The Yen-Lo-Wang is on sale right now so I wanted to update my post.

I've seen a lot of posts calling the Wang soft. Claiming that it doesn't have the stamina to thrust to the top of the scoreboard. But I disagree - it's the most upright mech I've seen in its weight class. Given proper skill, it can firmly hold the line and with the right motions, there's no defense the Wang can't penetrate.

Here's my build:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...46a30be8c9dd2f9

I really enjoy playing with my Wang. That big AC/20 is loads of fun. The only problem is that without your right arm your Wang doesn't get much done. Twist your torso while unloading your big gun.

P.S. Thanks to the other posters on YLW threads. Bro, Frost, etc.

I think my dual UAC5 Wang( YEN-LO-WANG ) is faster, hits harder, and has more staying power, but I concur that all opponents should cower before our mighty Wangs, and acknowledge their power.

I suggest we make this the YLW thread reference thread, my YLW thread is @ http://mwomercs.com/...eally-that-bad/

The advantage that good old Allard-Liao's mech brings to the field is that of zombie: with a standard engine it has one whole side that can be blown away at no disadvantage to itself, and even with its gun arm gone, it can keep fighting till either both legs, head, or engine is gone.

Heck, its the toughest mech I've played so far, and the only Hero I plan on buying.

Are you....intentionally using all of those puns?

While it's true that it doesn't die easily, I still maintain that without that gun arm, it ceases to be much of a threat. Every time time I dis-arm one, I almost always go search for more threatening targets. Leave you for the light mechs to play with.

Swap the two MLasers you start with for a LLaser - or a Large pulse/2med pulse - won't be near so disarmed.

About the same amount of firepower actually. In the case of the large laser, less.

The best thing you can do to increase survivability in the Yen Lo is increase its speed. With Endo, Ferro, DHS, a Standard 260, 2 ML and an AC20 w/3 tons of ammo it will do 92kph with speed tweak and it's a hit-and-run monster. As long as you don't try to run it over open terrain where your short range becomes a liability, there isn't really any single mech that can cause it problems if you're a decent pilot. Lights can still be a nuisance, but one well placed AC20 shot is usually enough to send them fleeing for the hills, if not kill them outright.

On River City, it can be unstoppable in the lower city. Nothing beats dodging between buildings while hammering your foes with AC/20 shots.

If you're like me and you play pretty rough with your 'Wang :), then try this YEN-LO-WANG upgrade.

I do the same but with a 250STD and 4 tons of ammo. Can never have too many slugs.

True. but with more range/flexibility.
I usually pilot Commandos - anything that makes you're opponent underestimate you can be used against them.

Keeping in mind, that while the AC/X arm may have less armor than say, a Hunchbacks Torso-Gun, the Torso-Guns have their armor split back/front. -do they have the same potential armors? I do not own one so I can not say for sure, but if they do, their Max torso armor for that gun is only 48 - so a Hunchback's gun is actually less amored and thus technically more vulnerable compared to the solid 36 of the Centurion's arm.

-on the same note of a psyche aproach, most people look at the hunch and assume it is more armored, so they frequently don't even try, and the Hunchback's greater torso twist helps them protect said gun (though it is still vulnerable at any angle they put it  as opposed to the Centurion's arm-until they blow the other arm off anyways) So I would say Yen-lo is no more vulnerable or weak than any of his comparative fellows.

-edited cause I forgot to specify the Centurion's arm's armor values

I have been tempted to try a dual AC5 or UAC5 Wang but the weight of the guns seems to be too much. And I'm not much of a fan of XL engines. I might try it just for fun.

God dang it! You guys are gonna make me get one just so I can have a Wang too. I already LOL @ all the Wang chatter during a game. "Hey, you think they're scared of my Wang?" "That hunchie couldn't handle my Wang!" "I'm going in Wang first!"

Ok, I'll stop now.

I enjoy the YLW but I don't think it holds up in serious play. The arm is too vulnerable and the load outs are too limited. Still I've had some good luck with the mech.

I can accept that it has more flexibility.

However, as far as vulnerability goes, the gun on a YLW is far more at risk than the Hunchback's. Regardless of the armor value, the damage can be spread around to both sides. Meanwhile, you can hit the YLW's gun arm from almost any angle. Yes, you can turn your torso away, but that only counts if you're facing only one opponent. Meanwhile, the Hunchback's gun (while still sticking out like a sore thumb), is tight against it's body and the broad shoulder limits exposed parts a bit more, increasing the probability that you'll spread the damage to the head, center torso and rear armors.

Which, while not exactly 'good', is still better. Essentially, a YLW has a greater chance to lose its gun. A Hunchback has a better chance to just plain die.

Rico you have 3 spare tons. You could swap the 2 MPLAS for one LLAS or ERLLAS or LPLAS or PPC.
You could add another heat sink in the engine
Or a combination of the two.
It does look inviting with the top speed of 99.8. But I just don't like XL engines.

Try putting the ammo in the legs. I noticed I last longer once I moved it, no one aims for the legs on a wang, the upper body draws all the fire.

Hahahaha, my Wang has claimed over 300 hundred souls. But on a more serious note, I`ve had the Wang since it first came out and havent stopped using it. I`m crazy too, so I run an xl in it and have learned to spread damage so well I never die without losing all my armor. I also hate how underestimated they are. I mean I can take a DDC atlas with one and win. They are very deadly when piloted well. To be honest I have to say the ability to move so fast, coupled with a very fast speed, makes one of the best brawler mediums. Yes the hunchie is suspose to have that role, but a hunchie? I go after them and dominate them. The only kinda hunchie I have a problem with is the laser one, damn accurate lasers, and even then once I take out their shoulder they are done. I mean the ac20 makes the Wang in my opinion. Its a small mech with a big stick, and it knows how to use it. I mean even without my ac20, my two med lasers are put to fantastic use. I got 2 kills yesterday in a single game with nothing but my lasers left. And they had armor before I killed them. I mean people completely underestimate the Wang and they need to realize how great it is. Though when your running 4 Wangs on a team, they tend to attract the attention. Which is funny as they tear any mech to pieces.
