The Capellan Republic was formed in 2194 by Justin Aris as the successor to the earlier Capellan Holdfast. Created as a means of ensuring the survival of Capella and it's eventual dominance over local space, the Capellan Republic formed the basis of the Capellan Co-Prosperity Sphere and then the Capellan Hegemony.
Both the Capellan Republic and the Capellan Co-Prosperity Sphere ceased to exist as states with the formation of the Capellan Hegemony in 2270.

Geifer is home to the Capellan Institute of Lingustics, founded in 2978. The Institute chose Geifer for a simple reason: In 2218 it was made the library world for the Capellan Republic. During the Second and Third Succession War Geifer and its vast library were heavily damaged by bombing runs. (The attackers allege that these bombing runs were inadvertent but no one takes them seriously.) The only areas of the library that survived dealt with the physical sciences and linguistics. As part of the Xin Sheng efforts many Capellan worlds were encouraged to donate copies of available books and information to the Geifer libraries, which were undergoing reconstruction. Outside observers speculated that by 3077 the library would rival that of even the NAIS.
The Capellan Institute of Lingustics (founded in 2978) has proved a boon for the Capellan diplomatic service and the Maskirovka. Diplomats trained here are skilled in how their opposite numbers think, based on writings from their homeworlds. The Maskirova has also cracked numerous codes and translated foreign documents with resources from the Institute. Beyond all that, the Institute is one of the few universities that survived the Succession Wars.
Geifer is also home to the "Geifer Pachy", an elephant like creature that is about the size of a Terran ox. In fact many of the tenant farmers on Geifer's western continent use the Pachy in the same way an ancient Terran farmer would use an ox.

Well, maybe someone just played around with matches...
We had an earthquake on Helm, back in 3028. A whole lake disappeared, after a mech battle between the 5th Marik Guards and the GDL. I met someone from there, and he told me that ComStar had its fingers in it...and Kurita.
There are more nutcases in the IS than just the Liaos.
