See... this guy/gal gets it. Or at least part of it.
It is coming, so why not put your energy in to figuring out ways to make it as non intrusive as you can instead of flogging what is in essence a very dead horse.
it needs to be in the game for a very simple reason: marketting. Theyre marketting it in all third person. Look at the videos they make for the game and count up the number of in cockpit screenshots you see.

Yeah that quote scared me, realizing that this is likely all the game modes we're going to get for a long time.

they say that NOW. They also said that we'd never have 3rd person. What they say of that position now is "yes that was our position at the time".
Will you still be OK if their position later on is that they DONT need to split the ques?
As long as we have the choice to not drop with or against people using 3rd person, I can live with PGI changing their mind on "never" adding it to the game. I am even willing to wait in a longer queue to be able to play against people who don't need a special mode so they can look around corners.

No and i will be very vocal about my disappointment and feel cheated.
I might even regret why i didn´t join the anti-3rd person view task force in the past.
For now i am open and hope it doesnt influence my queue times.

Look at the lock message of the mod

So yes, there have been discussions of 3rd person. No, we did not intend to suggest that a third person view is 'coming soon.' And please remember:

so what about when THAT "never" becomes "well that was our position at the time" like this one did and the coolant one did?

Show me a dev post where PGI says they will never implement 3rd. Not posts that say it'll be first person out the gate, not focusing on 1st person. Unequivocally saying "we will NEVER do this". And the whole posts, not these damn modified take **** out of context ones people keep throwing around.
I'm not holding my breath, because I've actually read the posts and actually have reading comprehension skills.
Bring on 3rd person even if it means all the damn QQ ceases immediately on the boards. But let's face it, you all aren't actually going to leave.

This thread is not about whether or not 3rd person should it exist. Rather, we want your feedback on how it should be implemented. Understand we're not debating the merits of having 3rd person or not.
Its not about IF. Theyre doing it whether we like it or not.

You don't remember "external camera.........engaged"?
Course you don't cause half ya'll are noobs and this is your first mech game.
And I want to see my pimped out mech.
Are you guys so scared of 3rd person? is that really gonna up the skill for the kiddies who can't handle 1st?
I thought this was Mechwarrior.........I must have accidently stumbled into MechWuss online.
If 3rd person could make any y'all better they oughta give you 4th and 5th person too.
I don't know how you can start whining over something you haven't even seen yourself, what they got in mind might be absolutely impressive, you don't know.
You lucky my printer is broke.......i'd print this thread just to have a list of wuss i got to spank in game.
Just because it was in prior games doesn't mean it's a good thing.
Heck, let's bring back Mechwarrior 3's horrendous hit code. I remember having to shoot 6-8 mech lengths in front of a Strider small laser energy boat
Better yet... why don't we completely get rid of all hard points and allow a mech to mount whatever it wanted wherever it wanted same as in MW3?
I could start listing a lot of the features prior MW games implemented but failed epicly at...
Let me ask you one question. Where in the BattleTech universe were pilots able to get outside their vehicles and survey what was going on around them while staying in the cozy (hot) confines of their cockpits?
Bout the only thing was satellite, dropship or warship, LAM/AeroSpace Fighters... I don't recall a tether on a balloon or something with a camera on it extending out the back of a mech to the point most 3rd person cheese games allow.

Count the number of in cockpit shots you see.
Theyre advertising it AS third person.

Also regarding a spectator mode... This would not work for live games, as dead pilots would be able to report and share to the rest of their teams intelligence about things the living pilots wouldn't be able to spot themselves. The only way a live spectator mode would work is for something like eSports where the people running the event control the camera and the only people that can "spectate" are those that not actually in the match.
For screenshots and/or machinima, we need a "replay" mode, something like what Bungie did for HALO3: your previous match is saved as a file that you can save and view later. This would allow users to review the entire match, with free camera controls, and grab screenshots and video from outside the pilot's view.

It looks to me like all those "out of cockpit" shots are just zoomed in first-person shots or regular shots taken from a 'mech with devtools to turn the cockpit geometry off.

Ya but given theres like 3 in cockpit shots in the whole thing, they seem to be advertising it 3rd person more than 1st.
However they GOT the shots is kind of irrelevant

This man has a point. AS long as we dont have to play vs 3rd person players, who cares?
however all competitive drops etc need to be first person, or need to be seperated into 2 tourneys - the 3rd person tourney and the first person tourney.
