If they really wanted to sell some hero mechs, they should have released BEFORE the Superbowl, and had a pair of Awesomes, one in Ravens colors, the other in 49ers colors...

Two threads, should be merged I think :)

Is this alpine in the background??

The mech looks brutal. Don't know about the name though.

Is that an actual photo in the background?

There is a DCMS unit that has chains connecting all over the different parts of the mech.

Curious why they would put that scheme on this terrible looking design.

It looks like Pretty Baby is superimposed... Either the background is horribly out of focus or it's a low-rez image?

Only the AWS-8Q is a pure energy boat... Every other canon variant of the Awesome is a mix of missiles and energy. If majority rules, it is the 8Q that goes against the "'feel' of what an Awesome SHOULD BE"

When people were clamoring for the Awesome, they weren't thinking of missle boats, or missle-laser boats. They wanted a PPC/laserboat platform. When Clan Mechs come out, there's going to be a big movement for the Nova Cat to be produced (even though, I believe, it's way down the pipeline year-wise). When you think of the Nova Cat, do you think of Autocannons or LRM's? Well, almost every variant of the Nova Cat carried those weapons (either/or). http://www.sarna.net...Cat_(BattleMech)

The Awesome is an ENERGY boat. So is the Nova Cat. Sure, there are exceptions, but gimme a break....

I call TROLL on your post!

_______________
BTW, the variant I was hoping for, the Awesome 9Q is also an Energy Only boat. It's a few years down the line, but all the tech it uses is currently available, suggesting a person COULD modify a 9M or 8Q into a 9Q. (PERFECT for a HERO mech!) I would also pay money for the C-Bills to pilot this beautifully symetrical design. The ECM would also give it the edge it needs to be competitive. (Though, admittedly, the larger engine would likewise make this a competitive mech.)

It looks like that stamp starts at the navel and goes down and around to ensure maximum accuracy by any drunk mech driver given the opportunity.

They should have added a prototype of the Awesome 9Q for the Awesome Hero Mech since the 9Q isn't released in canon till 3057. Still... They could of added a 4 PPC version of the Awesome which is pretty much a super Warhammer. They then just need to tack on a ECM module and call it a 9Q later on in the game after the Clan invade.

actually, pretty sure by the half robotic legs, that picture is of Rhonda Snord, pretty much the second most famous femal mechwarrior (after Natasha Kerensky), who lost both of her lower legs in battle. I could be wrong, but Peterson I don't believe is listed anywhere as a cyborg.

Unless they are going to add the insignia ninja style later, it won't be Pretty Baby!

She was an active Pilot in 3025, and listed again in 3039. Since the average life is well over 100 years in Battletech, it is hardly an issue for her to not only still be piloting, but probably hold the rank of at least Major by now, which would give her the pull to modify her mech with new tech as it became available. (Heck Natasha Kerensky was an active pilot from pre 3005 til 3057-ish)

At first glance, I'm not terribly impressed. It all depends on the hard points though. My problem with Awesomes in general is that it's hard to equip a powerful weapon set. This looks superficially similar to the 8V.

I too would have rather seen a 9M or 8Q variant.

WHY, WHY, OH WHY DEVS????? I was waiting patiently with my MC to buy the hero assault, and we get this mongrel looking harley davidson OC chopper painted chud! FAIL! Adam Steiner's mech was a no brainer. it would offer a second choice to the ECM debauchle and vary the field more. Now we miss out on another field balancer, and a mech which I am certain a PILE of battetech/mechwarrior fans wanted to get behind the controls of. At least give us the option to repaint the hero mechs and I will buy it. I refuse to take anything painted that irrationaly into the battlefield.
I am not against the variant on any other basis as the 8V is my current favorite mech for all around use. 290 std 3xsrm6/art 3ml and 1 ER PPC. As many DHS as I can stack in.

Edit: PS Kill it with fire!!!!!

No Offense to those who like it. But PGI's Hero paint jobs are just not doing it for me...

I can see the time and effort put into the paint Jobs on these Hero Mechs, but they just look plain ugly.

At least let us chose the colors so we can make it all black or red if we don't like the paint...

I'm not sure why PGI doesn't allow the repaint of Hero mechs. Heh, you can refit and tweak it to your desire in the Mech Lab as a Pilot but I guess they haven't invented a can of spray paint yet. Then again maybe PGI will sell that as a module.

as for the tats, I don't see any listed on Danielle Peterson either (or bionic legs), and would probably have to say that is the "modern update" since tattoos on chicks are a hell of a lot more common today than in 1987.

Those legs don't look the least bit robotic to me.

then again, the fluff does say Danielle Peterson is blonde.

then she has chicken legs from the thighs down, since those "hard shell boots" are the exact diameter as her fleshly thighs. 2 things I promise you I know is battletech, and womens legs. (and all kinds of art related crap related to them)

Mech is ugly as anything. Looks like the designers went... the wrong way, on this one. Also, really not appreciating there being so many hero mechs. Theyre supposed to be unique, not a dime a dozen. Or in this case a Benjamin a dozen. Wonder how long it will take for the "collectors" to realize there are much better things to spend money on than "catching em all"?
