It's called Headshot. Most armor on a cockpit is 18. Get through that and you most likely crit klill them. So any shot that does more than 18 damage and hits the cockpit is able to kill the mech right away. There are people that can aim that good. Just deal with it like I do.

It's called situational awareness. Others can spot you, not just your follower, so your triangle stays on the map and your follower can ... well ... keep following. Also when you know the maps you know there's only so many ways to run and places to go. Not hard to make educated guesses on what way your target went to get away.

 I often get shot at by PPC bursts "out of nothing", the shot seems to come from a totally empty spot in the distance, simply because on very low graphics settings the firing mech isnt displayed at all or its heat signature is so pale and small, that you dont have a chance to hit it. Still, this guy manages to see me AND hit my torso center...on every shot...jesus christ...i move out of cover, he hits me in the center torso...i go back...i go out again...bam...next hit...I stay out of cover...i die by another two hits...stupid to try this, sure...u have to find another way...but it should just show how "unfair" playing conditions can be within the same game... bad if you cant rely on a team that will go around the sniper, suppress him, shoot missiles at him, send out 2 ravens or similar...
