power system feedback: new system sucks.

before patch: mech overheats and shuts down. pressing o. mech starts.

after patch: mech overheats and shuts down. pressing p -> nothing happens; pressing o -> nothing happens. have to wait until mech is cold enough (like pressing nothing)

€: as stated below, the animation at the beginning of a match is really nice. i'd like to press some buttons myself <.< (how 'bout a plugin for winamp/wmp/... in the cockpit that you can control in free view/arm control with ctrl+mouse)

BUUUUUUTTT still going to get old :-)

Just like shooting giant robots. B)

Seems like a background thing for me though. Wont likely get "old" so much as simply be there eventually. Which is better than it not being there I guess because I like pushing buttons and the animation seems to have lots of that. :(

The new system is not working very well. As previously stated, the former version works better.

Different animations for different cockpits? Nice.

What the heck! Camera scripts are in every modern game. Its state of the art.
(specially these two famous shooters ... mh... uh... dont know the names... Crapel Yield and Stuttern Spawn Fear)

Dont complain about slight shiat. Better motivate the devine devs. May the unflawed code arise.

I think this new direction is absolutely wonderful. I think that the initialization sequence with Betty is awesome. I think it could maybe be a little bit more involved, but it's awesome and I love it!

Regarding the new override system. I like the new override, but I think it should be a toggle. That's how things like that worked in tanks. If there's a safety system, overriding it is a toggle switch. When you're done, you turn the switch back off and the safety system immediately kicks back in. I think that functionality would improve the new override system, rather than it being a simple 5 second long thing. In any event, some sort of indicator would be welcome either way. (This is constructive criticism; I am outstandingly pleased with the direction this patch took.)

Secondly, manual power on/poweroff isn't working in an overheat situation. If I read the patch notes correctly, pressing manual power on should now function similarly to how override worked before this patch. At present, it does nothing if you are in an overheat shutdown.

You could never move the camera during the countdown, now theres an animation during the countdown. You have not lost anything. You didn't have it in the first place.

Unfortunately, I experienced quite a few red semi-translucent screens after cooling down where I had no HUD...

very useless, could use there time better like fixing the net code
implanting the new promised score board , new map, weapon balance, who dose actually care about a powering up/down sequence that you will see each match and get board really fast
what a wast of dev time

Yes, because animators also work on the netcode, UI and Weapon Balance in this game B)

Honestly, it's incessant whiners like you who don't understand what game development involves that make the forums painful to read sometimes.

Holy crap, those startup sequences look great! Thanks you guys for making those YouTube vids. I'm chained to my desk here at work, so I won't get to experience it for a few more hours.

The new startup animation instantanously broke immersion for me.

I don't see any reason to take camera control away from the player... it would be better to give the player free look by default during the startup or when shut down. Forcing me to look down on my avatar's hand feels unnatural.

This thread makes no sense. How does it break immersion? You say it took camera control away from you... that you never even had in the first place. The startup sequence takes place during the 10 second countdown, and when the countdown finishes, you are instantly ready. So I'm assuming that for you "immersion" is spawning in and starting at a countdown timer mindlessly for 10 seconds before you move, instead of watching your pilot startup the mech for 10 seconds before you move.

Basically, you never had camera control during the countdown, and thus there was no immersion to break in the first place.

Edit: And after reading the thread, it would appear that I'm just repeating what others have said. Well, no prob, cause ALL SYSTEMS ARE NOMINAL!

I think i may have found a bug, twice now i have overheated then 'powered up' but still have the 'heat warning, system shut down' and yellow hud.
I can run around and torso twist, but cant shoot or target anything.

Ive tried to reproduce it but no luck yet, i assumed it was from me pressing P when in overheated shut down, If I see a pattern ill add it here/ ticket it.

The new animation is cute, but why the heck is my multimillion credit battle mech starting the battle powered down in a random spot? How did it even get there in the first place?

Worse, previously you couldn't look at the map before a match started which was lame -- now you can't even look at the minimap. So rather than allowing people to look around and set their weapon groups before the action starts, you've instead made things worse for new players.

Save the power up animation for after you powerup -- your mech should still start powered up. As implemented this is development time spent on a step backwards. And that's without taking into account the bugs people are describing up thread.

Still -- definitely happy with the patch overall! Netcode seems much improved, though it's just been a couple of matches.
