Yeah, that's the problem with people who want to use paper figures for combat effectiveness. DPS and Alpha mean all of nothing without things like range, cooldown, concentrated damage, etc. But hey kids the stats look real cool! And since they spend more times on forums than in game, I reckon talking a good fight is all that matters anyhow.

45 damage alpha spread over 3 torsos and an arm vs 30 damage alpha all to one spot? Hmmmm which would I rather have...

Considering the sheer number of useless LBX-10s I see on builds from these forums, I'm assuming the former.

vassago... no it doesn´t... it looks like someone who knows very well what he is doing, against 2 guys who absolutely DON´T!...

but i´ll take your comments and make this solution out of it: don´t allow skilled players to shoot noobs...

But if the good players can't farm the n00bs, then how will all the golds make their money?

More importantly, why is this more about me than the catapult?

Is it that obvious the problem is the cat, but you'd rather they not touch your toys, and rather discuss me, since I'm at least entertaining?

Well there is a lot of you here.

And I don't have a cat toy, so why would I fight to not nerf it? Oh yeah, cause its a silly idea to follow the flavor of the month with a nerf bat.

no you were answering to my comment on the video, completely arguing gainst the fact that standing still is a goddam bad idea in the first place... 2 moving targets would have been not such an easy deal, especially if those targets knew what they did as well... 2 kills from an experienced player against 2 abvious newbies is not a proof to nothing... i once had 3 kills in a row with an lb10x... nerf the lbx?

you were starting this argument, and now you say I AM talking about you? bit selfcentric, are we? :P

p.s. i wish i could properly use fraps...the duel between me and the poor srm6 A1yesterday would have made for a good counter against this minivid there :)

I just love the rich irony of the biggest pug farming golds in the game trying to rile up people by bashing pug farming golds. Of course, no one ever accused Vass of originality.

*Shrugs* Oh well, off to sleep for those of us with real jobs and such.

The srm should have a big spread then come together at about 180m, or some covergance point. That way splatapults can't just face rub while alphaing. This should apply to all weapons, the closer you are the less accurate it should be. For example, if you are less than 20m from an enemy, something fired from your upper torso and arm should not hit the same spot. The arm weapons can adjust but the torso weapons should be fixed. Thats why you would put weapons in the arms over your torso.

most aptly named topic ever.

boy when you guys flame on your beleifs you flame.

enjoyed some good matches by the way, with plenty of strong and dead catapults, surprised some people are still debating as i think the poll has proven most people would not want the cata touched.

continue flaming gentlemen :)

You forgot to mention that even losing ONE ear essentially makes the big bad BoomCat not so big and bad anymore. 2 Dual Gauss Volleys, and off goes ear. 2-3 seconds sustained AC fire from a Dakkaphract? Same. Ditto PPC mugging from Stalkers and Awesomes.

Gotta say their videos of Pug Harvesting are a nice propaganda touch, but not much else. Look, we found evidence of weapons of mass destruction! (Where have I heard that before.....?) Folks, if you haven't figured it out by now, feeding the trolls is a waste of time.

Bearing in mind that if you were that boomcat, you made the worst possible mistake in that build by moving alone into an area where you can be sniped. Does noob mistake count as a balancing factor? Especially considering most maps never force you out into the open. In a one on one duel? Sure, could go either way. But most matches are 8v8 chaos with low awareness and high cover, making ambush predators much more of an issue.

No, unless you work for IGP/PGI as a personal troll, you are not, in fact, working.

What you ARE doing is wasting your employer's money by slacking off and engaging in endless personal attacks.
I suppose you could be on break, but in that case you seem to have wasted it all on tailing after someone yelling insults and derailing a conversation.

Not sure which is the sadder scenario.

EDIT: I guess you could be freelance/self-employed, but even then, you're still on a "break"

noob mistake argument sorta cuts both ways, yes? (tis a reason I tend not to stroll down dark alleys in my gausskitty......)

While missile boating of SRMs and the SSRM's is a bit ridiculous, the silliness of the Dual AC/20 & Gauss with no increase of Torso size is just something that needs to be address.

No the K-2 shouldn't be 'nerfed' from those weapon loadouts. It just needs to have it's R/L Torso increased in size if it's going to be lugging around such massive guns.

