Okay...

I just dropped out of a match where I and my team were steamrolled in the purest sense. That said... now wait for it... I'm not here to complain or whine. :P

I was on the losing side of some spectacular teamwork and am both envious and awestruck...

My team dropped on the low/south side of Frozen. Quickly we set up to hold the ridge. First an Atlas pops it's head over the ridge to peak and recede. Next peeked a Gaussecat, this too receded quickly. Next a Commando which ran through our ranks and lured 3 of our pilots over the ridge to die by a shower of missiles. The rest of us hold fast...

Next thing you know we are getting popped from our flank which quickly followed by a charge over the ridge and the ensuing rush smashed our remaining 8 mechs and that was that...

Post match analysis: The mechs that were peaking, were doing so to keep our attention on the ridge while a couple of their heavy hitters quietly took the tunnel, snuk in close while we concentrated on the ridge. Lastly, they coordinated the rush to where their flankers drew our attention off the ridge allowing their remaining pilots to rushed us unabated and then concertedly whooped us good.

Thing is... While I didn't necessarily like getting my butt kicked... I could not help but admire the masterful battle plan they executed.

This ^^^ This is the stuff that makes me go "wow" about this game and this is what keeps drawing me back night after night.

Didn't have time to catch who this team was but "kudos" for one hell of a battle plan!

I find matches of this game hold either the greatest examples of planning and teamwork, or the worst cluster f***s of mindless death and failure. I tend to use the Command option whenever it's availible and when my team listens we tend to win. When people decide to go off on their own while screaming "LEEEERRRROOOYY JJJEEEEENNNNKKKINNS" my team tends to lose.

Quite sure that was my team. Was there a Splatapult and thundercat behind you??? If so, that was us.

A good splatapult flanking on that map can kill or turn the battle. A thundercat and splatapult is just a steamroll.

I've seen that done a lot of times. Sometimes it happens out of pure coincendence, not even any kind of battle plan.

I'm more impressed if a sniper eliminates two or more heavies in a matter of seconds and makes the result of the match pretty much determined.

If it was you and your team, accept my congratulations for a hell of a maneuver! :P

Seen this tactic or the valley flanking variant used often to a greater or lesser degree of success. Seems to be becoming more popular in the last couple of days.

Control of E5 is critical

Sounds like my Commando -- but it might have been a different game..... I usually play the bait role in Frozen City......
Although looking at the mechs you say flanked, it might not have been me....

I do have to agree, though, it matters not whether you win or lose when you see something like this happen.

I've seen..and been the victim of this same tactic. Also in Forest Colony..they send a light or two around the water's edge, get half my team chasing them, with maybe an LRM boat bombing any out in the open, and then the rest of thier team comes through the tunnel and ugh...

I've gotten used to watching the tunnel, but when they all come out, it's all I can do to fire off an alpha at the first, and beat feet, calling a warning..and die shortly thereafter.

Of course, I've used the lure tactic myself. Speedy mech, go over the ridge, draw some fire, hit a couple of them, duck back over to my team and usually one or two enemies will follow me over to get focus fired.

basically what you describe there is something everyone should reccon with... but yea,i agree, in pug matches its a sensation when simplest tactics are being executed well :)

Heh I do this on this map every match. the tunnel sneak works great because most teams on that side of the map think to have at least 1 spotter in there.
