Sure, 99.9% uptime is desired, but the closer you get to 100%, the cost goes through the roof.
Get your TT books out and chill next time.

I'd rather let them run into obscure errors now that the product is still early in open beta. It's entirely our own decision if we want to spend money on a beta product, and I for myself did not regret spending over $150.
Changing prices 'on the fly' just leads to confusion and people feeling ripped off. Chances are, people currently in the buying process will get charged different amounts than they got displayed in the first place, or people getting different prices than others, because their game didn't update them as intended and stuff. So the only way to keep it maintainable (get it? ) is to shut off, change stuff, boot up. After all, we all want the same prices and our payment data secure.

Now where is my free pony??
The post patch/maintenance thing I feel that my game looks different- cant place finger on it but colours and view seems off. Might be the 5 hours of watching you tube and twitch to get my MWO fix.

Not exactly. And I am not quite sure that these two are comparable, as we have a website on the one side and a game with a native game client on the other. I am sure this would be achievable by having a complete checkout process with order review or stuff, but then again you might have to apply it to everything that can be bought with either MC or CB, too. And I personally would not like to be bothered with shopping carts and checkout processes just to be able to buy a Spider chassis.
I am not saying it is perfect as it is at the moment, but it is a solid implementation and it provides fair and equal situations for every player.
And I am quite sure there was a bit more to the outage than just swapping price tags.
