Different number of Mech in the weightclasses is most stupid idea of PGI ever.

I on the other hand feel that complete matching of weight classes is kinda boring. Battles are more diverse when teams aren't exact copies of each others. BUT what we need is tonnage matching, for sure. For instance 2 assaults, 2 heavies, 4 meds against 6 heavies and 2 meds would be just fine for me.

Haven't bothered to read most of previous posts.
Just wanted to say Epic job on the new Matchmaking system, It definitely doesn't suck anymore dropping by myself.

It used to be that I either got steamrolled or My team was doing the steam rolling, its much more fun when you the enemy doesn't flat out stomp you and you don't get left out of the match without doing much.

As far as MM with 4-man drops, it hasn't been the best. I keep getting dropped into a group where my lance is the last one alive. I guess its like the dev's have said, give some time to let elo get better profile of players.

I just wish they would merge the 4man and the 8man queue and stop limiting the group size to 4 or 8.

I still think the lobby absence is woeful but seem to be having a decent time with ranked matches. Also - it's really early to complain about this. If you're still getting bad matches after 20 games then complain away.

Are you saying that 8 man groups vs pugs -bug is still present? Haven't heard anyone claim this since the fix.

I've dropped against 8-man teams a few times since the hotfix. One group all had the Marik tag and I found them all on their corp roster later (because they denied being in a group). I suppose it could have been a sync-drop but those seem to fail more often than succeed now.

There was another interesting match where the opposing team had 3 DDC Atlases, a Cataphract and 4 Raven 3Ls....whilst we had 5 mediums (Trebs and Hunchies), 2 heavies and a Commando 2D. Ouch. - Nothing to do with Elo really, just bad luck whilst pugging.

I'm going to remain positive about Elo at this stage and hope that in time it improves, balances out and the weight matching gets tweaked a little. Perhaps selecting an ECM mech should modify a player's Elo too.

Yeah well, if ECM wouldn't be completely broken and ridiculously OP this battle would've been quite fair. The fault is not in the MM, but in ECM balancing.

Really PGI? We fought eight guys with just our premade. To be fair, we took down three of them before dying, but is this really how the game will be from now on? Because this absolutely sucks.

Somehow the MM produces strange setups. It was said, that the MM takes weight into account...well after waiting for less than 20 secs, I dropped into a match with the following result. Hardly balanced, I´d say.

I honestly can't believe that you people thought that ELO would change matchmaking overnight.

Personally, I have 2 questions that I have yet to see answered...

1. Is MM3 still allowing a 2/3/4man premade to show up on one team only? If so, for the love of god why? Why put the effort into a matchmaking system and leave out fixing something that instantly creates unbalance.

2. What does the match score mean in terms of your elo change after a match? Does having a higher score even in a loss mean that your elo goes down less? Does getting the highest score on your winning team mean your ELO goes up more than the others on your team? Right now this score is almost 100% still based upon damage dealt, it's meaningless. I hate to think that this has an effect of how players are being ranked.

Fixed it for you, because it most certainly changed matchmaking overnight.

It's simple.
If 8-man on comms are going against PUGs who aren't, that is unbalanced.
If there is a massive weight class mismatch, that is unbalanced.
If there is a massive difference in team size, that is unbalanced.
If one team has much better ping than the other, that is unbalanced.

These are important factors that the MM needs to take into higher priority ASAP.

A person's ELO score has less bearing on the outcome than the above.

The other problem ELO matchmaking created is it encourages cheese builds. It's the only way to survive now.

Had an example of an awful mismatch last night too, didn't grab a screenshot:

our team:
2 Ravens
1 Commando
1 Spider
1 Atlas
1 Dragon
1 Hunchback

Opposing team:

5 Atlases
2 Awesomes
1 Splatapult

385 tons vs 725 in an Assault match, it ended about like you'd expect. Pretty frustrating.

There are lots of things I like about ELO - but I agree the weight class mismatch can be killer.

I played 3 games in a row last night where my team didn't have a single assault mech on it, whereas the other teams had 2-4.
You can only do so much against a team with 3 atlases when you have nothing even in the same class as it.

