Congratz on spelling "light" like a 4-year-old.
And lights DO take equal damage. They are just really hard to hit. (also the netcode isn't perfect yet but it is much more stable now) If they took anything less than full damage I wouldn't be able to oneshot their cockpits with ac/20s. (on that note: DON'T STAND STILL)

I had no intention of referring to illumination.

That does make some sense.

This is wrong. Stop spreading misinformation. You are referring to the missile door flaps which does nothing to reduce damage to that location. Closing the missile door flaps simply reduces the damage of the internal components (such as a housed LRM rack). It will still take the same amount of damage regardless to destroy the section. They just merely help the stuff stored inside last a bit longer.

Question answered then: lights take full damage, lasers just do damage over their burn duration instead of front-loading it like ballistics and missiles.

Typing all that out takes too long. Besides OP isn't smart enough to grasp the concept of "internal components" yet.

The thing you are looking for is a pulse laser. It weighs more and generates more heat, but it does more damage and does it faster.
EDIT: except the small pulse laser, don't use that one.

Pulse lasers are the answer to this with much shorter burn time allowing greater damage to locations and less chance of msising the lights with the tail end of your burn.
But the heat, weight, and limited range is a considerable trade off for this benefit - probably too much in my opinion but i do soemtimes go light hunting with pulse as my main thing

No. Lasers are meant to fire over a longer duration. It makes that horrible little thing called 'skill' necessary.
Edit to say: ...yeah. What they said about pulse. But the rest still applies
