I would suggest to you that my piloting is fine because, as you may not realize, you can both fire and move at the same time in this game. The original purpose of this mech was to harass enemy assaults, support friendly 65+ tonners, and drop scouts. As a scout killer you become quite adept at what is called "leading the target" and if you had read the initial post you would realize this problem is relatively new. Also as mentioned previously, a number of changes to gameplay mechanics have more or less weakened this build by splashing Gauss damage, making the Gauss easier to crit and thus making the engine much more susceptible to failure. It's not a sniper mech, nor is it a brawler, its a quick, decent damaging mech made for a more all rounder role.
P.S. I didn't ask for your opinion on my build, I am fully aware of its risks, and considering you have been in on this game for a lot less time than me I'd suggest if you don't have anything constructive to add you keep your feelings to yourself.
Sounds like you know everything, and since you do, you should know "what is happening". Thus making this thread pointless.
And the only good medium is a zombifying one.

To an extent I agree, I was trying to figure out what had changed, and I was helped by the ever friendly community to better understand the direct cause(s). I feel the paradigm is shifting and the role of the medium is changing. Others have mentioned it, see IceSerpent's medium mech thread if you want to criticize my build, this was my particular case. In any event I will just have to continue to be obstinant and explode a lot till I can go even faster!

the game is actually fairly balanced, dont be myopic;
weapons, mechs and the batlefield enviro are always being being refined and there is more content on the way that will alter these factors.
if you build your garage and mechs to whatever might be favored or seen as not sucking due to changes that patch, then you will have a lot pf pain on the next patch...and probably every patch thereafter
build for what YOU can make work well, and have fun with

a wise and well worded response.

Case only stops the explosion from spreading to other areas. So even with case if a explosion is strong enough to take out a torso it will take out the torso and blow up a xl engine if you have a xl. Its not a bad idea to take it if you are running a standard engine though because it will stop the damage spreading to the CT and hitting the engine.
Oh ok, thank you for the clarification!

Because of it's low health, the gauss rifle can be destroyed before the side torso. So shouldn't CASE save you from the explosion?
Or will an exploding gauss rifle always destroy the area that it's mounted to, even with CASE installed?
Case doesn't add any protection to the location its in, it only keeps internal explosion damage from spreading into adjoining locations. So in a non XL mech, a side torso ammo/gauss explosion will likely destroy the side torso but not inflict any damage to the center torso. Without case that ammo explosion would spread until its destructive force is spent.

you can remove that half ton from the leg armor
positives to my build over yours:
1.8kph more speed with speed tweak
2 heat dissipation per second instead of 19.4
negetives:
9 less points of armor on each leg
You decide if it's worth it

One of the things I was going for was max armor. However, along with the next update, I might reconfigure to try to squeeze AMS back on. We'll see though.

plus mine only has 0.02 unused tons compared to 0.07 on yours

Normally, I'd agree. However, lately I have seen a rash of getting legged. Yes, not just in my Raven which is one of the few ways to slow the buggers down, but also in my hunch, cent, phract, and even atlas. Granted 8 points won't make much of a difference, but with this legging trend in full swing, I'm hesitant to make them weaker.
