The social aspect of this game is a little confusing to me, since most of the time people only say "GL HF" or they're trolling. I wouldn't mind joining a group of people on vent or something similar instead of just grinding pug after pug after pug.... or is this all there is?
Also these colored banners that some people have instead of the silhouette of a head... founder banners? How do you get those?

you can look here for a group or clan.
and founders isn't available anymore.
it was only available for a specific period when the game came out first.
so people like you and me will never get founders, just tough luck.

But ya, ultimately you will want to join a clan.

Comstar NA and the No Guts No Galaxy server (Outreach) come recommended.

The game right now doesn't support organized games. Only way to scrim is to sync drop, so joining a clan right now isn't important except for pubstomps.

We're recruiting, and we usually have people playing. The game is much more enjoyable when playing with friends, and it's a whole different game when you're playing with a group of 8 - you only drop against other groups of 8, and everyone uses TEAMWORK. It's brilliant!
Instructions on getting on our mumble and otherwise being recruited by us can be found here.

Besides, the Clans haven't really revealed themselves yet, though their dastardly invasion plans have commenced already.

The ironic thing about this post is that Hanse and Melissa have been married 22 years, Katrina has been dead almost 10 years, and yet we still speak of House Davion or House Steiner. At this point in BT history, there is only the "Federated Commonwealth" and Hanse rules it. Once the Clans make their appearance (actually they have at least in the Periphery), it will be time to choose your side, we have a little over a month to wait.......
To the OP, try to master one mech of each size. You started with Heavies, so you might want to try mediums next. Learn which class you like.

My comments were for Levi, you should understand Battletech has a very rich and detailed history, there are some people who know it by heart. In BT parlance you would be looking to join a 'corps' most likely, and you might want to wait until we have a bit more info about community warfare before you decide. The suggestion to get on the Comstar or NGNG servers and meet others is a good one.
