Locust, Phoenix Hawk or Shadowhawk, Warhammer or Marauder, followed by Atlas or Banshee. - hmm almost the same mech loadout as Grey Deth.

If light 'mechs were the place to start for all new players, I'd say a Koshi for Clan and a Commando for IS/Houses

well i like your idea but the Atlas for starting is a little much to ask for dont you think especially being a assault mech, I really think that this game needs in order to capture more audience with this game is to incorporate more of Tech selection and buying system running along the lines of EVE not so much the game play but yes i think that it would be wise to let the player decide but lets face it there would be no real fun in the game if every player got the Mech he or she Really wants people just starting out and learning what MechWarrior is really about (because most Kids now a days really dont Know what the hell MechWarrior is.) so they would spend most their time getting their butts handed to them by some vet in a Atlas so i think that to give a wide but limited none the less selection of mechs but the yes i still agree if there is to be a Assault class the Atlas is the one to go with

Well how about no one can be the clans and that we are all innersphere going up against the npc clans. That will ensure that there is no one sided or munchkinism going on. The only time people can play the clans is when the innersphere is invading clan space. It will help make sure that a level of fairness and no one getting ganged up once the game is released. We can only choose innersphere mechs at release of game. Just a thought. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers with this thought.

I think it would be interesting if they implemented a faction setup. If you are FA you get the choice of purchasing or piloting mechs that they have at their disposal. Same goes for any of the other alliances. If you are mercenary the mech selection should be less because that system is supply and demand, and most of the mechs are either old, stolen, or damaged in some way. If you are Lone Wolfing it, your mech selection should be very restricted and or restricted to one mech. Really though that would not happen. Being restricted to one mech would be horrible especially if the person didn't know which mech they would like.

3053, that's still relatively short compared to the other mechs.

Well, do you consider invading the OZ's a invasion of Clan space? That has happened a few times early on (the IS got slaughtered though). And would this also entail Operation Bulldog?

I personally think that it would be a waste to not be able to play as a Clan warrior as soon as atleast Tukayyid. I'd also be cool with the Refusal War (though the 8 year wait is rather long).

Fear not, there are still many alternatives, like the following mechs:
Griffin
Kintaro (if you can get your hands on one)
Phoenix Hawk
Dervish
Shadow Hawk

I'd personally go for a Phoenix Hawk, but I think that a Shadow Hawk would be closer to the Bushwacker.

I think I would want to start in a dervish. It's a nice maneuverable mech capable of doing everything from scouting to fire support. Good mech to find your role in.

I'd want to start in a Jenner. It's cheap, fast, jumps, is known to be a playable Mech (which is important), and the quad medium lasers packs the same one-shot punch as a Hunchie's cannon.
