PPC bolt hits your paper-thin armor.

Well, something to consider is the variant of the Cicada... sure the prime variant sucks but with some star league / lostek... 40 tons running at 140kph with a ERPPC and able to jump 240 meters isn't exactly something to laugh at in hilly / forested terrain when it pops in, takes a shot, then runs off before you can even try to get close enough to shoot it. (3F with endo + XL engine... which the Cicada is one of the best mechs to put an XL engine on with this in mind as a harassing hit-and-run sniper)

For the Ost mech's they are supposed the Bad Aliens Cobat Suits and the Marauder is their Commander which may look a little better.
The Reason why they look Bad is because they are the Bad Aliens vom Macross.

For the Handheld Guns in Mechs etc. They are from mostly stolen from Mangas but they have some nifty Features sometimes, like ability for Hand to Hand Combat after detaching Gun's. In Table Top a good Hand to Hand Combat can solve very Quickly a Game because it's easy to hit the Cockpit instead of using Weapons. For the Trash Can ( how we call Urban Mechs) haters... they are very specilist on one Invorement. But i keep forgetting which... Something where you can Jump on Something which ist max 2 Levels high, like a House and then destroy as a team another Mech... So in a City or Hilly soroudnings is a group of Urban Mechs a real Danger. Anwhere else ... Trash.
But it was Constructed as a very very Cheap City Defence Mech for Militas, like the Watchman.

So enough of Rant now to Hate Look Mechs:
Raijin
Nighstar
Men Shen
Yeoman
Shugenja
Red Shift
Lightray
Cronus
Ninja-To Yes what looks like two LBX-20 are ER-Lasers...

Or to putt it in simple... 20% of the 3058 and 50% of the 3060 Handbook. Some of them look like... i have to putt more missles and bigger Missles Racks and bigger Laser/AC Bores on them so i draw it. Luckily in the 3067 the Artist with the Botched Eyejob got less to draw...
But most of the realy Ugly Stuff went luckily Bust and vanished from the Memories...
