If I may, I'd like to interject an opposing view here. You're not the internet public enemy #1 because you built a culture around watching what you want to watch. You're considered as such because the subject matter which you are dealing with, while good in theory, is handled inconsistent to how real life functions.

I agree that there should be little or no place for crude humor and vulgarity in entertainment, but there absolutely is a time for violence in real life. To suggest otherwise is to suggest that the best way to secure peace, be it individual or corporate, is to surrender your own rights to the demands of others. MLP, at it's core, is based around ideas which do not work in practice in the real world. The fundamentals are good, but they're intended for younger children who's moral compass is still in development, not adults who should already know how the world works, which is where a good deal of the derision originates.

Simply put, when you were a child you thought as a child, acted as a child and behaved as a child. Now that you've matured, you're expected to put away childish things and conduct yourselves as adults. To return again to childish things is to imply that you are nothing more than an immature manchild, not worthy of the respect of adults.

Being mature in action and hobby/interest are not highly correlated. A child can like nasacar/sports does not make them more mature than a kid that like... lets say Halo/CoD. Just like saying a person that loves to travel the world is more mature than a father playing tea time with his daughter.

What adults respect is completely up to them and their value system. As an example I might be from a culture that think grown men posting on the internet are man-children that live in their mom's basement, but then "respect" those guys on the Jersey Shore for being "manly".

I would say that most of the backlash from MLP:Bronies specifically is the use of image macros to segway threads into off topic discussion about the show. That's what happened on 4chan. Later on it became popular to bash Bronies as something that runs against the norm of testosterone fueled "manly" culture. Much like how we all bash on Justin Bieber, that Friday girl, Twilight fans etc.

On these boards specifically I think the bronies are well behaved. They keep their pony talking confined to this thread and the occasional merc company recruiting board.

Personally, I say let the haters hate, and bronies don't feed the parasprites.

I really dont care as long as they are serious players. I think it great to see people not taking all of this so seriously for once here. I mean, it is a game right? I think you missed the point of my previous post. It's not the fact that grown men have a somewhat unusual hobby, it's that the hobby (MLP) is designed for those individuals which are not yet mature themselves. To return, as a mature individual to an immature subject is unacceptable, no matter what the culture. Furthermore, you cannot claim cultural normalcy here as we're both from the same basic cultural background and in that culture, those who return to an immature hobby are seen as immature themselves, hence Bronies are seen as a perversion of the cultural norm.

Im not a brony but i think this whole pony madnesss is funny. If you see "pony-friends" as a perversion in your culture then something within your culture is the real problem. I mean these guys dont spam ponys all over the forum. They dont **** ponys in their freetime.

They just like a freakin TV-series.

They just mock about the seriousness of all those serious games and stuff that claims to be manly. And i love these trailers of Battletech and Space Marines.

If all this distubes you too much and you are still raging about bronys then dont read this thread any further or leave the internet because there are more perverse things here then mature guys that like ponys.

Sesambrot, you're right, your comment is a bit uncalled for. I was assuming Paladin1 was trying to play devil's advocate from the point of view of the mainstream.

I mean he can't really take the cultural maturity high road, while we're all posting on a board about a GIANT ROBOT VIDEO GAME.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm sort of of the opinion that the overstated nature of MLP as "For Girls" draws an unwelcome amount of attention to some people's own insecurites, making them lash out.

It's not like stuff like this has ever gotten into your battletech before.

Yes, unacceptable. As in, if you are a mature, well adjusted person in society you don't return to immature subject material. To do otherwise is regression instead of personal growth.

Furthermore, you seem to think that my comment about Bronies being seen as a perversion of the cultural norms was slanted towards a sexual reference. Please refer to my post again, as sexuality is not the topic but rather culturally acceptable activities. That was what I was referring back too, please reread my post again for reference.

Narrow-minded? Not hardly, just aware of what is considered a cultural norm and what is not. This could go either way. There are probably people arguing about building a culture around MechWarrior. Either way, as a Capellan who was serving under House Steiner before the second succession war, I promise you I most certainly will not blow up.
