Why would someone dislike the clans, I can't imagine why. I try to use the clan culture in all aspects of my life.

Like a few days ago I asked this girl out and she said "no ur creepy" so I told her that I wanted a trial of refusal. I knocked out her front teeth and broke a few of her ribs, I told her that every time she disagrees with me I am going to do it again. So we are going out now and I couldn't be happier.

I can't imagine why people would dislike the clans.

Well if you're RPing that you're a Clanner, then of course you'd have to defend it - because that's what your 'character' believes.

That's fine. If you want to RP as a sibling nailing space furry 'ww2 axis leader' then more power to you. Hell I like you.

Canon notes that many worlds had trouble securing even basics like water.

Sure it notes that. But it doesn't add up with the numbers. You cannot feed an average population of 3025 IS levels when you lack such basic technology.

I can simply crunch the numbers and calculate that the average Inner Sphere citizen had a 1 in 60,000 chance of dying in the 4th Succession War. So the simple math answers how dangerous war in the IS is in the 3020s: Not very.

Even the previous Succession Wars have to be seen in context: If "hundreds of billions" died, that was about 10% of the Inner Sphere population. Which is in the same ballpark of the losses in WW2 by some of the harder hit countries (such as Germany, which lost 8-10% of its population.) Only that the losses of WW2 occured over just six years, and the losses of the Succession Wars occurred over centuries, lessening their impact a lot. In fact, seeing it like this, the Succession War era was far less bloody and warlike than, say, Earth's 20th century.

But what all this simply boils down to is the old problem: BattleTech writers really, really have no freakin' sense of scale!

You do realize that Feudal Lords and Royalty are renown for inbreeding right? Indeed if you look at a lot of family lineages you see a lot of Steiners, Davions, and Liaos hooking up with a lot of Steiners, Davions and Liaos.

At least the Clans have made genetic modification a science, meaning they have greatly reduced the chances of negative mutations arising to near zero. Like I said, the feudal system is not the Renaissance Fair you seem to think it is.

Where did I say I any of that? This thread is about the clans. We need a new one if you want to discuss why the Inner Sphere is a terrible place that makes no sense.

Wait... why would someone need to defend something their character believes, OOC? I think someone doesn't understand role-playing 101. :P

Dont have problems with clans. Dont like clans players much since many of them tend to be douchebugs - not like IS dont have them but still.

Yeah I dealt with them on the Clan Forums of the Classic Battletech game. Everyone in the forum is pretty much that way in general, which is probably why there has not been a Mechwarrior game in 10 years. I wonder if they like it that way because then they have less competition (hey if you can't beat them---ban them!).

Also the writers, etc encourage them, and then wonder why nobody wants to deal with them.

Anyways, huge debate on over whether the "Crusade" aka "Operation Revival" was feasible. They insisted it was, despite the fact that Clans would be outnumbered basically 6-1 because "One Cluster can defeat a Regiment"--a Cluster is roughly 25 Clan Mechs, an Inner Sphere Regiment is roughly 108 Mechs.

After reviewing the numbers, including the fact that FedCom alone had 256 Regiments ( I was asked where I got this number, I was also THEN told, as a matter of forum policy I cannot give links to outside sources---so basically the players were allowed to imply I was lying unless I gave them the source while the mods then said if I presented a source I would get in trouble, total BS) ----so it degenerated into claims that a single Clan Cluster can now beat 5 or 6 Regiments.

That's right, they claimed 25 Clan Mechs can beat roughly 500 Inner Sphere Mechs. And this did not include Comstar, Mercs, hidden planets like Jardine, Vehicular Regiments (which outnumber Mech regiments in the IS 3 fold) and Infantry.

Then there was the fact that the Clans were already losing to Inner Sphere tricks at Twycross and Wolcott, and then the fact that in the two large scale engagements they faced- Luthien and Tukkayid, the Clans lost.

Overall, it seemed like they were almost method posting, and not even as Clanners but some sort of cartoonish version of a Clanner,

The actual Clans in fiction/lore do have a sense of nobility to them, and their civilians have a higher quality of life. The people role-playing Clans? Well we'll just say on the forums for 11+ pages they were talking about how I was gonna lose a big match to one of their main players, getting very, very vicious in their rhetoric, and when I won my victory was attributed to "luck". And they never apologized nor even recognized the fact that I beat their front-man player even though they were 11 pages sure that guy would win.

And I won with 3 Mechs left over (one was badly damaged, and the enemy had a light Mech at the end which retreated). Am I trying to gloat? Not necessarily, but the fact is they had no sense of grace at all about my victory, even though they insulted me for 11 pages straight because they were so sure I was going to lose to their "experienced player". During these 11+ pages they got as nasty as a human being can get, all they did for all 11 pages was insult me, tell me I was gonna lose, tell me how bad I was gonna lose, tell me how bad it was gonna suck, curse, insult, followed by more cursing and more insulting sprinkled with various derogatory remarks. Shows the kind of people they are.

BTW I won with Inner Sphere Tech and Pilots vs fully upgraded Manei Domini in Celestial Series OmniMechs. This is why they were so 110% sure of my defeat and willing to super-croak about it ahead of time. You would think they'd then be equally enthusiastic when I won, but no way, I got a 2 week ban instead under pretext.

Basically they love to role-play as Clanner, but in real life they are as cowardly and dishonorable as they come.

And oh yeah I won because of a "lucky shot", never mind one of my Mechs also died of over-heating without doing a single point of damage (basically cancelling out my lucky shot. ) The player cried I won cause of luck, I'm sure if it had been the other way around, and I whined I lost cause of luck they would have been totally merciful.

I don't dislike clans, in fact if there was a guild or clan system in game I would most likely join one but there is not, so I have not. :)

They murdered less people then the Successor States, and their civilians live a higher quality of life, their civilians are not as effected by wars, and their women are incredibly hot (genetic engineering does have its good points. )

Do not confuse Lore Clan with Clan Players. Lore Clan are honorable and have a sense of nobility. Clan Players are usually the lowest rung of the ladder in terms of decency and honor. Like I said, even after losing a game they do not concede a darn thing like an actual Clanner will but qq to the mods and blame their defeat on luck.

Those are just the typical bottom feeders of any community. You can find them in any faction. I've played with both sides for years and I see equal amounts of negativity in the player-base.
