OK so I've been playing for a couple of weeks, bought the Fang and the Flame and another dragon just to get them both up to Master level. Now what? Join a guild/clan?

The social aspect of this game is a little confusing to me, since most of the time people only say "GL HF" or they're trolling. I wouldn't mind joining a group of people on vent or something similar instead of just grinding pug after pug after pug.... or is this all there is?

Also these colored banners that some people have instead of the silhouette of a head... founder banners? How do you get those?

you can look here for a group or clan.

and founders isn't available anymore.
it was only available for a specific period when the game came out first.
so people like you and me will never get founders, just tough luck.

Buy some mech bays and master more chassis.

But ya, ultimately you will want to join a clan.

Try other mechs too. Since you're a fellow Dragon lover, try the Centurion and the Cataphract. Both have somewhat similar weapons hardpoints to a Dragon just different in weight so you can do things a bit different with each.

Master three chassis in every weight class so that you only have to get the basics done for any other different mech in that weight class before you can do elites and master, saves alot of time grinding away the useless variants you had to buy just to get to mastery. Look into the faction and outreach channels and look for a merc unit that looks like it would be a good fit for you.

Get on Teamspeak! Meet new people.

Comstar NA and the No Guts No Galaxy server (Outreach) come recommended.

Try to master at least one of each class. I guess atlases are a good second for you.

The game right now doesn't support organized games. Only way to scrim is to sync drop, so joining a clan right now isn't important except for pubstomps.

We're recruiting, and we usually have people playing. The game is much more enjoyable when playing with friends, and it's a whole different game when you're playing with a group of 8 - you only drop against other groups of 8, and everyone uses TEAMWORK. It's brilliant!

Instructions on getting on our mumble and otherwise being recruited by us can be found here.

As a meme fan I like this... except for the colors one, that's a waste of $300+ ;)

Don't join a Clan. The Clans are evil. Join a House (but not Liao or Kurita or Marik, since they are either evil or ineffectual). Or, if you aren't willing to be a true Davion patriot (or FRR or Steiner if you must), then by all means join a Mercenary Company. But don't join a Clan.

Besides, the Clans haven't really revealed themselves yet, though their dastardly invasion plans have commenced already.

The ironic thing about this post is that Hanse and Melissa have been married 22 years, Katrina has been dead almost 10 years, and yet we still speak of House Davion or House Steiner. At this point in BT history, there is only the "Federated Commonwealth" and Hanse rules it. Once the Clans make their appearance (actually they have at least in the Periphery), it will be time to choose your side, we have a little over a month to wait.......

To the OP, try to master one mech of each size. You started with Heavies, so you might want to try mediums next. Learn which class you like.

Easy fellahs, I meant "clan" as in "guild"... I just want a group of people to play with, I didn't mean to get into backstory politics :P

My comments were for Levi, you should understand Battletech has a very rich and detailed history, there are some people who know it by heart. In BT parlance you would be looking to join a 'corps' most likely, and you might want to wait until we have a bit more info about community warfare before you decide. The suggestion to get on the Comstar or NGNG servers and meet others is a good one.
