The clans do not allow cloning of genetic legacies (it has happened, but in secret, and if found out, those individuals would have been put to death). Trueborn warriors are akin to artificial insemination taken to the extreme, where two notable bloodnamed warriors in the past have their genetics mixed by the scientists and desirable traits are picked (more like genetic engineering). To achieve a bloodname to the clans allows that warriors genes to be used in the clan genetic breeding program, and amount of bloodnamed warriors are limited (one has to die before another that can claim genetic lineage may fight to claim said bloodname) The bloodnamed warriors of their respective clan form the ruling council for that clan, and the elected Khans formthe grand council of the clans. Being bloodnamed is not so much religion as it is the path to power and influence within the clans, as well as the right to "procreate" in the clan way.

after a short reread you are right, but as for my view of whether it is political or religious stands, why go through all of that to preserve the legacy of a soldier. I am not looking at what being blood named does for the person, but the act of blood naming warriors in general. the entire thing looks like and feels like a way to immortalize their ancestors, effectively keeping them alive past death, which falls into religious territory

This is actually not Clan behavior. The Clans put no effort into pair bonding because their society was based on eugenics (both genetic engineering and traditional picked pairs) so courtship didn't exist. If you were a Clansman you would have simply walked up to her and asked "would you like to spend the night with me tonight, quiaff?" :)

Nerds love to imagine societies based on casual sex. ;)

the clans aren't smart, their eugenics program obviously is all brawn and no brain. They let everyone know their villanary, giving them no support. This is especially true to the Smoke Jags who had no allies during operation bulldog (except for clan diamond shark but their efforts to reinforce smoke jag was stopped by khan vlad ward of clan wolf)

the FWL is smart. A secret Comstar state ruled under the guise of a democracy but is under martial law.. Nice :)

I would like them a lot more if the mechs didn't look so ugly, blocky lego bricks and shiny plastic. I want mechs to look and feel like huge stompy battle worn robots.

From a psychological standpoint, the change from Inner Sphere culture to clans over ~300 years in isolation and regret (at leaving the Inner Sphere) is quite plausible. For me I love the look of their mechs as well. Something about the aesthetics appeals to me and I think Alex Iglesias did a great job on them.
From my observation, Clan tech isn't neccesarily superior. I find in a duel, if no mistakes are made, the better player will usually win, regardless of being Inner Sphere or Clan. Laser duration being longer and autocannons being less precise (especially against laterally moving targets) for clans brings them down a notch. LIghter and smaller weapons are definitely an advantage but so is the 1N Dragon's AC5 recycle time. Sometimes I have to remind myself that sometimes it'll appear that an IS mech is overpowering to me, but the pilot is probably just better or had better positioning. This probably works both ways.

I'm just happy that Hellbringer and Summoner look like themselves again *coughs* mech 4.

MArik level of messed up. The Only unit from Marik that got it's own book ((books?)) The Knights of the Inner Sphere all get gassed to death in the opening rounds of the Jihad.

That's how much the writers hate Marik. When they aren't ignoring them, they are putting down the only thing people got to read about them.

Oh I think the novels & sourcebooks says the Clans ARE smart, rendering your point of view moot. Have a good day. :D

Why I hate the clans: Stormcrows.

I don't hate the clans, per-se. I hate fighting them with IS mechs in CW. Specifically I think stormcrows are one of the best mechs in the game. Good amount of armor, good speed, good bit of firepower, relatively low weight. I'm sick of seeing several 12 mech waves of stormcrows in matches, and quite honestly, I'm not sure what to do to counter the Stormcrow rush, which is becoming quite common.

Hold up there, necromancer. You're resurrecting a thread that's been dead for five months. I grant it's a popular one since, you know, everyone wants to make their opinion heard, but it would have been nice to let this one lie.

To answer the topic of the thread.

When the Clans were released on the Table Top game they were insanely overpowered and the Point cost for didn't match just how good they were. As such they attracted the win at any cost, poor sports, power gaming, I don't care if you have fun I'm going to crush you, people who were not actually interested in a fun gaming experience.

After several years and multiple tweaks to the Battle Point system things balanced out, but people still had a nasty taste in their mouth from the previous parts.

Like.. say they released a game called "Chess" it plays like what we think of as chess, but the black side's bishops also can move like rooks and their king can move 1 OR 2 spaces in every direction. People who favor the white side for lore reasons go "Hey that's not right, this game is unbalanced this way." and the people playing the black side go... "Learn to play nubs!" After a few years of this the game makers release a correction to the game and make both sides pieces have the same powers. Suddenly the game gets much more fair.

Oddly enough nobody could ever prove anything using genetic testing and the like. It's almost like Uncle Chandy lied to get the Clans to help against the WoBies.

I always think of it like this....

The Inner Sphere is the collection of city-states that make up the ancient Greek peninsula, and the Clans are the Persian Empire. Now, the Greek city-states were all happy with the world they had, warring against each other when the weather permitted, it wall all good fun. Then these punk Persians had to come along and try to invade.

"What?! Clans? Ah, Hell no, Bro! THIS...IS...INNER SPHERE"

Why do i hate Clanners ? Well...

let me disclose that i am a citizen of the periphery fighting for the nearest Inner Sphere state, once our sworn enemies.
The reason many periphery citizens hated the Inner Sphere was that they and the Terran Hegemony (later: SLDF) assaulted peaceful periphery places like New Vandenberg in the Taurian Concordacy and massacred the people there - not the military, but the people - in orbital bombardements. Leading amongst these was the traitor Aleksandr Kerensky. May the gods hang his sorry behind on a maintainance crane some time. That sorry wretch of a botched role model then showed his integrity by breaking oath and fleeing with a gang of deserters to the deep periphery, while upright periphery citizens kept dying. He wrecked the entire inner sphere with the infighting he started. I`ld rather have one of the cursed House Amaris peeing on the Cameron`s Terran Throne then a Clanner sitting there, any day. And now, after 300 years of not giving a **** about the affairs of the Periphery States and the Inner Sphere a bunch of genetically engineered Aliens come back and want to show us how to run the place they deserted ? A feudally dominated eugenics caste system that stomps on freedom loving bandits and outworlders wherever it finds them ? And you want us to love them ?

I`ld rather let them capture me, so i can smash their sleeping skulls with a monkey wrench. Until then, im happily raiding their woefully unprotected supply lines and putting the "free" into freebirth.
(And saying this i am quite sure that any Taurian, Canopian, Outworlder, Marian or Lothian - or even Pirate State citizen - will support this. F... the Clans, F... Kerensky, F... the SLDF. Go away, leave us alone.)

If it was for me, the Steiner fist needed a extended finger, just for the Clans.

"Best" of wishes,
Fat Jack Murphy,
the less successful cousin of Red Jack Ryan
