I just see a few in game every so often, does the fact that they don't work on Streaks make them obsolete and the fact that you can hide behind cover for LRMs as long as you are not out in the open?

I'm in a bad spot if I need AMS but I love whenever my team mates have it. I don't carry it because I'm usually fast enough to get away from lrms.

Mostly because of ECM.
It's the best defense against missiles.

All of my mechs carry AMS. Sometimes two.

they do work on streaks. however they only work on streaks at longer ranges (closest i have seen ams engage streaks is ones that were fired at 150 meters)

I use it on all my mechs, even those that equip ECM. Every little bit helps.

Of course AMS is used. Not every mech can equip ECM and you shouldn't only run mechs that have ECM. I use it on the mechs I can fit it on. I've gotten very good at using cover, though.

I used to carry it on my mechs, but it's 2.5 extra tons that doesn't help that much against the massive LRM volleys that have been used of late. IMO it's better to err on the side of more armor/bigger engine than to chance the AMS reducing your LRM pain.

I use AMS on my slower mechs if weight allows for it. I risk it on the faster ones and hope I can get to cover with the least amount of damage being done.

I don't count on ECM to save my bacon because you never know when someone will hit the "J" key.

ams is good against 1 lrm 5 or 1 lrm 10
it kill a average of 7 missile in 3 sec
the ams range should be increase to 450 m and should not fire trough wall and roof

Thats the problem that Streak lights stay so close you would never know if AMS worked or not

I use it on SDR-5V because with no room for armament, armor near max and jumpjets being overnerfed and unsuitable for my current playstyle it's the best option. I rarely find myself shooting missiles incoming on me - it's more for protection of teammates.

I have it equipped on every mech I own that can. There are a LOT of missiles and you're not always snuggly warm in your ECM blanket. It can also help your vulnerable team mates from getting all their armor stripped off in a few seconds.

It's only 1.5 tons.

Thats why I would prefer that AMS would work against missiles even point blank range (IOW they should have less range, but faster reaction time against missiles).

If it does work on Streaks even if only slightly effective it may help a little bit enough to make room for it at least for me..Hmmm,decisions.

Yes,

Usually with two non-explosive weapons like a pair of PPCs or LL. Sometimes Ultra5's or AC10s if that best suits.
