19 people! Those lifeboats must've been hungry... did they crash high up in the mountains or something?

It's a new vessel and they are already cannibalizing it for parts?

Poseidon Mobile Engineering Platform

Quote

Originally created as a fishery vessel (still retaining its Amphibious capacities) on New Olympia in Free Worlds League, the Poseidon is an industrial support air vessel. The vehicles primary function is a mobile crane and engineering rig. The vehicle has been successful in industry since its introduction in 3047.[1]
The Poseidon uses solar panels to charge its large batteries to operate at night time. The ship carries an array of equipments including mining drills, pile drivers, two cranes, and Beagle Active Probe.

Quote

Cannibalization of machine parts, in maintenance of mechanical or electronic systems with interchangeable parts, refers to the practice of removing parts or subsystems necessary for repair from another similar device, rather than from inventory, usually when resources become limited

It means they took parts from lifeboats for use elsewhere, this tells us that things ,parts are rare and upkeep is expensive and in some cases impossible.

'Cannibalized' as used in this statement refers to the stealing of parts from a known good working object for use on something else. Or do I assume everyone knew what it meant but they are having fun with the news?

If you are all having some fun with the announcement I am not sure this is a good way to show appreciation for work being done to give our game some meaning... :D

Just when you think it couldn't possibly get any worse, (your own urine ain't so bad) you are forced to start eating you buddies dead corpses.

I don't know Orion, from what I've seen, I think the devs appreciate some humor.

Wrong kind of cannibalizing. They scrapped the lifeboats to fix the ship, then when they needed lifeboats the lifeboats had already been compromised by taking parts for the ship.

I agree, but I don't think this is the place for it. This newsfeed is work. I am not saying we have to show appreciation for it, but having fun with it only tells those that are putting effort into it that their effort is wasted, or not appreciated.
