End Game Suckage

My problems have come now twice at the end of the game where it is me and a single mech that's faster than I am. I get myself pounded into scrap and it is embarrassing mostly because I'm reading the annoying mocking of the already dead while try to circle and shoot the little ******.
My two chassis are a Stalker and a Flame for a different play style. The Stalker is a slow lumbering behemoth and I accept that reality. The damaged Flame on the other hand should have been able to take the damaged Spider nominally. I just suck. Is there a trick to the circle dance that I'm missing, or is it a case of "Do it more and you'll get better at it"?

those things are out of sync and you really need to shoot a good bit in front of them to do any damage.
Stalker is not a solo mech to a certain extent, the lack of speed turning makes it so.
Finishing the match in a 1v1 situation is a good thing, very hard to do normally its a steam roll

I finally managed to leg him after several minutes of tense circling, and then I backed off to try and get the kill shot. The Raven managed to crit out my last weapons, leaving me unarmed.
Circling and counter-circling can be tricky, especially if you have a low rated engine. The real key here is ANTICIPATING YOUR OPPONENT, getting a feel for when to stop tracking clockwise and start tracking counterclockwise to catch him on the next pass. Typically you want to throw it into full reverse if you are being circled, but you do need to try to make yourself unpredictable so you will need to occasionally vary your speed from full forward to full reverse, while also switching between tracking to follow and tracking to catch him on the next pass.

The dragon has a better chance, and it will come down to predicting what they will do. You have a better chance to catch them because you are faster, and you have arms that make weapon tracking a lot easier. It's really a battle of wits at that point.
Also, I find it best to aim for the legs (especially around the hips). If you get a leg, they are toast (usually).

If your opponent circles faster than you can turn / torso twist, either put your back to the wall, or turn in the opposite direction, or hit reverse and turn in the opposite direction (i.e. if the other guy is circling clockwise, you need to be moving counter-clockwise).

I have a STK-5M with medium pulse lasers and 26 tubes of SRM's, so I do, occassionally, get lucky.

The easiest thing I can say is to avoid circle dancing. If not possible, consider varying your speed. It's hard to circle someone who doesn't keep a perfect circle themselves.
When all else fails -- like in the stalker -- go in reverse. You turn MUCH faster due to your reduced speed (and the fact that by going in reverse, you are putting distance from your target rather than moving toward it).

To be clear, your turn rate depends on your throttle speed, not on direction. At full reverse you will turn faster than at full forward, because you are moving at half speed. If you cut the throttle to half while moving forward, you will turn just as fast as you do in reverse.
EDIT: clarity

this is how you clear your 6 doesnt matter how slow your mech is unless the light is EXTREMELY good you should be able to shoot him, also remeber the lagshield isnt completely fixed yet so lead your target. also if your a bad shot stay away from PPCs and ballistics. lasers are easy sweep your laser till your reticle goes red, thats where you need to shoot.
