O DEAR GOD NO!!

OP, go back to the naughty WoW corner and think about what you've done. Come back only when you want to say sorry and you really mean it....

you want to give them a feel then when a ac/20 or guass smacks them the impact should make the mech shutter to the core and even have a gyro over load and fall to the ground

For new players though, I recommend floating damage text. Any time you first damage an enemy and for 3 seconds afterwards all your damage done to that target adds up in to a number. After 3 seconds from the first hit that number starts to flat upwards and a new number will appear if you do additional damage. This will let players get a good feel for how much damage they're doing over time.

If I wanted to play World of Warcraft I'd smash my hand with a hammergo play it.

it doesn't need to be accurate, it needs to be visual. For the same reason you're told how much damage weapons did in battletech, you need to be told how much damage your weapons did in mechwarrior.

natural selection, battletech, league of legends, DotA, team fortress 2, tribes, global agenda, diablo 3, blooodline champions, planetside 2, etc.

If you think WoW is the only game that allows you to see your damage then you're living in the 80's. Except even in the 80's battletech told you how much damage your weapons did. So I guess you're just being a stubborn *******.

You already see damage you did MWO. It is totally different than your suggested arcade floating numbers.

Wow a lot of negative. Guys, go play borderlands 2/1, high-speed FPS with numbers flying everywhere. Was it distracting? NO! I would also like this, in at least a module or something. It would be nice to SHOW PPC doing no damage at point blank, it would be REALLY nice to see that my large laser damage at 800M, it would be beneficial to give new players the feedback they need to know whats going on.

This is NOT a simulation in any sense right now, it is a GAME. Games can have FEATURES if you want to have numbers to show your damage, then turn it on, if you don't want it - turn it off! geeze...

I AM still waiting for melee. In table top you could blow something's arm off pick it up and beat them with it. Literally.

Yeah my post was directed right at you. Anywhos, yeah 90% of the ppl here have played TT and know this, literally. What the OP is talking about is a simple graphic device catering to casual players and if it had the option(ie ON/OFF) to be turned off i see no reason why not. Once again this really would not help anyone in any sorta way except for a gratification when shooting something. Kinda like when ya pop a ballon, bubble, and or zit. Amusing to the masses.

Floating numbers don't fit in with the theme of the game.
Gearbox themselves said that lots of the stuff they did in Borderlands didn't mesh with the game until they completely redid the art style.

I play and like Borderlands, this isn't Borderlands.

It is game that tries to be "mech simulation". Floating numbers direct it farther from that goal.

plenty of "modern" games DON'T have it, and would look corny if they did. this is one of them

edit: honestly, how inept do you have to be to not know how much damage weapons do? and again, you're ignoring how none of those other games involve component specific damage.

more importantly you're ignoring how most of those other games aren't shooters/sims, mainly action rpg's, and the few that are are cartoony.

it's a bad idea, plain and simple. and at the risk of degenerating this thread into personal attacks, anyone who thinks this is a good idea has no taste.

And before this point - the Unreal Tournament "multi-kill", "MONSTER KILL!".

and the more important: C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!

(and my short answer is no. Long answer: nooooooooooooooooooooooooo)

I don't see why this is getting so much hate. I believe more options given to the player that don't impact other player's experiences are a plus. Let it be an option that is set to off as a default and let players decide for themselves if they want it or not. I don't think it should be a priority for the dev team any time soon but I really can't see it being a problem for anyone as long as it can be disabled. let people play the way they want to play. it's not putting numbers on your screen if you don't want it to.

It seems like everybody is tearing this idea apart to maintain the "sim" feel. Well, this option isn't for you. Just leave it off and your sim still feels like a sim. For people who do want this, even temporarily to get a feel for a weapon they don't normally use, I think they should be given that option.

I would love to have an announcer like this. It'll only be coming out of my speakers, so why should you care? I think this is yet another option that I would love to have at some point in the distant future. I would even pay MC for some fun announcers.

I'll say it again. Let people play the way they want to play. As long as it doesn't affect you, why do you care?

EDIT: Just think of it as another form of cockpit item, only you don't even have to see/hear it when you're observing. It's just an extra fun thing for people who want it. If you don't want it, don't buy it or turn it on.

EDIT EDIT: Oh and I already listen to music while I play. Would that ruin the sim feel for you when you're in a game with me? I don't see how this is any different.
