Background:
Alan was born to a wealthy family on Ludwigshafen. His father and forefathers were high ranking military officers in the Lyran Commonwealth, and Alan’s father hoped that he would someday have a son who would become a military officer in the service of House Steiner. His father’s dreams of having a military officer for a son were dashed a mere seven years before Alan’s birth however when the Federated Commonwealth came into existence. The large number of military rankings awarded to the wealthy in the Lyran Commonwealth became null and void and Alan’s free ticket to becoming an officer was revoked. Thus began Alan’s path to becoming the first talented mechwarrior in his family in several generations.
Alan grew up living the life of a socialite. His father’s wealth had a huge impact on his quality of living and so when Alan joined the Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth he was in for a shock. His military training hit him like a sack of bricks, but he pushed himself and persevered refusing to fail. His goal was no longer to become a military officer, but to become the most talented soldier he could be. He put an incredible amount of effort into his training and succeeded with flying colors. Finally, he made it through boot camp and became a fully fledged mechwarrior for the FedCom army.
A problem arose however when Alan graduated his training, there was no one to fight. He had missed the War of 3039, and had no opportunity to advance in title or rank. As the years dragged on with little to no combat options available Alan became increasingly frustrated. His duties as a mechwarrior were reduced to garrisoning various planets in the Commonwealth and standing guard when dignitaries came through. Sick of being nothing but an honor guard, Alan abandoned the Federated Commonwealth and took his ‘mech with him, a Centurion specifically built for withstanding sieges and defending an asset.
Alan Spent the next five years floating around the periphery looking for a contract, and finally traveled to Solaris VII on the border of the Lyran Commonwealth in search of a job as a mercenary. He sought out the Mercenary Hall in hopes of finding a job, but could only find one opening. The job had been left by a representative of the Triumvirate of Kharkandan asking for what sounded like a defensive force. The commission sounded somewhat nebulous, but Alan had few options left and he was running low on C-Bills. He took the last of his money and used it to buy a ride to the small planet hoping he could begin his journey as a mechwarrior.

If you really think about it, the AC10 weighs what 12 tons? and takes up 7 (eight if you include 1 ton of ammo) compared to a PPC's 7 tons and 3 crits. So a PPC is roughly twice as likely of making it though a battle if you just go by weight/crits. Personally I'm more fond of the OG regular PPC than any of the other versions of it ('cept Clan ERPPC that thing is just beast) As for the AC's I usually use the LB10X AC the most, it seems I like shottys... All that being said, Janitor doesn't want us to have them. And I'm being a good boy and following his wishes. But the more I think about it, I kinda wish I brought that Val instead of the Wolverine.

I'm glad one of my first attempts to mess with a mech is being met with good reviews XD I'll look into the other RP as well. I had the feeling most of them were either not accepting or private.
Always taking Apps... We have a ridiculously high turn over rate. But L&D seems like a good place for potential RPers to test the waters of forum role-play.

so roll something with a 5/8 movement profile and stick next to my charger. 90 meters may be your minimum range, but that is my max range, and 5 slasers hurt more than a normal ppc anyways.

I let a few things slip rules wise, such as dal10's assault mech, which only got in cause the best thing it has going for it is the huge engine, as well as the Corrosive DHS's Thom signed up with, and a TAG laser here and there. But I mostly let that through for flavor, because if there was absolutely no LosTech, it'd almost not be as realistic, IMHO, cause there'd be that one guy with X, Y or Z that is irreplaceable.
Now, as for signing up, I'd personally prefer another light mech, cause we have four 55 ton mediums, two lights (35 tons and 25 tons) and one 80 tonner assault. However if you have your heart set on the Centurion, I won't stop you (TBH, the Centurion is my favorite in MWO). However I'm not willing to allow major LosTech weaponry such as PPCs, Pulse Lasers and the like. In the next part, I'll loosen the rules up.
based on the last sentence, we may get to use better stuff later, just because i got bored, i made an ideal (at least for me) charger.

for the record i did a megamek game (with fog of war enabled, aka you don't know where stuff is. i also did a city map, just because in the open against those odds the chargers would be screwed) with 2 of these vs a mixed assault lance (1 atlas, 1 cyclops, 1 victor, and a stalker).
end result, 1 charger destroyed, one missing its pulse arm, vs 4 dead assault mechs (TSM hatchets on a 80 tonner are fun, especially once you get behind things)

