The upcoming BattleMech for this month is the Quickdraw. What a surprise or shock! A heavy mech (60 tons) with same speed ranges as the Dragon mech, and can jump.

Description

The Quickdraw was originally built in 2779 as a competitor to the Rifleman BattleMech. In this respect, the model was unsuccessful. However, because of its excellent mobility, with a ground speed of 86.4 km/h and its jumping distance of one hundred and fifty meters, as well as its mostly short range weapons assortment, the Quickdraw is a powerful close combat 'Mech. It has one major flaw though: its light armor protection. With armor on par with most mid-grade medium 'Mechs, the Quickdraw is barely capable of standing up to heavier 'Mechs.

Armament

The only long-range weapon carried onboard the Quickdraw is a Delta Dart LRM-10 launcher, giving the 'Mech some long range damage capabilities. For close range combat, the Quickdrawcarries four Omicron 4000 Medium Lasers, two of which are rear-mounted and the other two (in the arms) giving it respectable close range firepower. Additionally, to capitalize on any weak points in an enemy's armor, the Quickdraw carries a Hovertec Quad SRM-4 launcher.

Variants
  • QKD-4G - 60 tons, 300 STD engine, with Jump Jets, 1 x LRM-10, 1 x SRM-4, 4 x Medium Lasers
  • QKD-4H - In an attempt to bring more direct firepower to the 'Mech, the 4H moves the SRM-4 launcher into the rear arc and moves the two rear-facing Medium Lasers into forward firing mounts. Otherwise, the 4H is identical to the 4G model.
  • QKD-5A - The 5A makes the Quickdraw a more effective close combat 'Mech. The LRM-10 launcher has been removed and in its place two more forward-firing Medium Lasers have been added, as well as extra heat sinks to help compensate for the increased heat load.
  • QKD-5K - The 5K Quickdraw is upgraded using Star League technology. The 'Mech carries the same weaponry as the 5A model. The heat sinks have been upgraded to double heat sinksand the armor carried is Ferro-Fibrous armor, giving the 5K superior armor protection to the 5A model, with no added weight.

Perhaps the art department had a hangover? Mech without the art first ... suspicious.

It's a metaphor. They quickdrew this on us, and it killed us before we ever saw it. ;)

Jokes on you guys, that really IS the new artwork lol. How awesome would that be?

I'm torn... If the hit boxes are not horrible, I might like it, But why was a mech with no art dropped on us as a surprise?

Im excited about this because it looks like it can go fast enough, jump, and have the firepower to make it comparable to the dragon as a skirmisher. BUT WITHOUT THE ******** GIANT CT!

QQ I hate my dragon cause it dies faster than any other mech I own in any situation.

I am fascinated.

QD was one of my favorite heavy mechs, just for having rear facing lasers so you could jump in the middle of a melee and target everyone. Or fire on the way in, run pass them and then light them up in their rear torso.

But i highly doubt it will have rear facing lasers.

Yep, they'll swap the full weapons complement forwards on these things.

What's not noted so much: Quickdraws are notoriously light on armor stock- we're talking Jagermech levels of protection, and with all their guns forward, are also painfully low on heat sinks. On the other hand- jump capable and it's weapons are well spread around the 'Mech, making it only stop shooting if you core the thing. Not capable of boating lots of long-range missiles, but certainly up to a pair or so of Streak launchers (or small/single large LRM launchers with Artemis, since one launcher is in the CT). One notable quirk is that the Quickdraw's arms have an exceptionally large field of fire- and exposed weak spots in the ankles due to a non-standard actuator arrangement.

FD has his work cut out for him on this one artwise...

Questions that spring to mind for PGI.

1. What happened to the Orion?
2. Where is the quickdraw announcement?

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???

If you didn't want a 75 tonner to contribute to the heavy tonned meta, then screw you. I wanted an Orion.

On the other hand, all you did was add another mech that does two things:

1) Potentially REPLACE the Dragon, like the Victor replacing the Awesome.

2) Add another freaking jumping mech in the very heavy jump sniping meta.

Is there nothing that PGI does that doesn't cause a double whammy on itself?

1) Moved to 3-4 months back. Why? For reasons unknown.

2) In the Announcements section, under June Creative Director Update.

another outcome of this announcement is that this indicates the mysterious 6 unannounced but fully complete mechs they had alluded to in the past were NOT clan mechs as some had hoped!!

probably because of its weird cylindrical arms, would be hard to horizontal target with. they prolly working on new code to accommodate that
