correction* its as tall as an awesome. whats up with that?

Nothing... My first thought was "And?"

The "heighth" of a 'mech only has a small part in its weight.

A very tall, but slender man can weigh less than a shorter fatter/stockier one.

What I think PGI needs to do is this...

Collect stats on how often each location gets hit on each mech. Do this for a while so you get a good average result.

Then redistribute the max armor values of each mech based on how often each location gets hit.

...and is legged just as easily.

Once you make mediums the size of assaults, and lights the size of heavies, there will be problems.

Hitbox sizes are important, as the ever-present shadow of Catapult the MWO's God-Emperor is a constant reminder of ;) .

Hope this helps.
Depends if you want to count the Trebuchet's antenna or not ;)

Maybe the cockpit in the trebechut just makes it look so tall then since it is at the top of the mech?

Well there was someone that did some analysis on this and it showed that the Hunchabck despite looking shorter and stockier was in fact not.

Commando and Jenner, 10 tons difference, roughly same size

Jenner and Cicada, 5 tons difference, roughly 30% bigger

Hunchback and Trebuchet, no weight difference, roughly 20% bigger

No idea how MWO mech scale works. I appreciate that certain mechs have a bit more "meat on bones" and others are lankier, but there seem to be dramatic differences in what "5 tons" means in terms of mech looks.

I don't know how the scales work either, but I would imagine the HBK-BRO does a lot of bench pressing while the TBT just plays a lot of basketball in the MWO Rec Center.

Trebuchet's super tall because he's a basketball player, just look at how he jumps.

I named my 5J Air Jordan, too bad the JJ's are useless on it lol.

You crazy, no one expects you to fling your mech at them like a half crazed monkey gundam.

Yes, because height alone determines something's weight.

The M1 Abrams tank is 8ft high and is 67.6 short tons
While the M60 Patton tank is 10.5 feet and weighs 50.7 short tons

How do you explain that?

Is it... density of materials? ;)

Width and length also come into it. The TBT is taller and wider than the Hunchback yet the same weight. It is thinner, but that doesn't make up the difference.

I wonder now why we don't have a cockpit on a foot, or under the armpits. It's a good way to confuse poeple, some salamis are sold that way, so why not a mech. This remind me of that story of my grandfather that did a cartwheel once.

Probably, but also because the M60 is a bit thinner and not as long as the M1

Not saying everything is perfect, just that people who point at height only and say it's wrong is messed up. Also, the Treb has a thinner waist and legs I guess? And perhaps not as barrel chested as the Hunchback.

That's how it used to be before mw3/4 etc just look at the sizes in mech commander

i don't think MW4 has any of the scaling issues this game has.

mediums are not disadvantaged by having same hitbox size as 2 classes heavier mechs.

i'm pretty sure they just give mechs some arbitrary height.
