I think that it is still way weak for what 12 jumpjets should do, btech says 240m jump distance, ingame its showing 125 max, and Jumpjets are still much to slow to escape ssrms or really be as mobile as this mech needs to be to be viable imho.

i can stand in the middle of the enemy group with 4 MGs and be killed last in my team

Not enough damage out put...
Not able to dodge Streaks....
Not enough Armor....

Dude, so you placed a hex sign on the entire enemy team within their camp so that they didn't deem you a threat even though you are standing in plain sight? "These aren't the droids you are looking for." Excellent classic Jedi move. Kudos!

I landed my Spider on a Catapult that had landed on a Stalker.

I also was targeted by an LRM volley of 40 or so missiles. I jumped -over- them.

Flying bunny still gets picked on by Commandos.

It's simply got no niche other than jumping, and jumping isn't all that useful tactically in this game.

There's a difference between being openminded to this mech and being a fanboy.

Believe me I WISH the thing were more effective. It's just a bad mech. Half it's potential firepower taken off on a 5V if it carries a TAG...WUT?

I just took out an Illya on my Spider. I loaded it up with 3 Medium Lasers, and just circled him to death. He tried putting his back to a building, so I just circled the building, while occasionally changing directions to keep him guessing where I was coming from. Spiders can kill large prey, you just have to be tricky about how you do it.

I got called a hacker today. It was epic. I'll give it to you from his perspective: the Awesome.

"Damn spider, get off me. Nearly cored me out.... Oh great, I'm the last one on my team. OK, ill put my back to a wall and get him with my streaks when he comes around..... WTF, WHY IS HE HITTING ME ON THE FRONT-RIGHT OF MY CHEST! He's not even infront of me! HACKER!"

I jumped onto the building he was standing with his back to, then stepped off on to his head. Then began to aim down with my gun arm and 2x MPL him to death while he was walking around in circles looking for me. Killed an Awesome with a Spider, by standing on his head. How's that for a tonnage kill ratio?

There is enough hate threads out there for the Spider. If you don't want to drive one, thats fine, but please don't bring Spider hate to a thread where people are trying to actually enjoy the mech.

We all know its not the best light mech out there, that doesn't mean we cannot enjoy it.

A team mate of mine jumped his Spider for I don't know how long pirouetting through the sky. It was quite impressive to watch.

You haven't figured out that every mech chassis that allows for lasers (2 hardpoints and 2 slots) in center torso is best served by installing a single large laser there if it can spare the weight (3 extra tons over 2 medium lasers) or better yet an ER large laser if it can handle the heat. This applies to the Phract 4X, the Centurians (especially the poor Wang of all Cents), and equally the Spider. An ER large laser Spider spotting and lighting up targets from 1300 meters away is a very different insect from a spider sporting 2 medium lasers. You can create distance between you and your enemy faster and in more ways and directions than any other mech in the game. Use that ability and adjust your weapons accordingly. You have no business facing anybody's front within 270 meters, so why mount medium lasers? All 3 Spider variants can create the exact same mech: a single ER large laser in the chest regardless of other hardpoints or lack of them. Complain about useless ballistic points on the K model because you don't like that your quad machine guns just burned 2000 rounds and scored less than 20 points total damage at the end score board, and you look like a tool in front of other players around the world you don't even know but all scored over 200 points, some over 500 points, and there you are last to die longest to stay in the game... with 20 points damage from continuous fire? Ok,I see you point. Drop the machine guns if you don't like them and put in the ER large laser. That should be standard issue here. You know what else runs around with just a large laser shooting from its butt (ok center torso)? A Wang hero mech that's been zombied. Do people rave about the zombie centurian as a still viable fighter packing laser(s) from its indestructable center torso (indestructable as in you can take my gun but you will have to pry it from my cold dead hands)? All the time! How long does it usually take a Wang packing an AC20 in the right arm to turn into a Wang running around sporting lasers from its chest? Less time than it took me to type the last sentence (but to be fair I'm a very slow typer). So your Spider starts as zombied Wang and you didn't have to endure the cost of buying that AC20 nor the anguish of losing it before you blew anyone into kingdom come. Fine. But let me ask you this. Can your Wang run faster than a speeding bullet? Can your Wang jump over buildings in a single bound? Is your Wang the diminutive size of a Commando in hitbox stature? Ok please don't answer that last question. It's rhetorical.

I love my DAKA 5K Spider! 4mgs and flamer! ;)

Coolest thing in the world is a jump jet strafe mgs blazing. Just getting a component is a huge thrill in this thing. All day I only got one kill, thats cause he was getting teamed up on. I gotta get used to having arms.

Its a fun mech. I'm out to take out an atlas, been few times I had a red internal zeroed on, soo close. :lol:

I'll keep this comment brief (for once). The Spider D can sport a PPC in the right arm complemented with a medum laser in chest. It can also sport an ER PPC alone with DHS's and nothing else if desired. It can snipe maximum damage at 800 meters. It can reach targets over 1500 meters. It can do this from all locations attainable only by a Spider on the maps. It can do this cloaked by ECM if you wish to be lazy about LRM's within 1000 meters. Your ECM sniper can reach out and touch someone at over twice the distance that someone can TAG you for LRM's (not even mentioning closing distance to disrupt your ECM cloak). The traditional snipers returning fire at you are shooting at a Commando size target hiding and sniping from right arm exposed only at roughly 1000 meters distance. Meanwhile you're likely returning fire on bloated slobs like Cat K2 or Phract or Awesome or Stalker or Atlas with exposed torsos.

Yes, it does, the 5D can equip ECM.

And I'm still loving the Spider, I just spend 7 minutes in my 5V(no ecm) dancing around the enemy team on Frozen Night while my team pummelled them with LRMs and direct fire at range. I had all of 234 damage and 8 assists, lost both arms and 1 leg(again) but had a blast!

Oh, and be careful jumping on top of the big tower in Frozen City, I jumped up there, landed and got a leg blown clean off before my Mech stopped fully, other leg blown off before I could hit R ;) And my Spider's have full leg armor..all 28 points...
