Just curious if people think it'd be wise to get a joystick (flight stick, not sure what to call them honestly) or if a gamepad would work fine. (Currently using a wired 360 controller)

When I played MW4 Mercenaries I used a Microsoft Sidewinder and it was fantastic, but that was the last game I needed it for and it's a bit outdated.

I know a fair number of people didn't care for the MechAssault games, but I remember the controls working pretty well, though I'm thinking that was because the game itself was pretty limited in terms of controls in general.

Anyways, I just want to get some opinions, and if you prefer joysticks, a recommendation would be great. I tend to favor Logitech peripherals, but for a purely game-oriented device I'd welcome other options.

Thanks in advance.

I used to use a Joystick in the 90s, but now I'm all about my 360 controller.

I recently purchased a whole set of flying sim goodies so I might as well put them into good use in here lol.

MechWarrior usually best with a joystick. At a certain range manuvering the mech becomes as important as aiming the weapons and this is where the joystick shines.

I've been shopping around and so far it seems like the best option for a joystick price-wise would be one from Logitech, at like $15-$30. I'll probably use the 360 controller initially, and if it feels too clunky or doesn't have enough buttons to handle the functions I want, I'll upgrade to a joystick. Nice thing is, joysticks seem relatively cheap, unless you get full flight set ups.

Wish I could learn more about the Razer Artemis, Razer's page didn't give too much info, kinda sad.

I tried mouse and keyboard for Mercenaries, but I had trouble maneuvering the mech to actually aim at something, how did you have it set up? (Was the mouse pivoting the torso, or turning the mech / any key combinations you came up with yourself)

Mouse and keyboard dominates for FPS gaming, and all but the majority of "pros" in the old mechwarriors used Mouse and keyboard.

With that being said though, I may try joystick for this game later on.

Well my damn joystick is conflicting with the mouse. So it looks like keyboard and mouse for the game.

I had one of those myself never could get my pc to see it. it has no drivers what so ever that I know of but that was several years ago when ace 6 came out. sure by now someone on the net should know how to by now good luck and let us know if it works i would buy on to use if it will work. that flight stick was nice and had great responce. tons of buttons which would work great with MWO.

There's no other controller that can come close to mouse / keyboard in terms of precision.
Except for flightsims that really need a lot of movement precision and thus an analog input.
MW is all about targeting. Movement is important but it has so much input lag (obviously - after all it should feel like a mountain of steel moving) that using keyboard is absolutely good enough. But for precision shooting, a mouse beats a stick anytime.

I'll probably be using mouse and keyboard for the most part, but considering building a full-on sim pit for the cases when I want to feel slightly more 'immersed'. =]
