This is a simple poll. I want to get a better feel for the MWO community. Hopefully the developers will find this helpful as they continue making progress on MWO! After you have submitted to the poll, please post:
  • your 4 favorite mechs (variants), within MWO.
  • your preferred game mode: Conquest/Assault and Pug/4man/8man
Please pass the word! The more submissions the better.

P.S.: If I missed any options, please alert me so I can update the poll.

I remember MechWarrior 2 a little bit when my older brother played it but it was MechWarrior 3 that really got me into the franchise. I loved it a lot but I never finished the conquest for some reason lol....then my mom threw it in the trash ;). I always played as Cauldron-Born, Mad Cat, and Daishi in instant action, and my younger brother, and my best freind always played Bushwacker. We had a Bushwacker and Cauldron-Born rivalry in our house :). Within MWO my favorite mechs would be the Centurion CN9-D, the Cataphract CTF-2X, and the Atlas AS7-D. I used to hate the Atlas because I thought it was overrated but than I tried it out and now my K/D ratio is slowy rising. I don't have a fourth favorite yet but once the Trebuchet comes out I'm sure I will. As for my prefered game mode, it would have to be the old Assault, where base caps meant something. Now they are just an annoyance beacuse you don't get as many c-bills if you do cap early. I also prefer playing pug, mainly because of the challenge and I like leading the newbies. There have been many complaints about the game but I'm just happy PGI decided to develop another MechWarrior game you know? I'm dissapointed but that does not mean I don't have fun playing it!

I only have one question...

Why isn't "OPERATOR" in the poll?!

This weekend is gonna be nuts, man. Gotta stock up on 'em mints to avoid getting a sore throat.

Nice poll btw.

EDIT: SRY DIDNT SEE THIS YOLO WILL CORRECT NOW ETC

4 Favourite Mechs? You talkin Mechs or variants?

1> Cataphract/ CTF - IM
2> Atlas/ ATLAS - DDC
3> Dragon/ DRG - FLAME
4> Centurion/ ANY: It's like hunting waterfowl and other game birds.

Preferred Mode: Assault
Reason: Conquest is way too annoying, it feels like assaults with basecap, and I HATE capwarrior.

Preferred Drop Style: 3-4man Lance. I guess you guys call it premade.

Okaaaaay survey done.

Do I get a RAC5 cookie now?

I choose Other since it was the Battletech RPG and battletech crescent hawks game that first got me into it.

Mechwarrior PC game and MW2 were the ones that hooked my on *this* style of game play :)

Gamemode: Conquest, I like the tactical options over plain assault.

Mechs:

- Commando

- Centurion

- Dragon

- Cataphract

I could only answer the first question - TT.

The second question. I only know what option 1 means. Since option 3 and 5 don't make sense to me and options 2 and 4 depend on them. So what is the 'core of MW' and 'MW history' meant to mean?

The third question. I do everything except LRMs, so nearly all trades, but even then I wouldn't accept 'Jack' because I'm actually as good at them as any 'King' :)

I would prefer variants. Could you expound upon "Operator". I believe that would fall under playstyle?

Thanks. I have no cookies.. :)

I think I've more or less listed the variants, although I can make it clearer.

I harp to my lancemates on skype and give them a steady stream of (according to them) useful information, but I try my best to be annoying in the process. It's probably a variant of Bridge Bunny.

You should stock up on cookies, I am often chewing on one.

But I guess that's how...

The poll creation view has the answers numbered, but basically it's just falling in between the statement above it and below it; it provides a grey area for those of us that don't see it as black/white. As for core and history, it's really subjective.

I always thought I was kinda weird for being a "jack of all trades" type. But it seems I'm not alone. I have a friend (IRL) that his Atlas all the time. He decks it out in short range weapons and plays the brawler.

But I get bored. I have my hunchbacks that I change up the roles for frequently. I have Assaults, Mediums and lights just for variety.

Been playing Mechwarrior games since MW2 :Mercs.

Atlas
Stalker
Hunchback
Commando

Much prefer Assault to Conquest. Full time Puggie. Haven't played in a week though.

