In game chat is needed, mute is a quick solution for people who are less useful.
Also prefer/avoid player buttons would be great.

and while we are making some request some chili fries and a shake of some kind would be nice.

Once we have in game VOIP there will be team killing on a scale previously thought unimaginable.

If your running on Voice coms and there is no ADMIN you need to get a better group. Someone needs to step up and keep it in line.

And who is the admin for Comstar...do they have access to a users details, doubt it. But at least if its in-game, that company has details of a user. And even in a F2P game, where people are purchasing MC with a credit card, its a bit hard to hide.

What's funny about this is that originally the developers swore up and down that there would be no built in voice chat...

Everyone said it would be a huge problem, but they refused... Oh how things change.

Sometimes I have to wonder if developers even play the game they make... Though to be fair, the game has improved significantly lately, and considering that they are implementing a built in VOIP it's another step in the right direction.

judging by all the twitch.tv events, i would say they play the game.

voice chat in game ? lol

Can't wait, I'll be the first player to mute it.

Nothing like hearing mic spammers and mech warrior masters of the universe yelling at everyone like its real life.

I'll take a pass thanks.

Voice would be nice addition (with a mute of course).

It'll allow me to communicate with the pugs and ask tactical questions like where they're going and what they're wearing mech loadout they have.

Heres a list of specifications for a voice chat system that would even compete with what we have now.
  • Push to talk.
  • Mute (Global as well as individual.)
  • Deafen (For when you dont want to listen to any of them.)
  • Accessable outside of a match with a lobby system independant of a group but capable of transfering people into a groups lobby.
  • Ability to enter a groups lobby without being part of the group, so you can find open spots, talk to friends, find out when/if a player is leaving soon.
  • Accessable without the MWO program running, so if one crashes it doesnt take down the other. Mainly so you can quickly report to your team you have crashed/DC/etc.
  • Robust low latency, low resource taking, server technology instead of laggy and abusable P2P systems.

Im sorry I just dont think that using a comm system such as Team Speak or Ventrilo is "cheating". So I disagree that the game MUST have an integrated voice system to make it "fair". The two main comm systems are FREE to download and with TS you can go use the public comstar channel and form up in a premade group if you wanted to. There is even the C3 comm system to use if you really wanted to.

Is it seriously so hard to find a friend to play this with? You really don't need a guild or a clan or anything to have a simple group of people that have the same interest in games. Hell for me it's just me, my brother and 1 irl friend who drop together. We would probably mute the in game chat anyway just so we can hear ourselves think and each other. Hell if you are level headed enough we can take you along if you really cant find anyone at all to play with.

It's easy just go on to the Unofficial TS3 server, or any of the other public MWO VIOP servers and find someone to play with. If you like the people you drop with suggest dropping again some time, if not, go your separate ways. If you don't want to install any 3rd party VOIP programs, chances are you won't use anything they implement in the game though.

We don't need voice comms integrated. TS3 and Vent is out there for those who wish to do that.

What we desperately need to help the pugs co-ordinate is a keystroke system of commands. The battle map is ever so slowly getting there but map pinging, target announcement for focus firing, retreat\advance to cap point...and so on so forth all need to be readily accessible, easily understandable to the average Joe or Jennifer. I

If we had that, a leader would (often) step forth from the Lonewolf's, Mercenary or House Mech's in the drop and there would be some level of co-ordination.

I am slightly bemused why PGI hasn't done more at this stage to help pug players who must represent the majority of players. They most certainly represent the vast majority of new incoming players and having a system in place to assist them in co-ordination, increasing their chance of success against veteran players and helping them learn tactics by execution can only serve to help retain a greater amount of players to MWO.

My assumption is that they expect the ELO matchmaking to somewhat resolve this problem but I fear it will be but another bandaid solution.

Give us the tools to co-ordinate within the game intuitively and customer satisfaction plus retention will increase markedly.

Nice song, makes me want to start playing some fallout. If you where to play that over voice chat it wouldn't be to bad but it might get irritating fast.

No. This game does not need universal integrated voice chat. I will turn the function off as soon as they activate the C3 system.

Why? Because I do not want to listen to 11 people who can scream and yell and play ****** music and be annoying kittenholes just because they have Voice coms.

You want to have coms? We already have a DERTH of options. All of them are better because they take the responsibility of good behavior and tie it into the server admins job.
You should only be able to hear 7 other people doing this as you should not be allowed to hear the enemy's comms.

Just saying.

Yeh cause teamspeak will totally just magically connect you to a voip channel that all the pugs you dropped with also occupy

Oh wait it doesn't? Then shut the **** up.

Everybody can install the C3 Software and use it.
Then he would be talking to his Lance.

Of course it could be increased for the whole Team, but there is something that TS Servers are
good for NO and realy NO voice IP can give you.

You meet new People by searching Dropships on the Servers, you get them to know BEFORE
you drop. Having an All Voice Channel would simply reduce this functionality, and even worsen the experience for new Players.

Why you ask? On a TS server you will get Help for your builds, without them,
you would only get smacked talked when a Backseater is sitting in your Mech and disliking yourbuild.
It would be worse then in the current state, when at least they have to type it.

And do you want to be called "Chicken" "boog boog boog" or have Rage Attacks of other Teammates after they rushed and died and you stand behind in your LRM position and doing more damage then them?

Or when the Team stayed back said: snipers on the other side, then a Kid rushes over the Ridge, get shoot and then you have to open the communication tab and have to mute him, you tab back into your cockpit and the last thing you see was the Dual AC/20 K2 hauling two big glowing Lumbs into your Cockpit..

That will happen when we get an all Team Com, now we got an Lance Premade Com for FREE via C3, nobody uses it, because it is easier to find Lancemates via Teamspeak. But we GOT inbuild Voicecom.

You have only to install C3 and it will let you communicate with your Premade Lance Mates.

It may be better used when we get a Gaming Lobby and Community Warfare, but atm it far inferior to TS3.
And thats the reason why it isn't used. But we got ingame Voice avaible.
On Lance Level only, which is good, because i realy only want to talk with Lancemates. On Teamlevel it would be desastrous.

And TS3 with permanent Voice Com allows to ask someone for help in their build and Tipps outside a combat Situation, how to improve the Mech etc. Which is the correct enviroment for such questions.

TLDR;
We got Lancelevel Voice com, simply install C3 Voice. Teamlevel Voice com would
be bad because of smack talking.
For finding premades TS3 is superior until Lobby and CW arrives.

Without in game comms MWO will be a money loser catering to 2500 people who will gradually lose interest until they shut down the servers.

Maybe 2023 will see the release of something under the BT IP if that happens. MWTactics is just a dumb card game, and MWLL is dead.

If it works, why isn;t it in game already??? so in other words..it isn't working.

It's in game, you are not using it. If you are in a Group and have the option checked it logs you into C3 and puts you into your group channel. The problem is no one forms groups unless they are on a third party tool outside the game. We have no way to know who is playing unless they are in your friends list. How do they get there without knowing who they are? Wel... forums and third party VOIP software. :)

This will change as Community Warfare gets added. It looks like the "Random drops" will be a bit less common and you will form up teams to attack or defend the various planets. Thus the C3 will function correctly at that point. So I think they are not changing it to work for the random drops as it will change eventually.
