The professionals I can deal with, it's the amateurs that scare me. You never know what they are going to do.

Sometimes you're going to get teamed with newbies. Maybe you were exactly right and that was the best you could hope for. Maybe a better choice is taking the back seat and babysitting your newbies; if nothing else use them as meat shields, maybe your damage would have gone further?
Again, the fundamental concept is 'don't be a jackass in chat' along with 'play the team you're dealt'.
Elo will help but not completely fix this. Blaming your team only accomplishes one thing - it marks you to everyone on your team and the other as someone not to respect regardless of how much damage they did.

And you'll forget about all those bad players the instant you exit the match and not a single **** was given.

A team is just a group of players. Skill level varies in pug matches but you need to adapt to that. If you're only a 'good player' when you happen to be on a team of good players, the problem is you.
If you have a good team make sure you're part of the plan and not something they have to work around.
If your team doesn't seem to communicate much then you need to keep chat moving and make sure people know there is a plan and what it is.
If your team doesn't seem to follow plans or is all new, pick the largest group of them you can and support them - stop trying to lead if nobody is following. Follow the largest noob cluster and try to keep them alive. Keep lights off their backs and shoot the guy flanking you in the face.
Stop trying to chase kills. Blow both the arms off that Dragon and all the armor off his torso and watch him run around a hill into your team? Let him go. They'll finish him. Turn back towards the atlas heading your way and keep him busy while your noobsquad learns how to kill their prey.
If your team sucks it's because you suck. It's YOUR TEAM. You dropped with them. If they fail you have as much blame to take as the guy who charged off alone. Use that guys suicide as a distraction, take advantage of it. Enemy went down the river and one Atlas on your team did too? Fine, rush the road with as many as you can while they feast on Rambos corpse. The boat is a crappy position when you're flanked.
If your team failed then it did so in part because you failed the team. Accept that, learn from it, move on. Being a jackass in chat only points out to everyone that you are, indeed, a jackass.
Really, and when one takes the DC , posts waypoints, gives ideas and tries to herd the cats, and they STILL insist on running in 7 different directions, usually with comments like "I don't take orders from you bro", Who is at fault?
Sometimes you are the problem, sometimes it's the "team" that has no clue what a team is.

This game has a very steep learning curve. Many noobs like to play their favorite mech from TT, or something that was recommended by a friend. You are going to end up with someone new sooner or later. Deal with it, someone put up with you at first after all.....

That's kind of an extreme opinion.
Let's say I drop with 7 random people. One guy runs into a wall and then complains his screen is entirely grey. One guy goes to feed the baby. One Light rushes the enemy team long, long before we're even halfway there and dies instantly. When the fighting starts, one guy gets confused and starts shooting at everything that moves. The three remaining dudes on my team manage to kill a 6-Flamer Awesome, repeatedly shooting me and each other in the process.
I kill five opponents, each of a higher tonnage than me, before I'm finally taken down.
I "suck", I "failed my team" and I'm "part of the problem", seriously?
I might me exaggerating very slightly (I remember one match where one guy did 35 damage, another did 20, and the five others did 0), but you get my point.
Sometimes you drop with terrible people and no matter how good you are, you can't carry them to victory.

Sorry but people are going to get mad when they tell the team of bads in chat to go to kappa and they all run epsilon, theta, or Oz. People are going to get mad when they spec the atlas on their team and see two medium lasers and one ac5. People are going to get mad when they see an LRM boat jizzing missiles point blank instead of using the backup lasers. People are going to get mad when they see their team mate pointing the arm reticle one way, the torso reticle the other way and firing lasers AROUND their target.

I'm here to play a game and try to have fun. Not to gain the respect of people I don't know, nor care about in the least bit. If my team is playing like ****, I'm going to let them know it. If someone labels me as an *******, well....I am not going to lose any sleep over it. I don't support e-raging in chat but I have no problem telling my team they're playing like trash. People don't know they suck unless you tell them they suck. Biggest problem is that most people don't care. They have no patience for people trying to tell them what not to do. If your in an Atlas, you don't run off alone and leave your whole team with no ECM. If your a boating **** with 6 PPCs you don't run off alone and leave yourself undefended. Yet time after time of telling people nicely to reconsider their play gets met with "I'll do what I want s tfu. So in return they get "Your a trash player g tfo.

The thing is, a good team doesn't even need to have all good players, although it certainly helps. I had my game crash on me so my mech continued to run over the ridge in Snow City. Oddly enough it made it out of bounds with the enemy trying to kill it. My clan mates enaged the enemy team while their back was turned and the 4 or pugs on our team followed them over.

Getting mad /= acting like a jackass. There is no good excuse. If you're acting like a jackass, you're the problem. Some people are going to make poor choices
Not every team is going to follow orders. Good or bad. If nobody is following you, quit trying to lead.
The point is that you're not going to carry everyone to victory regardless of your team, good or bad.
Play the team your dealt. Quit trying to change them. Lead if you can and they will follow. Follow if not. Someone runs off on a suicide rush, take the people who will follow you and flank while they're distracted by Suicidal Sam.
Whatever you do, realize that being a jerk in chat does one and only one thing -
Make you look like a jerk and someone who can pretty much be ignored, regardless of what your score was. If you think people won't remember your name and then just ignore your comments in chat next time they see you, good advice or bad, you're mistaken.
Don't be 'that guy'.

You are correct sir. You do not need a team full of good players. Just a team full of players with common sense. Apparently, that latter is lacking in this community.

Play the team your dealt.....
I just tried that 4 times in a row. To a horrible turnout of 4 loses. 3 of the 4 battles saw our lights swarming an atlas while our base was being captured and they were the only ones fast enough to get back to base. The rest of us heading there didn't even come close to making in back in time. I must suck though. Its all my fault.

Never seen you play. Sometimes people make bad choices - you're going to lose sometimes. Probably half the time, especially after Elo comes in. If you say 'lights, run back to base so we don't lose to cap' and they don't....
Well, is acting like a jackass going to make them say 'wow, I lost the game because I didn't go back' or is it going to make him say 'wow, that guy is a jackass'?
Also not sure 4 games is a brilliant sample size. I would say that playing this way has bumped me up a smidge over 50% win/loss over the last 60 games. I was around 45-50%. I'm slowly but steadily climbing to 50% win/loss at this point. My anecdotal evidence however is no better or worse than anyone elses in terms of what 'works' or doesn't 'work'.
It's not about winning more though. It's about being a better member of the game community and telling other members of the community who hate seeing someone act like a jackass that they're not alone in eyerolling when they see it.
Do what you want. If acting like a jackass in chat is important to someone, if it makes them feel better, well not like a forum post is going to stop them.
There's a big difference between being who a conversation is directed to and being what a conversation is about.

If you lost, you were still outplayed.
Why? Because the other guy chose a better team. Choosing one's teammates is just as important as choosing the right weapons. Hitting launch as solo is akin to having the system chose a random weapon selection for you instead of you customizing your mech yourself.
