it seems this should be able to be added with very little work. use the same maps as assault, just remove the cap ability, you don't even have to remove the base, only the ability to cap. The capture the flag game mode we have now has its place, but I hate its 1 of the 2 only game modes

We need a straight TDM, without capping.

It's in, called Assault mode. They just added a qualifier to stop a powered-down Spider in some inaccessable-without-15-JJs-nook from dragging a loosing game out to time.

Just put a single cap in the middle of the map that resets whenever it is unoccupied or when a friendly is capping and a hostile steps in.

So what? Your likes shouldn't dictate whats available in the game. Literally no one said you wouldn't still be able to play objective modes, some of us just want to fight from time to time. Deal with it and stop acting like lord of the game modes.

Yeah except people still base rush and games end without a single mech dying. So Assault mode is clearly flawed.

Oh god! 90% of assault matches (and you can choose to play just these) are team deathmatch already. The creation of "true" TDM should be so low on the list of planned features that even the keenest reader just gives a TL;DR when seeing it. :(

Yeah, we are supposed to be on the battlefields of the Inner Sphere, not a 24/7 Solaris arena.

Let's capture dropships, scout HPG's, go on patrols, and defend factories.

Are you talking about TDM with respawns? Otherwise TDM is already in (with the option to end a game before finding the last hiding opponent).

I'd love a TDM option. Those stupid cap areas are just there to tempt some ***** on my team to split from the group in a desperate attempt to... crash the entire map for everyone.

That's right, just when you're doing what that game is supposed to be about (mech combat), suddenly everything freezes and everyone gets kicked back to the mech lab. The game tells me my team won, but that's a lie. The only thing that happened is I got kicked out of a potentially good match. Everyone lost.

Sure, the cap provides a solution to that last near-death Light mech running off and hiding. But there's gotta be a better way to deal with that particular problem. There really shouldn't be a way to cap while most mechs are still up and undamaged.

My apologies if it seemed like I want to dictate what modes should and should not be. I was merely trying to express that with the way matches currently go TDM is redundant most of the time and that I like having options that encourage teamwork. The two seem to blur together now that I reread it.

Combat is more than shooting. Once you realize that you realize how silly and boring TDM is. I wish we had MORE objectives than "stand over here" but I'll take that one objective over no objective. Kill the other team is an implicit objective in a FPS.
