Getting more and more tired of it.

Base races seem to happen more often on maps like River Race City or Caustic Race Valley. IMO the problem is that, once a group is on its way, you hardly have a chance of getting back to defend your base in time. Sure, we have great fights on these maps but IMO this depends on luck.

On "open" maps like Forest Colony or even Frozen City you don't have those problems that often. Because - like Forest Colony - you can track the enemy quite early and control your foes with long range weapons. On Frozen City you have a realitic chance to return to your base in time.

Anyone else thinking that zero-damage-matches suck? Anyone else who thinks that some maps should re-designed a bit? Or is it me exaggerating?

Thank you.

I think you are a bit exaggerating though I have come to the conclusion that as long as people run Boom/SplatCats and other cheese build, I will asnwer in kind with cheese victory. And I lost count how many times the op4 did a base rush and then hackle us when we did as well.... Not like either side is innocent.

Now to provide some helpful feedback, here's some very basic ideas for alternative modes:

It's you exagerating a bit. Base races happen but most of the time one team does it and the other team smashes the mechs that ran to cap then proceeds to roll over the rest of the enemy team. (hint: none of the bases are good places to defend from, especialy if you confine yourself to that little red square)

You want to know why they happen on River City? Because bad players think it's a good strategy to move from the best defensible base in the game (the dropship base) into the upper city. Why? I do not know.

It completely confounds me as to any good reason to do it. You already have the high ground, you can see their approach from a kilometer away. You have good cover from which to snipe. You have good escape routes if you get overrun. Not to mention the path most want to take is going to be upper city, where inevitably, you get into a knife fight where long range weapons aren't as effective, so only the brawling mechs can do well. That's OK as long as your team has more brawlers and better brawlers than the other team, but you miss a golden opportunity to soften them up first with your long range. Let's not forget, if you did stay and defend, that the odds of them attempting to close the distance are pretty high. So, the other team must traverse across open terrain (the river) to get to you. Sounds like a shooting gallery to me.

If the other team decides to go lower city, the odds of success for them have increased, but there's still limited amounts of approach and they can be covered and you still have the high ground.

The most stupid tactic on that map is for the dropship team to cross the river into upper city. Why? Because it's the long way to their base. If the other team takes the lower city route, they will reach your undefended base first. I don't understand why this is so hard to comprehend.

So, when my team plays that map and we're on the port side, we always try to run the G line into lower city and spot the other team's actions from the Citadel. If we see them crossing the bridge (most of the time), we punish their dumb A$$'s by capping their base. It may have happened to you. If so, I'm not sorry. At all.

Yawn. Defend your base if you don't want to be capped.

Due to indirect fire (LRM) and scouting light mechs this just won't work. I can't remember the last match when defensive tactis (sitting in your base) worked well.

As I said in my previous post it's very hard to keep balance between fight and defending on some maps. Take River City for an example: It doesn't matter if you take upper or lower city. If you are not that lucky to get into a fight, it's already to late.

"boohoohoo, basecapping sawks, gibs mi TDM pl0x!" I'm getting a little tired of the endless parade of these threads. As stated previously in this thread, PTFO.

In fact, as I've posted before in many a thread, I'd like to see the rewards for basecapping come back, and rewards for base defence be added. You could get bonus c-bills/xp for standing on your cap when an enemy 'mech is there, killing an enemy on your cap, or killing them within a certain distance of your cap. Players would be less likely to caprush if they thought there might be 4-5 enemies gunning for that sweet base defence bonus.

basecapping is an integral and necessary part of the Assault and Conquest game modes, and will never go out of fashion. Don't worry though OP, mindlessly brawling at 200m will never go out of fashion either.

Play with me sometime. I'll show you how to defend River City.

This is entirely untrue. There are many avenues in both Frozen City and River City that provide cover for LRMs as well as pretty well defined choke points to wreck enemies should you decide to defend your base.

Also if you stay in upper city and still get capped it means:

1. Your team has poor situation awareness and simply does not respond immediately.
2. You're too slow.

When in doubt scream, "LIGHTS BACK TO BASE", because, as I understand it, some light pilots are rather oblivious to their role in the scheme of things.

yes you should escape your base when it's overrun because that's what you should do, leave the enemy standing on your base while you retreat. ;)

As apposed to getting obliterated. Anything else in my post you care to criticize? Or is it just the one sentence? Let me guess, I capped your dumb a$$ when you went upper city thinking it was a leet tactical maneuver. Am I right?

Defending the base is very important and will win you the game. I've done it with people a quite a few times and it works wonders.

Actually, that KotH Alt. would result in the two teams charging at each other with no concern for the objective.

Defend you base does not always mean sit on your base. The other night We were on River City, We went the G line and heard "Base is being Captured. So I swung my Atlas around and lead teh charge back to base. No other contact so nothing to complain about. I caught the Spider looking teh opposite way, and lit his ash off! His Hunchie friend started to engage, and my Phract friend lit into him, Blah blah blah by the time we were finished we had left 4 Mechs smoking on our base and then went and rolled the rest!

If Betty calls you answer her and you will not be disappointed.

This is called a "base fail" and is bad. Don't do this.

Take the hate out of your post please. It's beta we are free to discuss things. We do agree that this game should be a smasher after all the years we waited for it.

And watch your testosterone. DMG doesn't susbtitute arguments. You wouldn't have a chance otherwise ;)

This is why I never play Assault anymore. The ONLY time I do is when I forget to change the game mode and I curse my forgetful nature.

Base rushes can be boring and base trading is really dull, but I don't see it too much. In fact they are extremely rare in my experience. It was very common before they nerfed the rewards but not anymore. Now when I see someone going for the base its usually just a light trying to distract our team and split them up.

Capwarrior- River city

Team1: Let's go left
Team1: Hmmm...they must be on the other side of the map

...meanwhile

Team2: I guess they are on the other side of the map. Maybe we should go after them? *1 player steps into the capture zone*
.
.
.
Team1: Holy **** they are capping...everybody get to their base NOW!
Team2: Everyone get on point before they outcap us!

I disagree with that - the City covers you from Snipers and LRM while the Dropship base is a target practice area for the enemy.
