Maybe I'm reading that wrong but are you seriously inferring that PGI never delays things at the last second without telling us at all?

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me that you don't know considering they try to do it as quietly as possible.

LOL! Nice try putting my foot in my mouth... I do that just fine by myself thank-you. :D

Yes, they have had delays... that's irrefutable That said, none of their delayed announcements and failure to announce delays in reasonable time can be shown to exhibit positive pattern history.

I'm not "enabling" anyone. Seriously - do you really think PGI reads these posts and thinks "Aaaah see we can pull this off, they are fine with it"?
All I see is mimimi, I want, I need, MY MAP, MY BUGFIXES MY TREBUCHET NAO!

Asking for an explanation is markedly different than asking for immediate release of content.

People are mainly interested in either some advertisement/marketing for a large patch, or an update that content they're anticipating is going to be delayed before the last possible second. The first thing primarily serves to benefit the game overall and the second thing is just good manners. I don't think either is unreasonable to expect.

Yes. How dare I expect them to meet their own projected dates or at least hear an explanation of why they slipped. I am the real monster.

I would certainly love to be wrong! Still, the lack of hype/communication is weird.

Asking for an explanation why they are not posting pictures 3 days in advance? Is this really that important? Is it such a horribly important issue? I am not surprised the word "entitled" has popped up in this thread. What makes it into the patch gets released, it's that simple.

Personally I would also enjoy more communication and accountability, but right now we just are not there yet.

Maybe the lack of preview and info is suppose to get us hyped more. Sometimes a preview gets a lot more negative than positive reviews. PGI is possibly also trying to keep pre-content naysayers from posting negative remarks about something that hasn't even hit the open community yet. I'm hoping though that the variant that looks least appealing gets ECM if they even have a variant that has one. Otherwise the AC5, PPC, SRM2 7k is going to be trash compared to the CN9 or HBK series mechs that can all ready use those weapons better or just as efficiently.

Heads up. Canadian holiday today per some Canadian buddies. So you probably won't hear anything today.

DOUBLE HEADS UP!

The Canadian Holiday you Speak of is called FAMILY DAY, and is only observed in Alberta, Saskatchewan, & Ontario, In Manitoba it is call Louis Riel Day, and in Prince Edward Island it is called Islander Day.

British Columbia (where IGP, see the boilerplate stuff at the bottom of the Screen, which is the Company Piranha is a part of) does not have a Holiday Today. We had our Family Day Holiday last week.

The communication is all over the twitter page, talking about how tomorrow is going to be great and whatnot.

So then someone offical (I am not offical) could have wrote:

"Hello fellow mechwarriors! For all of you who arn't in Canada, today is an official holiday so the PGI staff isn't on board today! Don't worry about the patch, last time I checked everything was running smooth!"

The above took me 30 seconds to write.... I'm glad to know this but... in my view this still does not excuse what is happening...

No It is not, At least not in Vancouver British Columbia. We had a Stat Holiday LAST WEEK, but we do not have a Holiday this week.

Now, Most of the rest of Canada (Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Prince Edward Island), does has a Stat holiday today.

More hype would be cool though :D

Like sending out emails, lasttime they did this RPS put an article on their page about it. I wish i would see more of MWO around the web. More people is always good for a game in developement.

Comments were mostly positive to:

How about using MWOMercs and the forums to communicate this?

Sorry I was just going by what I saw someone else write, and a few others seemed to confirm it. I don't live in Canada so I am not familiar with their holidays. Thanks for the correction!

I guess you don't mind the information blackout since then and then having to go stalk the developers god knows where else.

To all the people in this thread saying "just be patient" or "you're too entitled!" I want you to know you are not doing the game or the devs any favours.

Being an apologist and helping devs feel like it's OK to slip deadlines and do a poor job of communicating with the community won't make this a better or more profitable game. The more they do this, the more they look like some rinky-dink operation that can barely function.

they say delays are a part of development.

but really its just a culture at PGI. and there are plenty of examples to draw from where there are no delays every other patch. and all reveals/faqs/roadmap updates are consistent, timely.

Planetside 2 and League of Legends comes to mind.

but then again those are *successful* F2Ps. MWO isn't exactly cut from the same material. Thats not to say it doesn't have the potential to be. its just that the devs have these habits. and they seem completely okay with the low expectations.

Information blackout?... the whole point of those monthly updates is to give us information monthly... there is no information blackout.. everything said in that developer update applies to the whole month.. we'll get another one at the beginning of March.. it's a scheduled update.. why would you expect more frequent updates when the title of the last one clearly implies it's a monthly thing?

Because there's something called content padding.

There will be two updates per month (actual updates), the issue is that only one of these guarantees real content the other one is just a Hero Mech (reskin), or some cockpit items, etc.

Which means that only two of the four weeks that we play this game per month will have new content; this is bad. Especially when you're trying to constantly keep people talking about your game, like they were doing before.

So what do you do?

You pad out your content.

I'll use February as an example of what they should have done, okay? Okay.

February 5th - Pretty Babby, Tiger Skin, etc.

February 12/13th - Trebuchet (or Alpine) Screenshots

February 19th - Trebuchet, Alpine, etc. implementation.

February 27th - New Mech Concept Art (This should have been done last month.)

Under this schedule, each week has something new. Something to talk about, something to keep players engaged in the upcoming updates of your game.
