I think the guy making up oblivion names is taking it a little too seriously.

My 'mechs have all their standard names so far. Because I think naming a vehicle (that is not a ship) is something that comes out better after you've seen it in action a few times. Like they have to sort of earn their names.

Unfortunately, we cannot rename our 'mechs after we buy them, so they stick with their default names.

When I finally caved and bought an Ilya Muromets I named it 'Paycheck' because that is what it felt like it cost me. Also, since it has the 30% bonus to cbills, I get paid whenever I take it out for a run.

Centurion CN9-A: Fearless. Because she was my first mech, I didn't know you could name them, so I just named her the first thing that popped into my head. Works, though, because it's an apt description of the playstyle that seems to work best when piloting her.

Centurion CN9-AL: Helios, then Phoenix. Bought it to master centurions, named it Helios because I knew it was going to run as hot as the sun since I wasn't planning on springing for DHS. :) Sold it after I was done, but eventually rebought it. This time I named it Phoenix, to stick with the fire theme and since it rose from the ashes, figuratively speaking.

Centurion CN9-D: Mercury. Because 300 engine centurions are *fast*. Ironically as soon as I was done leveling the XP on it the engine got moved to a catapult, so it hardly lives up to the name anymore.

Catapult CPLT-C1: Helios. Bought it after I sold the CN9-AL, decided to reuse the name because I liked it - and because I was planning on running a dual PPC build on it, so I knew it was going to run just as hot as the centurion did.

Catapult CPLT-K2: Mjolnir. Because what *else* swings as big a hammer as a K2 does? Amusingly enough, I never actually ended up running a double gauss or ac20 build on it - it ran a dual ac2 sniper/harasser build for a while, then dual uac5, and now quad LL.

Catapult CPLT-A1: Sagittarius. Because 'archer' seemed like an appropriate name for a purely missile armed mech. She's always been a pure SRM cat, though - no LRMs or streaks here.

Raven RVN-3L: Zephyr. Because it runs like the wind, and you'll have to work hard if you want to catch me. Standard ECM/streak/mlas build, but shelved until piloting it no longer feels like cheating. I didn't name the two crappy ravens, since I knew I wasn't going to keep them.

Cataphract CTF-2X: Nike. Not the shoes, but the goddess of victory. No real connection to the mech itself, I just like the name.

Cataphract CTF-4X: Vulcan. Again, not the planet, but the forge god. Seemed appropriate for a mech which relies on spitting out massive quantities of hot lead.

Awesomes:
AWS-8T: Warsome (Made it as close as I could to a Warhammer IIC so I crossed the names)
AWS-9M: Awesomer (Self explanitory)
AWS-8Q: Zaku (The head reminds me of a Zaku for some reason.)

Cataphracts: (All based on Neon Genesis Evangelion angels)
CTF-3D: Arael (The angel of the birds. The show depicted it as a giant glowing blue bird, my 3D has jump jets and flies plus mounts 4x LL that have blue glowy beams.)
CTF-4X: Ramiel (The angel of thunder. My 4X always has ACs that sound like thunder.)
CTF-2X: Lilith (No fancy reason for this one, just felt with the other names Lilith had to be used. I suppose since it's the 2X and Lilith is the second angel, that might work for a reason. *shrug*)

Hunchback:
HBK-4SP: Hellbringer (Yeah... I can't wait for the clans.)

Ravens:
RVN-3L: Nevermore (Quoth the raven...)
RVN-2X: Murder (A group of Ravens is called a murder instead of a flock)
RVN-4X: (Haven't decided yet; Edgar, Poe, Crow, or maybe Night Wing)

Orion: (When it comes out, each named after a star in the Orion constellation.)
Rigel
Betelgeuse
Bellatrix

Warhammer (I know it doesn't exist, but I can dream!)
Thor (Inner Sphere surats, it is a Summoner, not a Thor! That mech will get other names.)
Mjolnir
Asgard

Edit: I leave hero mechs as their hero mech name. So my Yen Lo Wang is Yen Lo Wang, for example.

Cata 4X: Blastmaster
COM-2D (Of which I have had forever): Deadlock
Hunchie 4SP: DrunkenBrawl
Spider 5D: Lil Itchy.
Oh yah, and that COM 1D that I never use and stripped for parts: Striker

I'd be more epic, but these make me feel good all the same.

I so wish we could display our names.