We actually won one of the three because we just bypassed their entire force and had our whole team sit on their base. Sufficed to say; it wasn't a great win. :D

Firstly, don't post very often because so far none of the game changes have been overpowering enough (IMO) for me to complain all that much.
The new matchmaking however is a very big game change; one that I appreciate was never going to hit the ground running. So far I have seen more and more players resorting to cheesebuilds to preserve their precious ELO, I have seen 4 players against 8, i have seen more role over victories (both for and against) than before ELO was introduced.
It's fair to say right now ELO is working as intended however, There are some changes i would suggest making ELO rating should take into account a few more precise variables if it is to be permanent:
1 ELO should be Chassis rated as opposed to wieght class rated e.g separate ratings for cicadas and centurions
2 ELO should take into account accured XP on mechs (someone with a elited Cataphract is going to be more effective than someone in a 0XP Dragon)
3 ELO should take into account Assists as muchs as it does kills.

Yes I am complaining now as the past few days have been much less fun than the many months i have been playing this game. I understand that ELO requires time to get on its feet, but many players are having a worse game experience at the moment because of it.

In phase 2 matchmaking, I had good match-ups and bad, but I usually won every other game and both teams always had an even damage dealt spread. Now I have lost every game since the patch, and I finish nearly every game with more damage done by me than the rest of my entire team combined. When I'm the only player on my team to break 100 points of damage, and the lowest damage dealt by a player on the enemy team is 200, something is clearly wrong with phase 3.

This^

Come on PGI, my matches were actually fairer when everything save mech class was random. You guys have completely screwed the pooch on this one.....

IMO they should calculate the ELO you have for the mech you are dropping with and use that as part of the calculation for the your ELO for that drop. When you start out on a new chassis, you're not going to be as good as you are with the old faithfuls you've been playing since closed beta.

I just played a drop where the enemy had 4 assault mechs, we had 0. We won because they could not cap, but they killed all but 2 of the team in a steamroll. The ELO has been mostly fine, but taking tonnage cap/matching off leads to some unbalanced matches. Am I the only one who has ran into this?

More than 1 time....
We were dropping a 4 man with 1 light/ m / h/ a. Running into this issue against 4 assaults vs our 1.
Had to win capping multiple times.

Then to 'balance' or protect against the elo, we ran 4 assaults
Results were even worse
our team:
4 assaults
4 lights
vs
4 assaults
2 heavies
2 mediums

Wildly imbalanced and completely not fun.
I haven't been playing 8 mans for this reason, now 4 man's aren't even fun.

I am having similar experiences. This game is WILDLY unbalanced.

It's..just not fun. .you are giving away extra cbills..and I just don't want to play. Tired of being on losing teams...every single drop.

What you guys forgot to account for is this. Sometimes, ppl play on a team and with voice..sometimes, they are just trying to play pickup games for cash. A lot of that "improved performance" comes with voice coordination. Since you no longer have that, and are playing with ppl you aren't used to now...your effectiveness is reduced somewhat.

Also, just combinations are..crazy.

Don't understand the choice of ELO..it was developed for CHESS..a 2 man game. Not an 8 man team, that has variables like mech weights...and ppl's skill with each chassis is going to vary.

PLEASE ...can we just have simple weight or mech 'class" based matchmaking. Why are you overthinking this? I know you are trying to avoid sync drops...(which I question the wisdom of , because you were keeping all the teams/merc corps tolerably satisfied)...but I think this is just messed up.

I'm not trying to rant this is a sincere plea for help. I love the battletech IP and really want it to make it. But right now...it's not fun again. And..I don't think extra cbills are worth playing for right now.

Just absolutely awful, awful awful.

Seriously...

1) Where is our team ECM? Enemy had 4 ECM mechs and we had none.
2) Where is our light mechs? Enemy had 4 light mechs and we had none.
3) Where is enemy's medium mechs? We had 5 and enemy had none.
4) Where is our one-shot-kill // cheesy builds? Enemy had them (including splatpult).

You call this balance?

I know, we won the battle (by capping), but the taste was horrible. My opinion is: *Imagine here swearing and lots of bad language*

Posted Image

I have been supporting the game with my money because I love it so much. But this is something I don't want to support.

What mech are you running? Just curious about your mech cause you seem to have lots of fun with new MM3 & ELO. I pilot medium mechs (centurion, hunchback and now the trashbucket). Atm. MM3 and ELO are against me and I'm not having fun.

At the moment it feels like Dual/Quad ER PPC, Dual AC20/Gauss and other insta-kill and sniper stuff are popular. With MM2 it was quite rare to counter mediums in the battlefield (excluding trial mechs). And now that trashbucket is there, I'm really happy to see medium mechs (cents and huncies also) in the battle. 150kph light mechs (read: chicken runs) have always been pop, specially with the ECM variants.
