LISTEN UP MECHWARRIORS!

I'm pretty sure if you're here, you like MECHS. LASERS. EXPLOSIONS. RAPIDLY POUNDING THE 'O' BUTTON.

You might be veteran of countless battles over the years, or you might be a little green and not aware of the rich history of Mechwarrior gaming available to you.

We Mechwarriors have two decades of great gaming, but unfortunately it's not easily accessed nor is it guaranteed to work particularly well on modern systems.

What if I told you there's a way around that? A way to get these games working on modern systems and purchasable by the general public again?

All we need to do is get a fraction of the MWO player base to throttle over to the GOOD OLD GAMES website, an online games retailer that specialises in reworking and re-releasing old games DRM free that work on modern systems, and visit their community wishlist and get all the Mechwarrior & Mechcommander games voted up! (And maybe we could help out those Heavy Gear scrubs too)

It might take a while for the games to get fixed up but once we've come together as one voice I'm certain GOG will not ignore us.

Lots of old games are selling on this site and some of them were not half as popular as the Mechwarrior series'.

So get to it Mechwarriors! Spread the word! Tweet! Start a Facebook or Google+ group! Tell your lancemates and your clan! Even spam in game chat!

Let's end this Mechwarrior dark age and have some GREAT old games playable by ourselves and people who haven't been as fortunate or around as long as some of us have.

Let's make 2013 the year Mech gaming hit back hard!

Who owns the rights to distribute Mechwarrior 2 and Mechwarrior 3? If Microsoft still owns the license, wouldn't it be possible to have them give the greenlight to distribute Activision's and Zipper Interactive's works? Or what?

Yes it is. I played it yesterday on w7 64-bit thanks to mech2.org.

DOS/W95/3DFX and Titanium versions all work thanks to the Mech2.org fix.

Thats mechVM fix you mean and no it doesn't work.

You're either mistaken or very ******* fortunate.

Or you still have your discs in prime condition.

Alot of running MW2 is hit or miss.

Mine and everybody else's works perfectly fine - DOS version, W95 version, 3DFX version, and Titanium version.

Are you using the ATI Rage / Matrox Mystique versions by any chance? If so, try out the regular original DOS or W95 version.

Just for your information. You dont need to go to gog to get either of the Mech Commander games or MW4 mercs. All 3 games are free to download and I cna confirm that they work on Win 7 64 Bit.

If they could get Duke Nukem 3D to run... I dont think that MW2 should be much of a problem

There's working and there's working.

Mechcommander 2 for free is without the story and pilot interaction videos.

Mechcommander won't install but can run the from a disk image.

I haven't tried MW3 but I only hear bad things. A shame because this was probably the best version.

Obviously there is some version of MW4: Mercs but the orignal game with the addon would be nice.

But really, let's try and get the actual products with all the shoddy FMV!

All games work fine in Windows 7 64bit.

Mechcommander Gold works (visit the site to get a W7 installer that works fine)

Mechcommander 2 has the story and pilot interaction if you have the CD.

MW3 so far only works properly on Nvidia cards. AMD users cannot play it properly.

All MW4 games work fine, including the MekTek one.

GOG.com releases all of their games with the necessary patches to run them on modern systems.

1. Mech commander gold is doesn't run at all like MW2, it's a different animal all together.

2. I have an AMD processor and an nvidia card, you mean ATI cards.

And 3, you're a ******* moron.

Running MW2 is clumsy at best and things just become more difficult on 64, so far I cannot advance past the first mission as it crashes each time. Also Missiles for whatever reason explode when leaving the missile rack, so you die trying to shoot them.

MechVM is a neat little tool, but without a specific version of a MW2 disc you're usually SOL.

MW3 literally has no issues aside from bouncing APC's and the completely random JJ's on Piratesmoon.

Everyone said the same thing about Steam's Thief Gold release, I had to fix that myself, 8 times even.

The biggest issue was their placing of directories, making them too long for memory, killing end mission cutscene and preventing players from advancing.

I'm not comparing MW2 or MCX - please read properly.

To run MCX, go to this site: http://mechcommander.co.uk/index/

And download the Mechcommander Gold installer, which works all the way up to Windows 8. If you can't find the damn link, here it is: http://mechcommander.../forum/3037130/

AMD bought ATI over a year ago. Please get with the times. You may have an ATI card, but the last couple of generations of GPUs, AMD cards no longer have the necessary hardware to make MW3 run properly.

Grow up and cease the hostility. Speaking properly and acting like an adult would help you immensely when talking with other people.

There's something wrong with your install. Patch the game to version 1.1. if you haven't already.

That's because of your CPU speed. MechVM adresses this issue. If you still can't get it to work, use Dosbox and set the proper settings to have the game speed set to normal.

The CD itself states which version you have, be it W95, Dos, Titanium, or 3DFX version. Even MechVM specifies which CD version you have in your drive.

I was talking about running the game on a AMD card, as they have issues running MW3 properly.

In the interest of civil discourse, and providing an excuse to bump this thread, how have people managed to get MW3 running on a modern Windows 7 PC? I have an nvidia card, but I get flickering graphics, the speed of the simulation literally fluctuates when I'm in a mission, and I frequently crash to the desktop.

Yeah, I'd like some civility as well. I don't know what the hell happened with ConnorSinclair's unprovoked attack.

Try setting the compatibility of the game to Windows 95 or NT. Also, this setup utility might help you a bit in installing and patching the game properly: http://www.mechwarri...opic.php?t=1915

I've already upvoted MechWarrior 2 and 3 on their site to get the updated for newer systems treatment. I'm sure if any company can do it, GoG can update MW's software to be compatible on modern hardware. There's no harm in trying. I'll keep bumping this thread, I'd love to see the entire MWO community band together on this one and make it happen! If every person signed up for the forums upvoted MW2 and 3, they'd rise to the number 1 and 2 spots 4x over of most voted for games.

Thanks for the suggestion. Seems to be a little more stable, though the high quality mech textures seem to be missing, and zoom seems to be constantly switching itself on and off (you can see it flicker in the center of the targeting reticule, but never expands to full size). It's a step in the right direction though. Time to start tinkering with graphics settings...

edit: ok, there's a thread about the flickering reticule thing, but I can't look at it apparently because I'm not a member, and registrations for that forum aren't currently be handled. I don't suppose anyone wants to follow this link and tell me what it says? http://www.mechwarri...opic.php&t=4559

Seeing as System Shock 2 just got the GoG treatment (being the most requested game in the history of ever on GoG), now is a great time for us MechWarriors to vote up MechWarrior 2 and 3 to get the same treatment!

Upvoted. I would love to play through Pirates' Moon/MW3 and finish mech commander. I don't have the CDs, and I'm not interested in pirating/etc, so it would be great to see GOG get approval to re-release them and clean them up for easy installation/compatibility.

The original mech commander was available for free download (legally) a few years ago, as I recall. Not sure what its current status is. The real trouble with MW3 is the compatibility, though. I have both the CDs, but no matter what I try, there are just too many glitches for it too be enjoyable. What I really need to do is find some custom computer shop, and get them to build me a late 90s gaming machine running Windows 98.

edit: OK, I'm a fool. MacKoga - thank you so much for mentioning Pirates' Moon. This whole time I'd actually only been trying the original MW3, and as I said, really not having much success. I guess I'd sort of assumed Pirates' Moon wouldn't be any better, but I just dug the CD out of the drawer it had been hiding in, installed it, and so far it's been vastly more stable. I still really want to get the original working for the single player campaign, which was just perfect, but this should tide me over for awhile.