Background:
James Campbell, (Jim or Jimmy to his friends) is a Northwind native and former Highlander who served with distinction under Stirling’s Fusiliers during the Clan invasion.
An excellent shot and a whiz with a gauss rifle, Jim became notorious in his regiment for a cocksure and bragging attitude over the coms when it came to his shooting, earning him the call-sign, “Crow”.
Piloting his beloved and handed down Highlander 732 he eventually earned command of his assault lance. Fighting a defensive action on a now clan conquered clan world his company was gutted by a veteran clan binary. Assuming command of a rag-tag group of mixed Mechs and militia forces, led by his assault lance, Jim held a rear guard for evacuating Highlander forces and civilian craft. In the final stages of the evacuation, believing a strong counterattack would give the honour bound clanners pause to engage the fleeing support and civilian vehicles, he took his lance toe to toe with a clan star of lighter Mechs, foolishly leaving the remaining IS forces to fend for themselves.
The highly skilled medium and light omni-mech pilots ran rings around his lance, tying them up while the rest of the binary hunted down the remaining militia defenders. Pulling the star back within range of their dropship’s guns, his lance took down the entire star, paying with everyone’s lives but Jim’s.
Hailed a hero in his battalion for holding the Clans back while civilians escaped, and not knowing Jim had charged the clan star, his commanders sought to give him command of his own company.
Personally disgraced and ashamed of his own brash actions and limited understanding of how to combat light Mechs, Jim refused the command and cut ties with the Highlanders, not seeing himself fit to command.
As a means to atone for his actions and to prevent a repeat of his last formal action, he sold his heavily damaged Highlander back to his unit and sought about finding the best light Mech to learn light unit tactics in. He found what he believed, on the face of it, to be the perfect solution. A beat up, Raven 3L, captured by Davion forces during border skirmishes with the Capellans. Currently a freelance Merc, going by his self-proclaimed call-sign of “Shepherd” he is now floating around the periphery, taking small time contracts to essentially teach himself how to scout and protect his lancemates. He has no aspirations for wealth, merely hoping to earn enough to fix the poorly maintained electronics systems of his Mech, become an accomplished scout and re-join his Highlander kin.
A tower of a man, he is broad shouldered and barrel chested, better suited to a bar brawl than a Mech’s cockpit. He wears combat fatigues almost all the time, sporting a Campbell tartan sash and Balmoral . He rarely appears socially in civvies.
Formerly merry and confident to the point of arrogance, he is now quiet, sullen and resistant to personal questions, loathe to give orders or assume any position of command. For the most part he keeps to himself, however he will try to relate and discuss tactics with any scout pilots he meets, albeit awkwardly.
When drunk, (which happens more so than usual these days), elements of his original boisterous personality shine through. He may even occasionally smile.

Current Mech status:
Jim’s Raven was in a reasonable sate of repair when he purchased it… over a year ago.
The ECM had already been damaged during its capture by Davion forces. Subsequent hits to the torso over the past year have now rendered it entirely inoperable. Jim currently cant afford to have a specialist tech (let alone find one out in the periphery) to take a look at it on top of his ordinary maintenance costs.
The Beagle Active Probe works however, if not temperamentally. As it is tied tightly into the Mech’s sensor arrays it was harder to damage. It does however, only give patchy coverage and is unreliable. Jim normally runs without the active sensor component to hone his basic spotting and scouting skills anyway and simply uses the attached sensor memory unit to record deployments to play them back to learn from and scrutinise his own performance.
(I am aware that the raven, even without the BAP and ECM still sports an impressive sensor suite. If this makes the mech too unsuitable for this reason, I can always have it also in various states of disrepair.)
Jim doesn’t like NARC beacons. They’re short range, temperamental and a fat lot of good for a lone mech. Not to mention extremely expensive to keep loaded.
As such, he’s made use of the spare ammo bin in the right torso to feed an additional SRM 6. He sold the NARC and used the profits to source another Hellespont Harpoon-6 for easy integration into the Mech’s control systems.
The raven had Ferro Fibrous armour when Jim purchased it, however, due to combat damage and running costs, Jim has replaced it with standard armour and used the remaining half-tonne after his field refit for extra protection.
(I tweaked the loadout of the Mech with Sparks, who has a copy of the Mech’s full stats. Mine are the abbreviated version.)
