The current F2P model seems to turn some people off a little...
Anyway, here's the link:

I also like how he talks about the complexity of MWO without bashing it.
We definitely need a better new player experience though and more transparent game mechanics.
Its sad that most players will never go to the forums or fan sites, and so NEVER learn how to properly build a mech and even how much damage their weapons actually do.

MWO: dark, bland, gloomy.
For the average 35 second attention span American, which game do you think wins based upon this review?
Let's see some more color in MWO. It needs it.

We have lots of colour, it just costs too much.

I believe this just came out today as well.
One of the guys makes an interesting observation about 'Community', and how a good community often drives you to play a game more often than even the mechanics might.
I can definitely relate, as my time with City of Heroes was some of the best online gaming I've ever done... and it definitely wasn't the mechanics that were bringing me back. (Though the AWESOME costume creator and cool powers certainly helped, lol)
RIP CoH...... RIP... *sigh*

I actually felt that surprisingly, MWO had more color in it, it looked much better than Hawken, Graphics wise.
Maybe it's just my Internet connection or my screen though

Had to have a bit of a grin when the hula girls were plastered over the screen. Did that feel like a stab at MWO to anyone else?

Too bad PGI has NO clue on how to make maps.

I really like the MWO maps, I wish there were more and some larger maps, but in general the designs and terrain placement are pretty good and varied.

The maps in Hawken are more suited to that style of mech combat. Hawken "type" maps would never work in MWO.
I actually like the maps in MWO quite a bit, just wish we had some larger in scale.

Just from that video alone hawken looked like halo or MW2/3 with mechs instead of soldier. While MWO looked more unique.
MWO actually had a lot more customization and decision making.
Hawken had more twitch reflexes/running around.
Even without hawkens sharper visuals I'll take MWO's mechanics over another basic FPS any day.

Why do people keep repeating that Hawken is twitch? I agree it appears to be and is somewhat marketed as such due to assumed similarities to Quake/UT but it isn't twitch. You can't even do a fast 180 degree turn via mouse in Hawken, which is the definition of twitch, so instead you have some special move to flip around 180 degrees. In comparison fast lights in MWO are much more twitch and can snap around with their cockpit movement via mouse control with ease. MWO has a much wider variety of play styles with much greater differences in mech themselves because of the large weight class differences and customization which actually matters. In time I hope Hawken becomes more twitch (but I doubt it) and go beyond the meaningless customization it currently has (example +0.33% bonuses, yes 1/3 of one percent, how pointless).

Its missing a competent dev team and engineers/servers.
If the weapons were balanced, the net code functioned better than a 1995 game, and there were multiple servers to stop the 350+ pings, THEN MWO would be a totally awesome game.
But basic # crunching and horrible lag ruins it - even with my latency at 90 the game is nearly unplayable (on high speed West USA Cable). Even a stationary Atlas sometimes will not take any dmg on the paper doll as its firing are your team, simply because the game is broken. Muchless the jenner at 138kph... with the inconsistent lag and rubber banding; one moment you need to lead 15 meters the next 50. Its a guessing game.