Well, in my opinion the problem is more general and is about weapons convergence, the SRMs are unguided and unless the catapult is able to rotate its "ears" the unguided missiles should not be able to converge. Remove the 90 points of pinpoint damage at short distance and the A1 will no more be such a problem, it would be still able to cause a considerable damage but spread on the target (and that's how SRMs are supposed to work).

My solution would be more general:

Torso weapons: No convergence, the twin AC20 and the twin Gauss would be less of a problem. This could be coupled with a multiple reticles system showing where each torso weapon is going to hit. Each reticles could be shown as simple dots within the main square reticle.

Arm weapons with arm able to rotate: Able to converge but there would be a minimum distance for convergence (because without minimum convergence distance some mechs would be able to shot themselves through their torso, see the A1 or the Stalker).

Arm weapons with arms unable to rotate (Catapult): no convergence, guided missiles would have no problems, unguided missiles would not converge.

Sorry on salary and on call. Wrong on all the points.

Oh and thanks for calling me a troll and calling my work effort into question (I did just work 8 hours in the field and now have another 8 on call...)

As far as derailing the conversation; How is stating my opinion (that is bared out in the pole by the way) a derailment?

Why do you want to make the few good guns in the game bad? Cats would then boat anything else that's good.
That's what their hardpoints allow them to do.

Energy is really strong? Take a C1 or K2. Boat them to high heaven.
Ballistics are great? K2 lets you boat them, and they're almost untouchable in your side torsos.
Missiles!? Everything except K2 can use these.

And that´s the problem. It is an unintentional design feature that seperates the K2 from any other medium or heavy mech. Flames and Phracts can mount ballistics in their torsos, but they are vurnable because of their size. This design feature IS important: Big guns are in big hitboxes. Usually. The K2 breaks this rule and is seriously ******* on the IP of the Catapult..

But the side torsos are huge on a cat (from the side).

We need to Nerf the STK-3F !
36 Pinpoint Damage with its Lasers and 4 SRM6 launchers he is able to do FRICKING 300 Damage on my Mech.
And he runs 65 KPH too faster then any Dual AC/20 Pult every achieved. It's a Monster and kills me all the Time, please nerf it PGI Somehow, you nerfed the Streakcat and the Splatta Pult, now there is the STK-3F he is even worse then both of them, PLEASE NE...
Wait a minute..

Oh it's February not April... sorry i am a little Early, have to wait for the Splattapult Nerf in March for this rant
when the Closecombat Stalkers buiilds will get out of Hand.

The Problem is very simple: the Splattapults are beatable, they are very well known. Atm the Small Maps favour them, on Caustic Valley they have a realy bad time and die mostly without much damage done. Because there is fought mostly in Midrange. Before ECM the Splattapults had been no Issue at all, because we saw them comming and only on Rivercity they had been good all other Maps they had been in disadvantage. Now Colony they are at par with most Mech, FrozenCity and Rivercity they shine, on Caustic they have still big Problems. So the ECM improved them, and the lazyness of most players which never press R again. The Counter for Splattapults are LRM boats and Longrange/Midrange Weapons. LRM Boats got a Buff, Longrange/Midrange Weapons got a Buff. Nerfing the Splattapults will lend that the Crowd will move on to the next uber Build, and that will be the Closecombat Stalker. 310 Standard Engine and the think is a closecombat Monster with 17 Heatsinks and an Alpha of 96 which it can fire three Times before Overheat. And most of it is Pinpoint Damage made by Pulselasers.. and it got more Armor.

The only good Solution would be NERF ECM. As it will reduce the Maps a Splattapult will shine from 4 down to 2. And will give a Splattapult a Hard Time on 3 Maps not on only 1. As the Combat range will improve with a less powerfull ECM, which don't give everymech in the sorrounding a Bonus. As long as ECM boost ALL BRAWLERS, there will be ALWAYS A POWERFULL BRAWLER SETUP which will look OP. When you nerf the Splattapult, then there will be the Boomstalker, the DUALPhract etc etc..

Btw yes i mastered the 2K and the A1 but the A1 is a stupid Mech without room for improvement so i sold it, the 2K is funny to play but my stand for nearly 6 Weeks without an Engine in its Bay rusting. Didn't sold it but never used it again.

Well, you are always gonna have cheesebuilds as long as you have a mechlab.

Personally I'd like to have a option for a stock mode. All the min maxers can still build and complain about their rides, while others can play a more balanced game that is more in line with the universe it is set in.

It would also give new players with trial mechs a fair shot at making some C-Bills.
