I'm not sure why but I don't see many light or medium mechs lately. Most matches I've drop in were composed of heavy and assault mechs only. Heck, I was in one where, with a dragon, I was not only the lightest (because that happened more than once during the week) but the only heavy mech! Seven assaults on each side?

Now, when I drop with one of my raven or huchback I am either the lightest or there are 4-5 light and a few mediums... and very few heavy or assault. What's going on?

Anyone else seeing this happening or is it just my limited "sampling"? Just doing pick up groups by the way, so it might be a factor.

the improved netcode have seen a good chunk of people migrating back from lights and fast meds to the upper scale of tonage.

As a light mech pilot i like that. They make for good targets as they tend to wander off on their own or forget to support each other.

Brings back memories of when piloting a light took skill.

I'm happy to fill the role, never underestimate what a lance of lights with coordinated pilots can do.

Still piloting lights/meds, still waiting for my jump-jet equipped medium mechs.

Teammates scramble too much to use anything heavier or slower. (Stalker-3F/Catapult is ok with their boosted torso-twist)

Going to use XL 300/325 in my Trebuchets, anything slower isn't an LRM user I want.

Being the only light in a conquest match is good too, if you know your counterpart has been destroyed you can hop from one nod to the other knowing no one can catch up with you.

I guess what I really wonder is if this a player created trend (choosing to play heavy and assault) or if it's the match maker that put mech according to their categories for some reason or another. I play mostly my dragon since it's new a shinny, but when I drop with something lighter for a change, I do see much more other light and med mechs.

If I believed in conspiracy theories I would point out to the medium mech sale for this week-end and that PGI was trying to prevent/influence/control us in some way... ;)

Player created. Why play a 50 tonner when a 65 tonner brings the same speed, and more of everyhing else?

Indeed, the engine limit on the mediums makes them less attractive compared to heavies.

Yea, the net code fixes have made lights less appealing to people who aren't very good pilots and cannot perform in them without a min-max FOTM build like the 3L heresy a month back. Now those people are moving onto the higher tonnages in an attempt to live longer. All this means is when you see a light they should be a fairly competent pilot and therefore a threat. The way it should be.

As for mediums I see them regularly but there is definitely a skew in favor of Heavy and Assault chassis at the moment. Just wait till the 19th when we get the Trebuchet. There will be mediums galore out on the battlefield.

More accurately stated would be "Use of non-ECM mechs in decline"

I use and will continue to use non-ECM mechs exclusively. Anybody that says "then you're being stoopid" proves my stance and the stated point.

No, use of ECM mechs is in fact in decline, which is causing quite a few problems in the pub. It was easier to slum it when so many were running ravens and commandos.

Right now, you kinda hope for a double-D on your side, who's not dumb enough to march into the water, or try the ridge.

I've noticed a big drop in lights. Not sure about Mediums because I still see plenty of Hunchies.

I'm hoping they put ECM on a good variant of the trenchbucket.

The Trebuchet should offer another sidegrade of mobility but you're going to be limited to what you can put into 50-tons of mech.

Actually I've rediscovered my hunchback lately and am having a blast as an LRM boat with tag. There's something so satisfying about taking down something much bigger than you. ;)

Still seeing plenty of streak lights about today, several hunchies and a few cicadas too. If you're pugging with mostly heavies and assaults you aren't going to see many lights or mediums, because the matchmaker won't put a light vs a heavy or assault.

Try playing a medium or a light for a while, then you'.ll always see them.

So far today I think I've seen about 4 Jenners, 5 Commandos, 6-8 Ravens, 2-3 Cicadas, 8 Hunchbacks and 2-3 Centurions. I spent about four hours playing in a Cicada.

It might be the net code improvements. Or it might be that people are finally realizing that real men drive heavies and assaults.
