look at it this way when you have 300 ping. they can't hit you as much as you can't hit them

get yourself a light mech and live up the lagshield

yeah i really enjoyed my slide show cockpit, snappy aiming at things which suddenly dissapeared until i stopped dead... literally dead when i tried lights <_< watching the warping and stutter frames from the outside is nothing like watching snap frames from the inside. i still can only play mechs under 90kph cause aiming becomes impossible and crashing into things becomes common.

Sorry to see someone leave. I goto say tho mate i think youre blaming things that you shouldnt tho. Im an Aussie also and run same pings around 250-300 and while not wanting to seem to brag i got a K/D ratio of close to 2. Im retired so i get to play anytime of day so i pug alot during US prime time then join up with an Aussie team in the evenings. Huge team with 400 on Roster but probably only half active, we have lots A class pilots all dealing with the lag. Look if you want to head over to the No Guts No Galaxy TS3 server you will find a heap of ausies there playing in the evenings, come have a look you may learn some stuff and play with guys with the same problems you have.
But anyways mate ping shouldnt be the problem stoping you playing, theres hundreds maybe thousands of players out there with same ping enjoying and exceling in the game.

I can understand exactly what your saying here. The problem isnt so much the size of the ping, its the fact it varies so much which makes it hard to counter.
I play World of Tanks as well, and with over 350ms ping to the NA server i was still able to get a 75% hit ratio and lead my targets quite well. I play on the SEA server now, and the lower 200ish ping is much better, so i can work around ping, its just the random spikes and wavering ping that gets me killed.

Yes part of it is my frustrations at getting dead in 3 seconds from spotting someone, but that is just part of the game - I pressed on and improved as much as i could.

As others have said, there seems to be some more work happening on the code as well as my ISP doing work on the hardware in my area.
Hopefully this will lead to more stable ping times. If it does, ill be back - but for now, ill just keep patching and trying a round or 4 every now and again.

I really do want to enjoy this game...

Your service provider may have something to answer for also. Unless you're with one of the companies that maintains the hardware(optus is usually the best) you're going to get bad service interruptions and be at the bottom of the 'priority list' for data traffic. 'High speed' is generally not an accurate description as your service will not maintain it's connection speed.

I can play at 12 FPS on a laptop from Melbourne because my lag is consistently bad. Also, if you're on a contract you can send them breach of service notices and they'll sometimes let you out of it.

This is quite true. Being in England I have a typical ping between 100 - 130. Good compared to what you're suffering but still a bit high, However, because I'm with BT who actually own most of the hardware involved I get a nice steady connection. Stability may well be as important, if not more so, than raw latency figures.

Might be worth checking out alternative providers in your area...

I don't think the OP's game will improve until/IF they have a regional server close enough

I have tried to play a few other games on 300+ ping and they are unplayable, so it may just be the nature of his connection
400 seems excessive as the highest ping players seem to be in australia and my group mates from oz tend to be in the 250-300 range, and whilst this is difficult to play from they seem to do ok

I hope a european server and the announced improvements in coding will help you a bit. So maybe you can come back later this year and enjoy the gaming. CU

I play tanks with 350 ping, not a problem - but in MWO, 350 ping is a death sentence.

I can't believe you'd even try to play a twitch game with a 350 ping. That's dial-up territory.

I don't remember the last time I had pings that high. I think I was playing Quake 1, back in the days before cable and when DSL was new. It worked ok because everyone else had crappy ping times too. Nowadays...I would not even bother.

that's not even dial-up for quake 1. 56k was 150-180 ping for Quake 1, Soldat, and Quake 3. 200-250 ping for a laptop playing the same game (go figure, right?). It's all about non-optimized netcode. They can get away with it these days because a sloppy coding is made invisible by "high speed internet".

Fortunately, LRMs suit my style (NZ here, so yeah, 200 ping s a good day) But I'm sick and tired of 8/0 losses. I'm in an MASTER assault 'mech, I know what I'm doing. But as soon as the US teams come on, dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, dead. Yeah, that was SIX 8/0 losses in a row. Tired of it, there's no fun involved. I'll check back sometimes maybe to see if they've ACTUALLY balanced match selection, but otherwise I've had a fracking nough. I guess if all us PUGs wander off, at least the teams will be balanced more.
