Wow... this thread... I'm really speechless. Sometimes I read a thread and think.. if the devs read this and take these suggestions, then I'll definitely not be playing this game in a few months...

Have ya'll really just spent 2 pages comparing a hunchback to a cataphract and dragon? Cataphracts have 20 tons on a hunchie. It is not supposed to be comparable. If you were suggesting 8 man premade queues should have a weight limit, I could understand your concerns that a Hunchback has no roll in a premade group compared to a Dragon, but you are suggesting that a 50 ton mech should equal a 70 ton mech, which is just quite frankly, totally insane. Anyone who suggested this, please, uninstall the internet and turn in your keyboard, you have lost your privileges.

Eh? It's not that they should be equals, it's only that they should have SOME advantage in my suggestion that is a slight but noticable speed advantage.

Medium advantages are supposed to play out in more subtle ways.

At some point the Dev's said something about Ice in maps like Snow Valley causing assaults and heavy mechs to 'slide' and be harder to control than smaller mechs, the more tonnage, the more you would slip before you could come to a halt.

Medium mechs should be more maneuverable, if not faster, in close quarters city fighting it matter less what your top speed is a more how quickly you can go from full forward to full reverse.

Smaller hitbox can save you damage as well... though sometimes I feel the size between weight class is a little too similar. The Cataphrart doesn't feel like it's as much of a bigger target than the hunchback as I would expect... nor the stalker look that much bigger than a catapult on screen (yeah I know... it's largely the missile pods fault on that one)

Better acceleration, faster turning speeds, faster torso twist, greater ranger on where you can shoot with torso twist+arms... These things matter. This is the type of stuff they are going to tweak chassis by chassis starting this month, and it's going to be where mediums see a lot of their advantages.

Hunchbacks we're supposed to be like, inner city fighters right? lots of cover around, too tight spaces to make use of great speed, but the ability to ambush from around a corner do massive damage and then duck back behind the building is powerful.

I really think that the Cent extra arm that is BUILT like a sheild ought to have some kind of bonus to absorbing damage as well. The Mech was meant to escort and defend other mechs, being able to take hits for them on a shield that isn't just making you die faster instead would be cool.

Uncoupling maneuverability a little from engine size might help yes, but....how does the Centurion arm not work like that? There's nothing in it, and if you put it between your torso and the enemy guns that's damage that's not hitting your torso.

Your still spending 1 for 1 weight to armor points on it as you would for any other mech. It does function as a shield right now, but it would give the mech a nitch if it functioned as a more effective shield in exchange for that lack of hardpoints. Right now it's only about as good of one as any other mech where you didn't happen to put weapons in that arm.

Shield hardpoints, perhaps?
