I had a new player accuse me of using aimbot once, said there was NO WAY my missles could always be hitting him while we were dog fighting.

Ahh... Sometimes using streaks can be fun...

I kind of agree, however there are exceptions. Once, I was playing my dual gauss kitty in caustic. I peered over the ridge, and see a target. Later I find it is a Gauss hunchie. I immediately fire, and hit it in the CT. He fires back about the same time, hitting me in the head. I back off quickly, thinking he is a good shot. A minute later, I pop my head again. Immediately, he fires. Direct hit to the head. I back off again. Later, he hits me in the head a third time, killing me. All of this happened at ~600-700 meters. I am not a newbie, I have made over 300 drops in this mech. That guy was cheating. I called him out for it, and he said nothing. However, some guy on his team says for me to stop crying and grow up. Really? Calling aimbot for this kind of thing is the right thing to do.

Is the above post serious? Sarcasm can be hard to penetrate through on the internet.

I'd say 90% of the head shots on me is because I can say "yes" to two out of the three following questions.

Am I in a Catapult while facing the enemy?
Am I trying to look over a ridge?
Is my angular velocity to the enemy mech 0 rads/sec?

The other 10% I consider a somewhat lucky shot and will sometimes say "nice head shot" in chat.

I rage far too easily. Last night, a hunchback oneshotted my centurion with an AC/20; hit the cockpit, the 2 damage bled through and blew the ammo I put there.
I didn't get a chance to tell him it was a nice shot, I just ******* about it.

4 PPC build closing to 200m, that is probably the first thing that set off a red flag. Many players would worry that getting so close to the enemy with a mech that cannot maintain sustained fire, and has a minimum range of 90 is a bit risky, and unorthodox, unless that player can grantee themselves an instant kill, knowing they can overheat shutdown and be ready when the next enemy arrives. Raven only moving 40-50 kph while scouting the enemy ridge-line... that doesn't sound right either. The Raven had to know the entire enemy team was behind the ridge so moving 40kph would be suicide. Plus you indicated that this player was a member of a “clan” (or merc company) and therefore part of an organized drop group. Not an inexperienced player dropping for the first time. Normally I dismiss aimbot accusation as unfounded, but your preemptive defense against a player that hasn’t even made an accusation is suspicious. I think this is the reason some defense lawyers are hesitant to put their clients on the stand, they do more damage to their credibility than the prosecution. At this point I’m inclined to believe the unnamed accuser. You probably are using an aimbot and should be ashamed of yourself.

I never said I *only* had 4 PPCs. I've killed quite a few mechs with the SRMs on the mech as well. I can do 2 volleys with the PPCs and not shut down, so I know that if I miss I can still back out. Plus he was busy, fully focused on the hunchie he was circling.

Yes, he was moving that slow, because he was a poor player. You really think he would have the proper situational awareness if he doesn't even know that speed is his best defense? Nah, he was a poor pilot.

He was the one who started crying about his "clan" though that might all be B.S.

As for the accusations, I've never needed, never want an aimbot. My actual preferred mech is a gaussapult, and so far have 52 running Jenner kills in it. Practice makes perfect and gives skill. Who the heck needs an aimbot then? :P

Framework for MWO exists. The pace of this game is such that aimbot does not provide as much of an upper hand as in other games however.

You know you are doing it right when you get accused of using an aimbot. I got called that by someone I killed in a Catapult when he shut down in front me, 20m away, and I put 2 erppcs and gauss round into his cockpit. Yeah, because it's like SO hard to hit the cockpit of a shutdown Catapult at 20m...gotta be using an aimbot!

Why fire the PPCs and take the heat when you are inside 90m? The gauss alone should have been adequate.

he said erppc, those don't have a minimum range. And one gauss round would do 15 dmg, not even enough to chew through armor (18) let alone take out the internals (another 15 points).

Aimbots...pfft.

Quite possible that they exist, but the most likely scenario is that your opponent is just a good shot.

If MW:O were as rife with hacks as the Arma2 mod DayZ, I'd understand some of the "OMG HAX" accusations since in that game, it's actually a very plausible scenario. :/

Probably why I play more MW:O than I do DayZ :P

Or, more simply put: "To be bloody damn sure he's dead".

I once got accused if being a lagshield hunchback. Not my fault you can't hit me at 97kph.

Um, HBK's cap out at 92.7kph with speed tweak using the heaviest engine which is a 260 (STD/XL). Unless off course you're talking during CB.

I've seen a lot of people I'd accuse of using a "**** piloting" bot, and I've been in 4 man premades that were accused of "hacking". Considering how **** I am at aiming, I always found it laughable.

Honestly, just today I snuck up on a hunchback, in an atlas and cored him in two salvos, shot straight into his back (even for a Guy like me, aiming is easy when your target is just standing there like an *****). Some people are just terrible, and a portion of those just don't want to admit it. They'd rather invent fantasy hackers that can cheat at a game with amazing bots, rather then say to themselves, "Holy ****! I keep dying because I am terrible!"

...

PGI is using the Crysis engine, one of the most hacked engines around.

Yes, there are aimbots for it, and some have already been modified for use with this game.

As netcode improves, so will the use of aimbot as it will as a matter of course become more effective.

I guess it's a good thing I didn't say they didn't exist then, yeah?

Pardon me for not being one of those guys with a huge paranoia regarding a few hacks in a game that really don't seem that prevalent and/or hugely game breaking for the moment.

If they get out of hand and become exceptionally noticeable, then my tune will change. Until then I'll continue to assume that most of the whining about hacks is from people that are just mad they got outplayed.

Possibly right now a majority of it is that.

However, when you take a headshot immediately upon your head cresting a hill, or turning a corner, then you see 3 or 4 team mates die via head shot all from the same guass carrying mech from 1200+ meters away... Well, suspicions will be raised.

Aimbots exist but they are EXTREMELY uncommon. I would say I've seen it exactly once in 860 games.

I had my cockpit shot out while at a full run 130 kph over rough terrain and then had the good luck to warp into the next victim who died in seconds and the next and the next. I got to watch 4 successive cockpit shots about 5-6 seconds apart all from a single opponent as my team died in about 20-25 seconds.

But we players are not good policemen. The keepers of the ban hammer could easily find inhuman behavior with just a little bit of game statistics. Store the source and destination movement and facing vectors as well as the weapon type and range. Inhuman behavior would rise to the top like foam on a latte. But we would never know that it is happening. It could be ongoing right now. I'd guess they are already doing something because rampant cheating kills entire franchises and what I'm seeing is an near zero amount of "hinky" games.