Usually an assault driver but I dabble in other weight classes to be a Jack of all trades.

I try to clarify: In question 2 option 1 actually means something, options 3 and 5 are vague to the point of meaningless, and then options 2 and 4 are dependent on the understanding of meaningless 3 and 5.

It means you don't know what Q2 of your poll means to anyone who reads it.

edit:

If you want you could get people to rate how important the TT source material is versus gameplay. I think it would be much clearer that way. Then you'd avoid using 2 phrases that don't have a meaning.

It may be weird, but I got into BT with books. Back in mid 90s in russia BT books were among few scifi ones available in a decent quality (even despite barely anyone played TT).

As for mechs, in current MWO state I find only fast heavies enjoyable, however if we ever get a real game and not just shooting range, all kinds should do.

MW2: Mercenaries was the game that got me into this genre (stomping robots).

I pretty much exclusively play pug Assault.

My favorite 4 are:
CPLT-K2
CTF-IM
AS7-RS
HBK-4SP

I play Jack-of-all-trade. *If this poll wasn't so rigged* I would say I also fall under Support/For-the-team, as I like to constantly check on my team to see if they need assistance. I hate leaving a man behind, which gets me in to trouble sometimes.

Hi,

I first played BT in the 80's and played the video games as they came out. However, the storyline/universe of mechwarrior is much less important to me than a good MechWarrior game. Staying to elements of the BattleTech universe adds flavour and possibly immersion but in the end it is the "experience" of fighting in a mech that matters and for the most part MWO succeeds at this extremely well. (ECM and SSRM are an issue at the moment but that will hopefully be resolved with time).

In MWO. I currently have about 15 or 16 mechs. My preferred mechs would probably be:
Jenner (D and F)
Hunchback (4SP)
Catapult (K2 and C1)
Stalker 3F (I will probably get more Stalkers but I want to see what the Highlander is like)

I have mastered the Jenner and Catapult and am working on the Hunchback. I just don't like the Atlas since I find it too slow to deal with changing situations on the battlefield. Most folks don't notice that the battle needs to be around your assault mechs since they are usually too slow to go to the fight ... the fight needs to come to them ... however, most folks in PUGs just run off leaving the assaults unsupported.

I play mostly PUGs (98%+) and randomly select between Conquest and Assault matches.

Finally, I have all the ECM mechs except the Atlas ... and can't stand to play most of them. The ECM+SSRM+fast mech is currently vastly overpowered ... since the Raven 3L or Commando 2D can often take down most other mechs ... certainly all the other lights unless the pilot is bad or the target extremely lucky. One of the reasons I have enjoyed the hunchback recently is that it is possible to defeat a 3L or 2D if you are reasonably good and reasonably lucky. On the other hand, the jumping spider is loads of fun until a 3L or 2D comes along ... at which point it will usually die very quickly unless I can escape ... which requires just the right terrain where the spider can jump but the 3L or 2D must take a much longer way around ... buildings by themselves are usually not sufficient.

Anyway ... my bottom line opinion is that MWO is a good game ... it has some glaring balance issues at the moment in my opinion (and the opinion of many others) that need to be acknowledged and dealt with ... the company representatives have not been very good at managing the community at the moment unfortunately (they should probably take a look at CCP and its problems with community management and learn from their mistakes ... which CCP has mostly corrected). The folks on the forum may only represent a vocal minority but despite the large amount of noise generated here ... there is some significant signal buried in there that it would be better not to ignore if the goal is to produce a good game in the long term.

Brilliant! I knew what I wanted, but was having problems putting it to words. I wish I could just add a new question. Now that votes are coming in, I hate to change it that much. Would feel unethical. :)

-Atlas D or DDC (But I tend to d avoid it as of late in a hipster-esque protest against it having ECM)
-Stalker 5S, 3F, or 5M (First two are brawlers, last is PPC/Streak sniper)
-Splatter cat (Run pugs with it typically since it can go toe to toe with most anything and multiple of them to boot)
-Centurion (Aesthetics and I like the arsenal they can mount)

I use to only play Assault, but now I will go in to Conquest with a fast mech. Conquest still doesn't satisfy me, though.
