I've seen a lot of interesting comments in-game for the short time I've been a member. =P
I used to start every game with "Happy hunting, everyone! " but after a few sad instances where my game died on me, I kinda stopped doing it.
I remember one time on tourmaline, though, a conversation ensued, and then eventually someone called me a weeaboo. >w<
Brutally honest as I usually am, I quickly responded with "I'm not a weeaboo, I'm a furry." Whoops. XD

When I'm in the same drop as glycerine, we quote Bush/Gavin Rossdale lyrics at each other. After he got cored brutally, he said something to the effect, "Ouch, well that one sure sank into my skin."

And then watch as the other team moves to defend against it.

One I used to use to break the ice on some drops ... based back in the day when irregular disconnecting was more prevalent.

Just after betty finishes:

"has disconnected ..... his toupee" or "has disconnected .... his gas mains" or "has disconnected .... his shoulder" etc

I had just barely gotten my brother to start playing, and MWO is his first foray into Mechdom at all. We would sync drop during the first tourney(somehow he often wound up opposite of me) and I'd type "Teddle is a teamkiller", which 90% of the time meant he was a goner. He did wise up eventually and start piloting a commando. After all, who TKs in a commando!

A few minutes into the match he ends up toe to toe in a brawl running a light and dies.

Once I was PUGing, and someone on the opposing team wrote a rhyme in all caps, then demanded that we write poetry as well. I believe we were a little busy for that.

Another time, someone typed a bit of a plan, and someone on the other team answered "Good plan Hope it doesn't fall into the wrong hands"
The first guy had accidentally posted his message to "All". Doh!

Last night I was playing Conquest with a 3-man team...with guys who hardly ever play with an 8-man team. This guy would come up with a plan, telling light mechs to go to one base and heavies to another.
I was like, "Dude, you wanna type that message for the PUGers?"
He forgot that we had 5 people not on voice chat.

I think my funniest moment was probably playing against Old MechDonald, who was a good sport about it:
I saw the message that "So-and-so killed Old MechDonald", and I couldn't resist typing to All:
"Old MechDonald bought the farm E I E I O"
...To which he lol'ed.

I agree with you mostly..but sometimes it actually is. I've seen a handfull of matches were the kill counter suggested a brutally one sided battle, but the paperdolls of those left standing showed it to be pretty close.

I tend to not open conversations..but if someone comes with a movie/game/novel..whatever reference I recognice I usually reply.

And chat"singing" is also great.

Although I don't recal the details, I had some great fun with Warhammer 40k Orcspeak.... especially when the Jägermech was still new and "more dakka" comments were common.

There was one time on a Conquest Match against a Team mostly of Steiner MechWarrior. We had only 1 Lance Left but we were winning on Caps. They outnumbered us 2:1 that time so they caped the Drills back.

Then suddenly a chat message appeared from the Enemy "Commander", I don't remember 1:1 the chat message but he chated:
"You will lose the match. Surrender now! We will spare you the embarrasement."

I did chat at him:
"To the Enemy MechWarrior Commander. "NUTS!" "

Oh we did win barely on caps after a good fight, thou.
