Simple as the title. i feel mech spreads would be more average and fun if we allowed REPAIR bills back (no insane ferro fibrous fee tho) but not REarm. this shoudl push peopel twoard mediums again as it should be.

The only MW games that had RnR are the Mercenaries titles, 2 titles, compared to all the MW games that DIDN'T, just on the PC alone.

Mechwarrior 1 - don't know, didn't play, but IIRC I don't think it has RnR.
Mechwarrior 2 31st century combat - No RnR
Mechwarrior 2: Ghost Bear's Legacy - No RnR
Mechwarrior 3 & Pirate's Moon - No RnR, but salvage.
Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance - no RnR
Mechwarrior 4 Black Knight - no RnR

Sorry, repairs are actually not in line with the typical Mechwarrior experience, stop asking for what amounts to an income tax.

Or we could just have some Mediums which aren't slower than their efficient speeds.
50t with a 300std or 350xl gets more free tonnage than anything else at the given speed.

As many of you said, RnR was a major factor in Mercenary installments of mechwarriors. And yes, the system will return soon™. Just like collisions, they will come back when they are working as intended.

Also, just in case you guys haven't noticed yet, look at the address bar.

Maybe some of the upcoming quirks might make mediums shine a little better, who knows. Even so, 5 out of the 7 mechs I own are mediums (the other 2 or heavies) and while it definitely is quite punishing if you screw up its very rewarding when you do well. But no I don't think reintroducing just repair is the way to go about things.

i think tonnage limits / chassis matchmaking should be the answer to force comp issues.

even if you brought R and R back it would not make enough of a difference to change the meta game all that much. maybe a minor if imperceptible change, but it would not be a solid solution.

Repair and Ream

blinkin - Will repair and rearm ever come back? if not please explain the reasoning behind removing it.
A: No plans to bring back RNR. RNR was removed to create a balanced economy. In the end it created more problems than solved, and was essentially a tax. The system was prone to abuse by farmers and active players. The decision was made to protect the integrity of the game at the cost of removing a feature most people did not use (based on telemetry).

Part of me misses it. How it drew you in, and made you want to stay alive from match to match.

Then again, XL engines, assaults, and all the upgrades are expensive already, why make them rediculous to run after the purchase. XL engines are perfectly balanced by their huge cost and fragility, why make your repair bill hardly covered by the cash gained in a loss?

i say nay.

No, it won't. They've said so themselves.
It was a tax. They don't want it in the game.

Well, I missed that little announcement then, and being that the mercenary titles were my favorites in the series that really ****** me off.

Edit:

Actually, now that I think about it, if they have NO plans on brining RnR back, why the f*** do we still have trial mechs? Not only do they suck, but they make the first few games for the new players suck even harder?

Keep the cadet bonus, and just let them pick any mech they want! Without any cost repair, the trials are a total waste of time and only serve to hurt players experience. At least when there was a repair cost, trial mechs at least had the purpose to give players who are too poor an opportunity to keep playing and earn money.

Without RnR, half of this games base concepts need to be scrapped for the better.

The problem with RnR is that it'll discourage teamwork in random drops - if you have to pay repair costs, no one will want to be the first to poke their head over the ridge, scout, etc. On the other hand, it would nice if there were some encouragement for people to use cheaper mechs, so we'd see more variety in matches. Maybe an XP bonus if the value of your mech is less than the average for that chassis? It would be an interesting challenge for people.

Never mind. While I personaly very much like the RnR concept, the devs statet it will not return.

Iam not happy with that, but a decision has been made and so I will leave this topic as "well bargained and done" ;-)

As long as there is a clean comunication and a sound statement of which decision taken, we should be able to accept the outome.
The only thing I dont like is something like the wobbly 3rd person view thing^^

I thought of an interesting idea from the "mercenaries" thing.

Mercs have to pay R&R, faction players do not. Factions give their mechwarriors free (or subsidized) repair and rearm, but mercs have to foot the bill themselves. This would given incentive to join a faction.

Have to push it again.
Costs are a balancing factor.

When people does AFK or suicide rushes with Trial Mechs and no RnR - heck than they should do this. But for better balancing we need the RNR.

Simple example a Awesome - with 4 LRM 20 and TAG and Artemis can cause a lot of havoc... as long as he has enough ammunition - so while you are hardly able to beat that mech - when he choose the right terrain.

But you will beat that mech because of logistics. You will beat that "bad" design because all the rearm costs will eat away the income - and even more.

A RnR in place will help balancing the game. I knew that there were 75% abuser...but you can simple turn it.
10-20% of RnR has to be payed out of your fund - after you have done this - other costs are paid by your BattleMech Insurance Agency.
