I'm precisely of the same mind, except the 'mechs are significantly overpriced. Therefore I neither grind them out nor over-pay for them. I have one 'mech so far, via c-bills, and if that's the way it stays, so be it. It's their loss, not mine.
I'd gladly drop $50-60 on this to get the complete game, and pay a couple dollars here and there for additional content injections down the road. (Say $5 DLC packages containing a couple new mechs and new maps, or content of similar value.) But not $10-20 for a single 'mech. No way. I'm sorry but Free2Play doesn't mean "change the entire cost scale so that getting the equivalent amount of content as a proper game requires spending several hundred dollars". Good luck with that. You'll be missing out on a lot of revenue by trying to keep that kind of pricing model.

This is one of the cheapest F2P models out there.
Unlimited play time, in-game money gets you all needed equipment.
There isn't level restrictions to unlock items, and you do not "rent" equipment.
Before busting their ***** over pricing, take a look at the following Free to Play titles, then tell me it's overpriced.
Blacklight: Retribution
Star Trek Online
Dungeons & Dragons Online
Knights of the Sky
Runes of Magic
Atlantica

If it doesn't float your boat, then clearly you shouldn't buy them... But perhaps, for a moment, you should consider that it isn't all about *you*. There are some players who have different circumstances / priorities, and some of them will welcome the temporary discount. With the possible exception of a few folks who got bumped off the servers during the reset, it's not any skin off of your butts... so why begrudge others the choice?
PGI is doing this as a Free-To-Play model. Income streams for them is a *good* thing. For those who feel various things, or even everything, is priced too high... well, you can play for completely free. Man, those bastages at PGI are just really hosing you over! Sheesh...
You can vote with your wallets, and that's fine. But why denigrate the offer, or those who would choose to avail themselves of it? Discouraging other players from making purchases isn't going to help PGI continue making payroll, or running servers. I don't know about each of you, but I suspect most of you, like myself, would like to see this game succeed, and persist. If other people are willing to cough up some money for *whatever* reason, make a smug smile, and sit back and enjoy the ride!
And no, buying the non-hero Dragons with MC does not currently appeal to *me*. But that's just me. For those who wish to, I applaud them.
Different horses for different courses!!!

Player: "Screw this free to play game! They can't get anything done right the way I want it when I want it! I'm going home until it's fixed!"
PGI: "Hey players, we're going to make these popular and well-performing mechs cheaper, but only for regular currency because buying with in-game currency is already inherently 'cheap' and as a beta trying to work into a strong, quality product we need to give people a reason to spend money so we can afford to deliver the quality product you are ******* and moaning so much about wanting."
Player: "This is stupid! Why should I pay money for a quality end product?!"
And they lived happily ever after.

Why would I compare this with games I don't play and have no interest in playing? Instead, I'd rather compare it with past MechWarrior games I have played (and many fans still play), none of which used a convoluted f2p grind mechanic to "unlock" content, especially in multiplayer.

Funny.. my Grand Dragon tends to eat slow, clumsy Stalkers for lunch (unless they are VERY well supported) as your ponderous turn rate and horrible fire arcs make you easy meat for anyone who knows how to drive a fast attack mech.
I use my Flame with the 2+2 config I first started on my C1; 2 large pulses and 2 medium lasers. Max engine and ferrofibrous, but I could of course pull out the ferro and do a grand dragon for fun.

Dragon is a mech for skilled and experienced player -
Majority of the player base (mentally handicapped ppl) are going to regret if they buy it with MC.
Pointless deal.
Take 20% off of a hero Dragon, allow us to change color schemes on hero and founder mechs and I will buy a hero Dragon.

I imagine upgraded redesigns being entirely new 3D models (sleeker looking) (Cataphract->Caesar; Spider->Venom; Dragon->Grand Dragon ; etc). But yeah, it is entirely possible to make a fake 5K with the Flame, with the correct weapons (except for the medium lasers in the wrong spots), and the same engine.

This is where I'm at. I already have a DRG-1N but I am reluctant to buy two more Dragons which have nearly the exact same loadout. I do kinda want to master them fro completeness sake. Had this been a Cbill sale I would have bought them instantly and the mech bays to store them. I never sell a mech once I buy them so I'm always having to buy mechbays.
As it is now though there are other mechs I would rather work on.

That just me, but it's why I don't own any. (I tried one when it was a trial mech.)
